(2010 English Speech Contest: DPRT)

How often do you dream? I dream every night. Recently I had a strange dream about a country where all the citizens are Toastmasters. Let me highlight my dream last night.

It was Summer in 1998 when I entered into this country of Toastmasters. I stayed there for two years to work for an International Organization called TEDO, Toastmaster Energy Development Organization, as a director for constructing a new power plant.

I lived in a small town near beach called Reikai(例海←例会) located about 400kms east from the capital city called Kanpai (菅杯←菅総理に乾杯) and it took 10 hours to get there by airplane and bus whose services were limited to only on Thursdays biweekly. There were about 600 residents living in this town and most of them could speak both Japanese and English.

One day before Christmas there was a regular town meeting.
A table topics master, Sachi(コンテストの司会者), asked a question to all the participants “Can Santa Clause come to our town?”

An old Diplomat, Takki (私), quickly stood up and answered “No, he won't. Because our government doesn’t welcome visitors who are not toastmasters.”
All the citizen in the country were obliged to wear the badge named “T pin’ to show their absolute royalty to the dear leader of the Toastmasters.

Then a lady runner, Ackie(元首相夫人の愛称), agreed to Takki’s opinion and added another reason “Because it is too dark for Santa to find the way to our town.”
Actually due to severe shortage of electricity, the citizens were forced to limit its usage after 9 o’clock at night until the next morning.

Lastly, a respectful reverend , ToMas (TOastMASter), nodded and said “Because Santa’s mentor is on Christmas leave there is nobody who can lead him to the destination.”
No visitors from outside the country were allowed to travel alone and freely inside the territory.

Hearing the wonderful speeches, all the audience gave a big applause to these three competent communicators and voted Takki as the best speaker of the day.

This is the true story in my dream about what happened in the Democratic Peoples’ Republic of Toastmasters.
