聖父と聖子と聖霊との御名によりて、アーメン。
愛する兄弟の皆さん、
愛する兄弟の皆さん、
ぜひ「善き出来事のマリア様」についての話をするのを許して下さい。
善き出来事のマリア様は、20世紀の私たちの為に、特別にいけにえの霊魂を求めました。そしてその選ばれた清い霊魂が、マザー・マリアナ・デ・ヘスス・トレス (Mother Mariana de Jesús Torres y Berriochoa)という方でした。非常に寛大で、非常に愛された霊魂でした。そしてこの彼女の、地獄をも体験するような、そして病と、苦しみと、いけにえと、祈りの、礼拝の人生を通して、20世紀の私たちの為に、特別の恵みを準備して下さいました。
エクアドルという国は、私たちにもほとんど知られていない国ですけれども、多くの聖なる寛大な、イエズス様の愛に燃える霊魂たちをたくさん生み出した国だ、という事を、特に20世紀の為に、私たちの為に準備されていた国だ、という事をひしひしと私は体験しました。
そこでぜひ皆さんに、「そのような霊魂がいた」という事、そして「私たちの為に、今、この現代の私たちの霊魂が救われる為に、特別な天主の御計らいがあった」という事をよくご存知になって下さい。
⑴今日、そのマザー・マリアナが受けたメッセージというものを、少しだけご紹介させて下さい。
⑵そして、エクアドルには他にもどのような事があったのか、という事を簡単に話させて下さい。
⑶最後に、では私たちは今、そのような霊魂たちからの特別の犠牲と、特別の苦しみの為に、私たちが今何を受けたのか、そして私たちは何をすべきなのか、という事を黙想致しましょう。
⑴マザー・マリアナ・デ・ヘスス・トレスという修道女は、修道院長となって、また幼少の頃から特別に、マリア様からのメッセージなどを受けました。今回私のぜひ紹介させて頂きたいと思うのは、この人生の終わりに、亡くなる1年くらい前の1634年の3月に受けたメッセージです。
マザー・マリアナは、いつも朝早く早朝から、例えば朝の3時とかから起きて、御聖体礼拝、黙想などをしていました。
三位一体の神秘。聖父・聖子・聖霊、三位一体が区別されていて、しかし唯一の天主である事。
あるいは、この三位一体の聖子が、三位一体の第二のペルソナ聖子が、御聖体の内に真に在す事。
あるいは、その御聖体の内に真に在す全能永遠の天主が、私たちをどれほど愛されているか。
また、三位一体が、マリア様の事をどれほど愛されているか。罪の汚れ無く、聖アンナの胎内に宿された事。
あるいは、イエズス・キリスト共に、マリア様が人類の罪の償いの為の共償者となった事。
等よく黙想されていました。そしてその神秘の中に深く入っていました。
すると、天の元后マリア様が、マザー・マリアナに御現れになります。特にマリア様にマザー・マリアナは、「善き死を遂げる事ができるように」とお願いしていました。
すると、ちょうどこの祭壇のように、綺麗に飾られた御聖堂が、この教会のランプで照らされていたランプが、その御聖堂のランプが、突然消えてしまいます。そして真っ暗になります。何とかローソクの火を点けようとするのですけれども、マザー・マリアナの体は動きません。
すると突然、超自然の光が祭壇に輝いて、そして昼間のように明るくなります。マリア様が御現れになって、そしてお言葉をこう下さいます。
「私の御心の愛された娘よ。私は、善き出来事のマリア、あなたの母、あなたの守護者です、そして私の御子イエズスを私の左手に、そして右の手に司祭杖を持ち、私はあなたに、善い知らせを告げる為にやって来ました。その善い知らせとは、10ヶ月と数日後、あなたはこの世の地上の光に目を閉じ、永遠の光を見る為に目を開く、その日がやって来るるでしょう。」
「あぁ、死すべき全ての人々が、もしも『天国がどのようなものである』という事を知っていたなら！もしも『天主を所有する』という事の幸せがどれほど素晴らしいものかを知っていたなら！この人生をどれほど変わって生きていた事でしょうか！そして永遠を得る為に、天主を得る為に、どのような犠牲も省略したりする事はなかったでしょう！」
「今、祭壇の前に燃えている至聖所のランプが消えたのには、いつくかの意味があります。」
「第一の意味は、19世紀の終わりと20世紀のほとんどには、この時期になると、多くの異端がすでに自由共和国となったこの地に広がり、そしてそこを支配していた信仰の貴重な光が消え失せるでしょう。これは、道徳が全く腐敗した為です。この時には、肉体的にも、精神的にも、公にも、個人的な生活においても、多くの困難があるでしょう。」
「教会とこの地上の国を、異端の奴隷状態から解放する為に、私の愛する御子の特別な憐みの愛によって復興のために選ばれた霊魂があります。この霊魂は、復興させる為に、非常に強い意志と、持続心と、勇気と、天主に対する信頼を持たなければならないでしょう。そして義人のこの信仰と、天主に対する信頼を試す為に、見かけ上全ては失われて、全ては麻痺してしまうように思われる時がやって来るでしょう。しかしその時にこそ、完全な復興の、幸せな始まりの時です。」
「ランプが消えた第2の意味は、この私の愛する共同体が数においても非常に少なくなり、言う事のできない苦々しい、苦しみの海の中に投げ込まれるであるだろうからです。間違った、偽りの愛徳の名前によって、不正義が行なわれるでしょう。私のこの閉ざされた庭においてでさえ、忠実な娘たちにおいてでさえ、私の隠された霊魂たちにおいてでさえ、霊魂たちを座礁させるでしょう。」等々。
