Bun Phalla さんは、６７歳、プレアビヒア出身。
ラタナキリでインタビューした女性は、すべて移住してきた人たち。パラさんは、ロンノル時代に兵士と結婚したんだけれど、夫は戦争に行ったまま帰ってこなかった。クメールルージュが来る前、戦争から逃れるために森の中を走り回っていて、森の中で母親二手伝ってもらって男子を出産したのだけれど、すぐに死んでしまった。
強制結婚は珍しくないけれど、彼女の場合は、広い会議場に男女が集められて、クメールルージュが男性に対して「妻にしたい女性を選べ」と命令して結婚式が行われたというのが珍しい。
I was forced to married with a man who lived in another village. I had never known him before the marriage in my entire life. I felt so bad and I really did not want to marry him. The ceremony was held inside the house with a roof, a kind of a KR meeting place. There were no music, my parents was not there with me. People there were only those people who were going to marry, so there were hundreds of men and women who had never seen or known each other before. Suddenly, Pol Pot asked those men in the room to choose any woman who they want to have as a partner. One man pointed at me, and Pol Pot instructed us to make an oath for Angka that we are marrying. It was in 1976. We then became a couple from that day on. At that time, hundreds of couples had to marry, and ate together. No one could refuse the marriage order. If anyone refused, they would be killed.
強制結婚の結果、クメールルージュ時代に生まれた子供は、出産を手伝ってくれた助産婦によってクンティアと名付けられた。
1994年にラタナキリに移り住んだ彼女、「強制結婚させられた場所とか、住んでいた村には二度と戻りたくない。あまりにもつらい思い出が多いから」
クメールルージュ時代に母になるのも現代に母になるのも、基本的には同じだと語った彼女。「違うのは、当時は食べ物がなかったこと」。若い女性たちには、「子ができたら、蚊にかまれないように子を守らないといけない」。日本で、庭で遊んでて蚊に噛まれまくっている我が子を見て、ちょっと反省するのである・・・
