TO SPARKLE

　今日のGetUpEnglishは、to sparkleの使い方を学習しよう。

　to sparkleは、「（宝石・水面などが）輝く、きらめく」の意味で使われる。

○Practical Example

　"The diamond sparkled on Suzanne’ finger."

　"Kamiji bought it for her. He shelled out a lot of money for it." 　

　「ダイヤモンドがスザンヌの指に輝いていた」　

　「上地が買ってあげたんだ。そのために大枚をはたいたんだ」　

　to shell outは、「必要なだけの金を払う［渡す］」。

●Extra Point

　「（喜びなどに）輝く、（才気などで）生きいきとする」という意味でも使われる。

◎Extra Example 　

　"Whenever Aishima-san talks about her dogs, her eyes sparkle with joy."

　"She makes so much of her dogs Takechiyo and Kaoru." 　

　「相島さんはおうちのワンちゃんたちのことを話す時は、喜びできらきら目が輝いている」　

　「竹千代くんとかおるちゃんをほんとうにかわいがっているからね」

　to make much of something [someone]で、「……を（過度に）ちやほやする、かわいがる、ほめそやす、もてそやす」
