In the Toddler class we don`t let a little bit of wet weather stop us from enjoying the fresh air outside. Research has shown that letting children connect with the natural environment in all types of weather is good for their health and for their emotional development.
Today`s muddy playground offered the children many opportunities to explore how the sand reacts differently when it is so wet. Digging and pouring the wet sand is good for a child`s motor development, helping their hands become stronger and more accurate in movement. We could see the child focus on the interesting work they were doing as each child followed their own ideas. Most of the children had their rain boots on so they felt free to stomp in the big puddles, discovering what happens when you do this.
Dig, pour, stomp, laugh and repeat! I want to be a child again to experience such freedom!