「このランプが消えた第3の理由は、この時には、19世紀と20世紀のほとんどには、不潔の精神で大気が汚染されるからです。そして汚らしい海のように、不潔が街中を汚染するでしょう。広場も、道も、公の所にも、驚くべき自由放埒によって汚染されるでしょう。そしてこの世には、童貞を保つような霊魂たちがほぼいなくなってしまうでしょう。」
「嫉妬深い疫病のような悪魔が、自分の悪意のある傲慢を以て、修道院の閉ざされた庭にも入って来るでしょう。この悪魔の鉤のような爪に、自分をあえて晒すかわいそうな霊魂たちは何と不幸な事であるでしょうか。そしてその他の霊魂たちは、この世に戻り、霊魂たちの滅びの為の、悪魔の道具となってしまうでしょう。」
「祭壇のランプが消えた第4の理由は、フリー・メイソンのセクトが、この社会の色々な階級を乗っ取ってしまい、そして非常にずる賢いやり方で家庭の中に入り、そして子供の子供らしさ、子供の純粋無垢を破壊してしまうでしょう。その子供たちの心の、デリケートなその心が失われてしまうでしょう。この恐るべき時には、子供たちの無邪気さがほとんど見つける事ができなくなるでしょう。その為に司祭召命は、ますます失われてしまうでしょう。」
「しかしその時には、ある修道会たちの規律、その会則遵守は、光り輝く事でしょう。その時に、祭壇に仕える聖なる聖職者たちは、隠れながらも、しかし美しい霊魂を以て、そして私の御子と私によって特別に愛される花のように、英雄的な聖徳を持って、不敬虔に対して戦いながら、彼らは祭壇に仕えるでしょう。彼らに対して不敬虔は、残酷な戦いを挑むでしょう。そして彼らを断罪し、讒言をし、そして彼らの悪口を言う事でしょう。そして彼らがその聖務を行なう事を妨害するでしょう。」
「しかしこのような聖職者たちは、柱のように、微動だにとも不動で、そして謙遜の精神を以て、犠牲の精神を以て、自分に与えられた、聖子（おんこ）イエズス・キリストの無限の御功徳によって与えられた、自分の聖務をやり遂げる事でしょう。彼らは私の御子の最も聖なる、そして優しい聖心のデリケートな、愛された者となるでしょう。」
「ところで、在俗の司祭たちには、多くの欠如が見出されます。彼らは自分の聖務をなおざりにするだろうからです。天主の羅針盤を失った彼らは、天主から与えられた道から外れてしまう事でしょう。そして彼らは金に愛着し、そしてそれを得ようとあまりにも多くの努力をする事でしょう。その時教会は、父のような愛・優しさ・強さ・健全な判断力・賢明さをもって聖職者たちを指導する、高位聖職者かつ父親の欠如の為に、多くのひどい暗闇を苦しむ事でしょう。多くの司祭たちはその精神を失い、そして彼らの霊魂は大きな危険に晒される事でしょう。」
「倦まず弛まず祈りなさい。あなたたちの心の秘密の隠れ家で苦い涙を流して、天主聖父に、イエズス・キリストの御聖体の聖心への愛によって、寛大にも流された聖子のいと尊き御血の功徳によって、聖子の御受難と御死去の深い悲しみと苦しみによって、祈りなさい。天主の為に働く聖職者たちを憐れんで下さるように、そしてできるだけ早くこの暗闇が終わる事ができるように、この災害の時が終わる事ができるように、教会に司祭職の精神を復興させるべき、かの高位聖職者を、一人の聖職者を送って下さるように祈りなさい。」
「私の御子と私は、私の息子であるこの高位聖職者を、特別の愛で愛しています。彼には、滅多にない特別の謙遜の心と、従順と、天主の息吹に対する従順と、そして教会の権利を守る為の力強さを与える事でしょう。そして彼には特別の優しい同情の心がある事でしょう。それは第二のキリストとして、彼が不幸な人々を軽蔑する事なく、光と導きを与える事ができる為です。そして司祭たちに、その義務を果たす事ができる勧告を与える事ができる為です。天主の優しさを以て彼が、天主の奉仕の為に、主のくびきを彼らに重くのしかからせることなく修道生活において聖別された霊魂たちを導くためです。主は"私のくびきは快く私の荷は軽い"言われました。私は、彼の手に天主の天秤を置き、そして天主が栄光を受けるように取り図らう事でしょう。」
「しかし、司祭の身分また修道者の身分において天主に捧げられた全ての霊魂たちの生ぬるさの為に、この高位聖職者が私たちに与えられるのは遅れるでしょう。この生ぬるさの為に、サタンは天主なる聖子の聖心（みこころ）に奉献された共和国の晴れた空を暗くするくらい雲のように、信仰のない多くの外国人たちを使って、この地の多くの地域を自分たちのものとして支配する事でしょう。
これらの信仰の無い人々によって、全ての悪徳が導入されるでしょう。その結果、ありとあらゆる天罰が下されるでしょう。疫病、飢餓、あるいは内的な国内の、あるいは他の国々との戦い、戦争、あるいは背教などによって、数多くの霊魂たちは失われてしまう事でしょう。そしてこのイエズス・キリストにとってとても大切な、私にとっても大切な、多くの霊魂は失われてしまう事でしょう。」
「この暗闇を取り除く為に、そして教会が、自由のはっきりとした陽の光を楽しむ事を妨げているこの暗闇を取り除く為に、将来、市民あるいは外国人、あるいは修道者、あるいは世俗の司祭たちの多くの血が流されるべき、恐るべき戦争が起こる事でしょう。その夜は最も恐るべき日、人間の目にとって、悪が大勝利を収めたと思える日がやって来るでしょう。」
