新しい目

本日、吉報届く。私たちの研究室で発見した微生物から新しい目(もく;order)を提案する論文が受理されました。

 

生物の分類階層は、上位からドメイン(domain)、界(かい;kingdom)、門(もん;phylum/division)、綱(こう;class)、目(もく;order)、科(か;family)、属(ぞく;genus)、そして種(しゅ;species)。

 

今回の論文は、新しい目を提案するだけでなく、完全長ゲノム配列情報から得られた結果も含んでいます。不断の努力の甲斐あって、新しい研究の芽が出ました。

花の香り、そして、流氷への旅

五月の札幌は花の季節だった。まず梅が咲き、桜が咲く。札幌ではこの二つの花の間にほとんどずれがない。心持ち梅が早いというだけで実際には二つの花が同時に咲く。

4月30日、『流氷への旅』の作者逝く。本棚の奥深くに眠っていた『流氷への旅』のページをめくる。

 

美砂(みさご)のアパートから北大の低温科学研究所へ通う道にも、至る所にリラの花があふれている。美砂はこのリラの花の香りが気に入っている。パステルカラーの淡い花とともに、その香りも、どこか秘めやかで慎み深い。美砂はその花の並木の横を通って研究所に入る。
