I attended a brainstorming and very innovative session this evening. We discussed world economy and how we should think about innovation to make changes in the global society. It was very interesting and exciting. I met four business persons. They are CEOs of venture companies, executives from global companies or major companies in Japan such as Panasonic or Toyota. I requested to pick up some medical topics next time for this kind of sessions.
What I learned from this session was a view to classify innovation by a famous business school professor.
Innovations are classified as "empowering, or sustaining, or efficiency."
Empowering: e.g., Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc..
Sustaining: e.g., Microsoft,
Efficiency: e.g., Toyota, Sony, Panasonic, etc...
Efficiency innovation cannot increase employment, in their opinion.
It was shocking for me to know this view.
Overall, the impression I got from this session was that there were so many persons who are passionate to improve the society and change Japan.
I was very convinced that I should offer or hold more clinical sessions in English from now on!