「しかしその時、私の時が到達します。私は全く驚くべきやり方で、傲慢な、そして呪われたサタンを破壊します。そして彼を私の足の元に置き、彼を永遠の地獄の底に葬り尽くします。そして教会と国は最後に、この恐るべき暴君から解放される事でしょう。」
「教会のランプの火が消えた第5の理由は、それは、この世の富を持っている人たちが無関心だからです。教会が迫害されていても、聖徳が圧迫を受けていても、悪が勝利をしていても、信心深く自分たちの富を、この悪の破壊の為に使おうとせず、信仰の復興の為に使おうとしないからです。その無関心の為に、多くの国々は、天主の名前が少しずつこの地上から消えていくのを許してしまう事でしょう。そして彼らは悪徳と情念に自分の身を委ねてしまう事でしょう。」
「あぁ、私の愛する娘よ、もしもあなたがこの恐るべき時に生きなければならないとしたとしたら、あなたは悲しみの為に、すぐに死んでしまう事でしょう。しかし、私たちの遺産であるこれらの地に対して私の御子と私が持つ愛によって、今、このあなたのいけにえ、そしてあなたの祈りを、来たるべき時の苦しみを短くする為に使います。」
こういう事を言うと、マリア様の御訪問は終わりました。しかしこの言葉を聞いたマドレ・マリアナは、この将来起こるべき、教会と世界に対するものすごい苦しみを見て、あたかもの死んだかのようになってしまって、三日間、そのまま気を失ってしまいます。
これはマザー・マリアナが受けたビジョンの一つですが、しかしそのような霊魂たちが、既に21世紀に今、現在生きている私たちの苦しみがより短くなるように、これ以上私たちが苦しまないようにと、多くのいけにえと、犠牲と、苦しみと、断食と、祈りを捧げて下さっていた、その一生を捧げていた、そういう霊魂たちがたくさんいる、という事をぜひ知って下さい。
⑵ エクアドルにはまだその他にも、多くの寛大な霊魂らがいました。例えばガルシア・モレノです。
彼は、フランスに留学していた時に、フランスでイエズス様の聖心の信心の事を深く知りました。「フランスの王が、せっかくイエズス様の聖心からフランス王国を奉献するように頼まれたにも関わらず、それをしなかった」という事を聞いて、イエズスの聖心について学びました。
彼が大統領になった時には、エクアドルという共和国を、イエズス様の聖心に、国会を通して、法律を以て、奉献しました。その為に、彼は、ついには暗殺さえもされました。しかし何と寛大に、イエズス様の聖心を慰めたいと思った事でしょうか。
あるいは、エクアドルには有名な、マリア様の汚れなき御心、悲しみのマリア様（La Dolorosa de Quito）の御影があります。皆さんもきっとご覧になった事があると思います。
1906年4月20日に、イエズス会の学校である聖ガブリエル高校の食堂に飾ってあった、悲しみのマリア様の目が、瞼が、15分ほど、開いたり閉じたり、その天の方を向いて、エクアドルの為にお祈りをしているかのように動きました。奇跡があったのです。マリア様が目を開いたり閉じたりしただけだったのですが、大きな影響がありました。
すぐに教会の公式の調査があって、さらには医学的にも精神科の病院で「誰も狂ったのではなくて、本当にそういう事実があった」という事が、教会法的に確立されました。1906年6月3日（主日）、一万人以上がこの聖母の御影をもって聖母行列します。それを35,000人が見守っていました。
その時に、実はエクアドルには、反カトリックの政治家、フリーメーソンのアルファロ(Eloy Alfaro)という男がカトリック教会の迫害を引き起こしていました。リベラルのアルファロは、リベラルの政府に反対して革命を起こします。リベラル対リベラルの戦いでした。武力で大統領の地位を奪ったアルファロは、カトリック教育に反対する政策（公立の学校でのカトリック教理の勉強を廃止する）を発表し、イエズス会をエクアドルから追放しようとさえします。しかし、聖母の奇跡によって、信仰をよみがえらせたエクアドル市民たちは、アルファロに公然と反対します。
マリア様は、ご自分の目を開いたり閉じたりする事で、エクアドルをカトリックである事として守りました。
アルファロは1911年の選挙で負けて、パナマに逃げて行きます。新しい大統領エミリオ・エストラーダが大統領職について4か月後に死亡すると、1912年1月に新しい大統領選挙のためにエクアドルに戻ります。しかし捉えられて投獄され、リンチを受け、殺されてしまいます。
聖母の奇跡の25周年、あるいは50周年には、エクアドルではものすごい大きな記念行事が開かれました。「マリア様がその目を開いたり閉じたりして、ウインクして、守って下さった」と。
1931年の奇跡の銀祝には、この奇跡が国を挙げて祝われました。エクアドル最初の聖母大会が開かれ、この御影はエクアドルの各地に持ち運ばれました。
1956年の奇跡の金祝には、教会法による聖母の戴冠式が行われました。ピオ十二世教皇は、書簡を送り、教皇の名と権威によって、エクアドルのカトリック教育の元后として、聖母に黄金の冠を被せることを命じました。聖母の戴冠式の機会に、40名の外交的代表者たちの前で、エクアドルの新大統領はエンリケは選挙の勝利を天主と聖母に感謝しました。
