〇Practical Example
To throw a few wild vegetables onto a lacquered dinner tray as a symbol of spring is practically a cliché of the Japanese country inn; to serve them without fail from spring through fall is evidence of immense foraging skill. To do so, the chef-gatherer must know how to follow varieties both common and obscure across the seasons and also where to find them and how they might be affected by variations in temperature or rainfall.
漆塗りの器に盛られた山菜料理は春の象徴で、特に地方の旅館では定番の一品となる。春から秋まで山菜料理をずっと出すのであれば、鮮度の高い山菜を採取できる知識と技術を十二分に備えていなければならない。知られたものもあまり知られていないものも、四季の山菜は、ほぼ見ればわかるようにしておかなければならない。どこに生えて、気温や降雨によって発育はどう変わるか、心得ておく必要もある。
このthrowは「コンパスローズ」にある通り、「〈物〉を(…に)さっとのせる (on, around)」ということ。

smell と odor はにおいを表わす最も一般的な語だが, odor は smell よりも格式ばった語で, いやなにおいに用いることが多い.
scent 鋭い嗅覚でなくてはかぎつけられないほのかな香り. 動物が残すにおいにも用いる.
perfume 文語的な語で, 香水･花などのよい香りをいう.
fragrance よい香りのみに用い, perfume ほど強くない, 繊細な感じの香り.

turn(s) (one's) head: （女性･美貌などが）人を恋のとりこにする。「部屋に入ってきたとたんに恋の虜にする美しく、壮麗な女性」であるが、訳出したくらいでよい。
command: 〈同情･尊敬の念〉を起こさせる
authenticity: 真正[本物]であること。Your authenticity is charming.は訳出したくらいの日本語にすればよい。
動詞flunkは「（試験などに）失敗する、落第する」。

「ドーピング検査で失格になると、その砲丸投げの選手は筋肉増強剤を使用したことを否定し、誰かが自分の尿に細工をしたに違いないと主張した」
tamper withで「～を勝手にいじる[変更する]」。
take offはいろんな意味で使われるが、特にイギリス英語で「～の真似をする、模倣する」の意味で使われることがあるので、注意しよう。

「剣の7」は卑劣な行動を表す。陰に隠れて何かよからぬことをしようとしている？ あるいは逆に、邪な人物にまんまと貶められてしまうかも。直感を大事にしよう。とにかく用心すること。
sneaky: こそこそする, 卑劣な
get away with: (よくないこと)を(罰せられずに)うまくやる, まんまと…の罰を逃れる
pull [draw] the wool over one's eyes: 人の目をくらます、だます.
次のように使われる。
