ちょうど1年ぶりに中川達功さん(OB、現日本大学生物資源学部准教授)とともに野外調査に出かけました。現役大学院生Aさんも参加。

昨年、アマモ場での堆積物採取は往生いたしました。その反省から、今回は特殊な細工を施し、再挑戦。



野外調査のノウハウや研究のコツなど、OBから現役大学院生へ伝授。Aさんにとってはとても良い機会になったかと思います。



さてさて、新たな発見が待っているかもしれません。



新規化学無機独立栄養細菌の発見と新しい「目」の提案:Sulfurifustis variabilis

またまた、小島さんが新属の硫黄酸化細菌を発見いたしました。その名は、Sulfurifustis variabilis。無機の硫黄化合物の酸化で化学無機独立栄養により増殖するガンマプロテオバクテリア綱の新しい属のバクテリアです。

このバクテリアは山梨県のみずがき湖から分離され、培養温度により細胞形態が著しく変化する特徴を有しています。

系統学的な解析結果から、既存のAcidiferrobacter thiooxyydansと合わせて、新しい「目」Acidiferrobacteralesを提案することといたしました。

大学院基礎実習:土壌呼吸の測定

土壌呼吸は、陸上生態系の物質循環を捉えるうえで重要な機能です。光合成で生産された有機物の一部は土壌へと移行し、土壌微生物による分解を受けます。大まかに言えば、土壌呼吸は微生物の有機物分解活性を示す指標の一つでもあります。

その測定法にはいろいろとあり、大学院基礎実習で用いる方法は経済的で簡便な密閉型チャンバー法です。

実習場所は低温科学研究所敷地内。まずは、チャンバーのスタンドを設置。 





次に、チャンバーをスタンドのうえに被せ、チャンバー内の二酸化炭素濃度の経時的変化を測定。空気中の二酸化炭素濃度は赤外線センサーで測定いたします。



さあ、本日の土壌呼吸速度はいかに?

曇りのち雨、そして曇り。蝦夷梅雨でしょうか。

本日午後、Aさんの誕生会です。おめでとうございます。

低温科学研究所最寄りのお店で購入したケーキ各種。コロンビアコーヒー、ダージリンFOPセカンドフラッシュ、そしてアールグレイを用意。





途中で、B先生も加わり、おまけに札幌農学校バタークッキーの差し入れも!B先生、ありがとうございました。