⑶では、私たちは一体今日、今回どのような事を考えたら良いでしょうか？
まず、「私たちが今ここで、聖伝のミサをする事ができる」、あるいは「教会の復興の為に今、何かをする事ができる」という事に感謝致しましょう。
今の日本の教会をご覧になって下さい。
残念ながら、イエズス様の三位一体の神秘、イエズス様が御聖体の内に真に在し給うというその玄義、信仰の真理、あるいはマリア様が無原罪の御孕りであられるという事、あるいはマリア様のその終生童貞であるという事、天主の御母であるという事、あるいはマリア様がイエズス様と共に共償者として、第2のエヴァとして私たちの為に、私たちの霊的な母として共に苦しまれて、私たちの為に特別の救霊の役割を果たされたという事、あるいは聖霊の浄配であるという事、あるいはそのマリア様のその天と地の元后であるという、素晴らしいものすごい役割とその力、三位一体の天主こそが唯一の天主であって、全人類の歴史を支配しておられて、私たちを無から創造して、永遠の命の為に、永遠の昔から私たちを愛されておられるという事、これらの事を、今、教会で一体誰が教えて下さるでしょうか。
カトリックの最も基本的な信仰の話が話されていません。一体関心があるのは何かというと、全く別の事です。憲法９条とか、インカルチュレーションとかです。
霊魂の救霊、祈り、犠牲について話す、という事はどこで聞かれるでしょうか？
キトでは、400年前にマリア様が祈りと犠牲についての事を、特別な愛を受けた霊魂に話されました。ところで日本はキトよりも恵まれています。この21世紀に生きる私たちの為に、マリア様は特別に日本を選ばれて、日本の私たちに語りかけておられます。
特に秋田に来られて、マリア様はこう仰いました、「今、御子と共に、御父の御怒りを宥める霊魂を求めております。御父の怒りの手を何とか抑えようとしています。犠牲の霊魂が必要です。祈りと犠牲を捧げて下さい。」
秋田ではマリア様は涙をこめて訴えます、「先程も申しましたように、御父はこの地上を、ノアの洪水よりも更に恐ろしい罰で罰しようとしています、この世の罪の為に。もしもこれ以上人類が罪を犯し続けるならば、罪の赦しが無くなってしまうでしょう。」
「教会の祭壇は荒らされるでしょう。枢機卿と枢機卿は対立し合うでしょう。司教と司教は対立するでしょう。私に聖別された霊魂は失われるでしょう。私を敬う司祭たちは軽蔑されるでしょう。」
御聖体は、ますますなおざりにされています。御聖体を跪いて礼拝する事は、日本では禁止されています。
このマリア様がそのように私たちに警告されて、約50年経ちます。
しかし、マリア様の話は全く無視されています。誰もそれに応えようとしません。
エクアドルでは、マリア様が目を開いた閉じたというだけで、司教様たちは感謝の行事を、25周年、50周年と盛大に祝いました。
しかし、マリア様は日本で涙を101回流されたにも関わらず、何の反応もありません。無視されています。
あと数年でもう既に50年経とうとしますが、誰も関心を払いません。
天使は言います、「マリア様の御心に日本は捧げられているけれども、誰もそれに関心を払わないので、マリア様は非常に悲しんでおられる。」
では、私たちは一体どうしたら良いのでしょうか？この「400年前にマドレ・マリアナが一生懸命、死の、地獄のような苦しみを受けて、そして祈りを捧げたから、もう私たちは関係ない。私たちの為にやってくれたから、いいんだ」で良いのでしょうか？
マリア様が天から私たちの元、日本にやって来て、こう言われています。
「さぁ、これから大変な時が来る。罪が今地上に溢れている。このままでは天主御父が、本当は嫌なのだけれども、目を覚まさせる為に、罰をせざるを得ない。何とかそれを防ぎたいのだけれども、犠牲の霊魂が必要だ。」
私たちは一体どのようにしたら良いでしょうか？
ぜひ今日はこのミサを、マリア様の御心を慰める為に、罪の償いの為にも御捧げ下さい。
そしてもしもできれば、今年の5月に、マリア様の秋田の元に私たちは馳せ寄って、巡礼をしましょう。
もちろんお金も時間も犠牲も捧げなければなりませんが、ぜひマリア様が、私たちと日本を憐れんで下さるように、多くの司祭、修道者が、イエズス様をますます愛する道に立ち戻りますように、お祈り致しましょう。

Mother Mariana was praying at three o’clock in the morning in the upper choir, in front of the tabernacle, saying, “… kneeling in the dust I adore Thee as My Father and Spouse, and this love is victorious in its confidence … whereby I will be purified with Thy Precious Blood, through the hands of the Empress of Heaven, Blessed Mary, of whom I ask good success in my dying moments. In the definitive sentence upon which my happy eternity depends …”
