Beloved Cars 04 Apr. 2013 at Chiyoda TMC

Mr. Takki Runner, you are transferred to the Embassy of Japan in Korea as an Assistant Attache, first of April 1975, Kiichi Miyazawa, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

This is the assignment I received this assignment 38 years ago and I promised myself to do my best as one of the Japanese diplomats.

The first thing I did was to select a fresh and prestigious Japanese vehicle for my private use and to
show our pride in technology to the people of Korea.

Guess which car I chose.

Was it Toyota MarkⅡ?

No, I am not a Christian and do not want to follow Apostle Mark, one of the 12 men
that Jesus Christ chose to tell about his teachings.

Then was it Nissan Laurel?

No, I prefer beer to Japanese Sake represented by the “gekkeikan”

However I loved Toyota cars, so I had chosen the Toyota Crown in black for the first car I drove
abroad.
And at that time this car was so popular among Korean businessmen that it was
nicknamed “moving VIP lounge”.

One day in 1977, the Japanese Society in Seoul held an athletic meeting in the suburb of the city.
I drove my car and joined in the event with my colleague.
After it finished when we were about to go back home, we found a magazine reporter having difficulty
in taking taxi.

So I volunteered to pick her up and take her home. She accepted it and said looking at my car “It is very kind of you to give me a ride by such a wonderful car. Are you a chauffeur?”.
I quickly answered “Well, actually I own this car”.
She surprised and responded “Really? Then can I expect you to invite me to a dinner at a luxurious
hotel next time? You look rather rich than handsome.”

The black Toyota car changed my life at this moment and had made me happy for 28 years afterward
although she was a devout Christian and did not drink alcohol.

It has passed 7 years since my daughter and I saw her off going to heaven by a larger and more
Luxurious BLACK car in NZ.

And yesterday a blue Honda car arrived at my home.
I wish this car would also bring happiness to this retired old diplomat and to his beautiful daughter.