Having said these words, she saw the sanctuary lamp, which burns next to the tabernacle, go out, leaving the altar completely in darkness. Mother Mariana tried to get up in order to light a candle, but she was unable to move. Then a supernatural light enlightened all the choir and the Virgin Mary appeared, who lit the sanctuary lamp, stood in front of her and said to her, “Beloved daughter of my heart, I am Mary of Good Success, your Mother and Protectress, who, carrying My Blessed Son in my left arm and the crosier in my right arm, come to give you the happy news that within ten months and some days, your eyes will finally close to the earthly light of this world, in order to open to eternal light.
“Oh, if all mortal men … knew what Heaven is, what the possession of God is! How differently they would live and never omit any sacrifice to possess it!
“The lamp which burns before the altar, and which you saw go out, has several meanings:
“The first meaning is that at the end of the nineteenth century and for a good part of the twentieth century, various heresies will be spread in this land, already constituted a free republic, and the precious light of faith reigning over it will go out, due to the complete corruption of morals. In this period there will be great physical and moral calamities, both in public and in private …
“In order to free [the Church and their country] from the slavery of these heresies, those whom the merciful love of my Blessed Son will destine for the restoration, will need great strength of will, constancy, courage and much confidence in God. And to put this faith and confidence of the just to the test, there will be occasions in which, apparently, all will be lost and paralyzed; and then will be the happy beginning of the complete restoration.[23]
“The second meaning is that this community of mine, being reduced in the number of persons, will be submerged in a sea of unfathomable and unspeakable bitterness …
“In these fateful times, injustice, covered with the name of false charity, will wreak havoc in souls, even in this closed garden of mine … in my faithful daughters, in my hidden souls … They will weep in secret, complaining to their God and Lord … asking Him to shorten such fateful times for the love of the Divine Prisoner.
“The third reason why the sanctuary lamp went out is because in these times the atmosphere will be saturated with the spirit of impurity, which, like an unclean sea, will spread through the streets, plazas and public places with an astounding liberty, such that there will be almost no virgin souls in the world.
“The envious and pestilential devil will attempt, in his malicious pride, to enter into these closed gardens of the religious cloisters … Alas! There will be unwary souls who will voluntarily put themselves into his claws, and others, returning to the world, will be the devil’s instruments for losing souls.
“The fourth reason for the sanctuary lamp going out is that the sect [of Masonry] having taken over the social classes, will have enough cunning to introduce itself into domestic households, so that, by ruining childhood, the devil shall glory in being fed with the exquisite delicacy of children’s hearts.
“In these fateful times, childhood innocence will scarcely be found, in this way vocations to the priesthood will gradually disappear…
“At that time observance of the Rule in communities will shine forth,[24] and there will be holy ministers of the altar, hidden and beautiful souls in whom my Blessed Son and I will take pleasure in the exquisite flowers and fruits of their heroic sanctity, against whom impiety will wage a cruel war filling them with condemnations, calumnies and vexations to prevent them from fulfilling their ministry. They, like firm columns, will remain immoveable, facing everything with that spirit of humility and sacrifice with which they will be vested in virtue of the infinite merits of my Blessed Son, who loves them like the most delicate fibers of His Most Holy and most tender Heart.[25]
“In the secular clergy there will be much to be desired in this period, because priests will neglect their sacred duty. Losing the Divine compass they will stray from the path marked out by God for the priestly ministry and they will become attached to money, and to gain it, they will make too much effort.
“Then the Church will suffer the dark night from the lack of a prelate and father to watch over [the secular clergy] with paternal love, with sweetness, strength, sound judgment and prudence. Many of them will lose their spirit, placing their souls in great danger.
“Pray with insistence, cry out without tiring and weep with bitter tears in the secret recess of your heart, begging our Heavenly Father, for the love of the Eucharistic Heart of my beloved Son, for the Most Precious Blood poured out with such generosity and for the deep grief and pains of His bitter Passion and death, to have pity on His ministers and put an end, as soon as possible, to such disastrous times, by sending to the Church the prelate who shall restore the spirit of his priests.[26]
“My Son and I will love this beloved son of mine with a love of predilection, since we will give him rare qualities of humility of heart, of docility to divine inspirations, of strength for defending the rights of the Church and a tender and compassionate heart; so that, like another Christ, he may care for the great and the small, without despising the most unfortunate, to whom he will give light and counsel in their duties and sorrows. And so that, with Divine sweetness, he may guide consecrated souls to the service of God in their religious life without making the Lord’s yoke to weigh heavily upon them, Who said, ‘My yoke is sweet and my burden light,’[27] I will put the balance of the sanctuary in his hand so that all may be done with weight and measure, and God may be glorified.
“The tepidity of all souls consecrated to God in the sacerdotal and religious state will impede having this prelate and father sooner. This same tepidity will be the cause of accursed Satan taking possession of these regions, who will acquire all of them by means of so many foreign people without faith, who like a black cloud will darken the clear sky of the republic then consecrated to the Sacred Heart of my Divine Son.
“With those people all the vices will be introduced which will draw down, as a result, all kinds of punishments, like plagues, hunger, conflicts both internal and with other nations, and apostasy, the cause of the loss of a considerable number of souls, all very dear to Jesus Christ and to me.
“In order to dispel this black cloud, which prevents the Church from enjoying the clear day of liberty, there will be a tremendous and frightful war in which the blood of citizens and foreigners, of religious and secular priests, and also of religious will flow. That night will be most horrifying, because, to human eyes, evil will seem to triumph.
“Then my hour shall have arrived, in which I, in an astonishing manner, will destroy the proud and accursed Satan, placing him under my feet and burying him in the infernal abyss, while the Church and country finally shall be free of his cruel tyranny.
”The fifth reason is that it is due to carelessness; it is due to the neglect of persons who, possessing substantial wealth, will view with indifference the Church being oppressed, virtue persecuted, wickedness triumphing, without piously using their wealth for the destruction of evil and the restoration of the faith. And owing to this indifference of the nation in allowing the name of God to be wiped out little by little and by adhering to the spirit of evil, [they will] give themselves over to vices and passions.
“Oh, my beloved daughter, if it were given to you to live in that frightful time, you would die of sorrow upon seeing happen all that I reveal to you now. Such is the love that my Blessed Son and I have for these lands, our inheritance, to which we wish from now on to apply your sacrifices and prayers for shortening the duration of the time of such a terrible catastrophe.”
After these words, Mary of Good Success ended her visit. Nevertheless, Mother Mariana had a vision of all that the Virgin had said would come to pass, and this affected her so much that she remained in the choir as though dead, with her forehead on the ground and arms outstretched, and so the sisters found her and brought her to her bed. She remained in this state for three days and three nights. On the third day, at three o’clock in the morning, Mother Mariana sat up, saying, “Yes, Wounded Seraph and my dear father, I thank you.”
Mother related the apparition of the Virgin to her spiritual director and confided to him that when she was unconscious, she saw Saint Francis of Assisi, who said to her, among other things,
“A few months are left for you to bring to a close your painful exile … During your last moments, at your side will be Beatriz, the foundress of your Order, I and all the sisters of the Seraphic family, and Blessed Ignatius of Loyola, whom you love so much for the ardent love that he had during his life for Jesus Christ, and that gave Him so many souls at the cost of great sacrifices. He is a servant much loved by God, and the military character that motivated his entire spiritual life, and which his Society has received from him, will remain in his Society. In it there will always be great scholars, great saints and great martyrs. They will possess discretion and the discernment of spirits as a special gift of the Divine bounty, and so the serpent’s tail will not be able to be hidden from them …
“Great afflictions, persecutions and calumnies await this convent so dear to God and our Blessed Mother, which will refine the fervent and faithful souls, and will expel the tepid, since they are unworthy of receiving these valuable gifts …”

They [the prophetic words of Our Lady] were received by a nun shortly after the Council of Trent, so you see, quite a few centuries ago. This apparition is thoroughly recognized by Rome and the ecclesiastical authorities; a magnificent church was built for the Blessed Virgin Mary wherein the faithful of Ecuador venerate with great devotion a statue of Our Lady, whose face was made miraculously. The artist was in the process of painting it when he found the face of the Holy Virgin miraculously formed. And Our Lady prophesied for the twentieth century, saying explicitly that during the nineteenth century and most of the twentieth century, errors would become more and more widespread in Holy Church, placing the Church in a catastrophic situation. Morals would become corrupt and the Faith would disappear. It seems impossible not to see it happening today.
“I excuse myself for continuing this account of the apparition, but she speaks of a prelate who will absolutely oppose this wave of apostasy and impiety—saving the priesthood by forming good priests. I do not say that prophecy refers to me. You may draw your own conclusions. I was stupefied when reading these lines but I cannot deny them, since they are recorded and deposited in the archives of this apparition.”

善き出来事のマリア様は、20世紀の私たちの為に、特別にいけにえの霊魂を求めました。そしてその選ばれた清い霊魂が、マザー・マリアナ・デ・ヘスス・トレス (Mother Mariana de Jesús Torres y Berriochoa)という方でした。非常に寛大で、非常に愛された霊魂でした。そしてこの彼女の、地獄をも体験するような、そして病と、苦しみと、いけにえと、祈りの、礼拝の人生を通して、20世紀の私たちの為に、特別の恵みを準備して下さいました。
エクアドルという国は、私たちにもほとんど知られていない国ですけれども、多くの聖なる寛大な、イエズス様の愛に燃える霊魂たちをたくさん生み出した国だ、という事を、特に20世紀の為に、私たちの為に準備されていた国だ、という事をひしひしと私は体験しました。
そこでぜひ皆さんに、「そのような霊魂がいた」という事、そして「私たちの為に、今、この現代の私たちの霊魂が救われる為に、特別な天主の御計らいがあった」という事をよくご存知になって下さい。
⑴今日、そのマザー・マリアナが受けたメッセージというものを、少しだけご紹介させて下さい。
⑵そして、エクアドルには他にもどのような事があったのか、という事を簡単に話させて下さい。
⑶最後に、では私たちは今、そのような霊魂たちからの特別の犠牲と、特別の苦しみの為に、私たちが今何を受けたのか、そして私たちは何をすべきなのか、という事を黙想致しましょう。
⑴マザー・マリアナ・デ・ヘスス・トレスという修道女は、修道院長となって、また幼少の頃から特別に、マリア様からのメッセージなどを受けました。今回私のぜひ紹介させて頂きたいと思うのは、この人生の終わりに、亡くなる1年くらい前の1634年の3月に受けたメッセージです。
マザー・マリアナは、いつも朝早く早朝から、例えば朝の3時とかから起きて、御聖体礼拝、黙想などをしていました。
三位一体の神秘。聖父・聖子・聖霊、三位一体が区別されていて、しかし唯一の天主である事。
あるいは、この三位一体の聖子が、三位一体の第二のペルソナ聖子が、御聖体の内に真に在す事。
あるいは、その御聖体の内に真に在す全能永遠の天主が、私たちをどれほど愛されているか。
また、三位一体が、マリア様の事をどれほど愛されているか。罪の汚れ無く、聖アンナの胎内に宿された事。
あるいは、イエズス・キリスト共に、マリア様が人類の罪の償いの為の共償者となった事。
等よく黙想されていました。そしてその神秘の中に深く入っていました。
すると、天の元后マリア様が、マザー・マリアナに御現れになります。特にマリア様にマザー・マリアナは、「善き死を遂げる事ができるように」とお願いしていました。
すると、ちょうどこの祭壇のように、綺麗に飾られた御聖堂が、この教会のランプで照らされていたランプが、その御聖堂のランプが、突然消えてしまいます。そして真っ暗になります。何とかローソクの火を点けようとするのですけれども、マザー・マリアナの体は動きません。
すると突然、超自然の光が祭壇に輝いて、そして昼間のように明るくなります。マリア様が御現れになって、そしてお言葉をこう下さいます。
「私の御心の愛された娘よ。私は、善き出来事のマリア、あなたの母、あなたの守護者です、そして私の御子イエズスを私の左手に、そして右の手に司祭杖を持ち、私はあなたに、善い知らせを告げる為にやって来ました。その善い知らせとは、10ヶ月と数日後、あなたはこの世の地上の光に目を閉じ、永遠の光を見る為に目を開く、その日がやって来るるでしょう。」
「あぁ、死すべき全ての人々が、もしも『天国がどのようなものである』という事を知っていたなら！もしも『天主を所有する』という事の幸せがどれほど素晴らしいものかを知っていたなら！この人生をどれほど変わって生きていた事でしょうか！そして永遠を得る為に、天主を得る為に、どのような犠牲も省略したりする事はなかったでしょう！」
「今、祭壇の前に燃えている至聖所のランプが消えたのには、いつくかの意味があります。」
「第一の意味は、19世紀の終わりと20世紀のほとんどには、この時期になると、多くの異端がすでに自由共和国となったこの地に広がり、そしてそこを支配していた信仰の貴重な光が消え失せるでしょう。これは、道徳が全く腐敗した為です。この時には、肉体的にも、精神的にも、公にも、個人的な生活においても、多くの困難があるでしょう。」
「教会とこの地上の国を、異端の奴隷状態から解放する為に、私の愛する御子の特別な憐みの愛によって復興のために選ばれた霊魂があります。この霊魂は、復興させる為に、非常に強い意志と、持続心と、勇気と、天主に対する信頼を持たなければならないでしょう。そして義人のこの信仰と、天主に対する信頼を試す為に、見かけ上全ては失われて、全ては麻痺してしまうように思われる時がやって来るでしょう。しかしその時にこそ、完全な復興の、幸せな始まりの時です。」
「ランプが消えた第2の意味は、この私の愛する共同体が数においても非常に少なくなり、言う事のできない苦々しい、苦しみの海の中に投げ込まれるであるだろうからです。間違った、偽りの愛徳の名前によって、不正義が行なわれるでしょう。私のこの閉ざされた庭においてでさえ、忠実な娘たちにおいてでさえ、私の隠された霊魂たちにおいてでさえ、霊魂たちを座礁させるでしょう。」等々。
「このランプが消えた第3の理由は、この時には、19世紀と20世紀のほとんどには、不潔の精神で大気が汚染されるからです。そして汚らしい海のように、不潔が街中を汚染するでしょう。広場も、道も、公の所にも、驚くべき自由放埒によって汚染されるでしょう。そしてこの世には、童貞を保つような霊魂たちがほぼいなくなってしまうでしょう。」
「嫉妬深い疫病のような悪魔が、自分の悪意のある傲慢を以て、修道院の閉ざされた庭にも入って来るでしょう。この悪魔の鉤のような爪に、自分をあえて晒すかわいそうな霊魂たちは何と不幸な事であるでしょうか。そしてその他の霊魂たちは、この世に戻り、霊魂たちの滅びの為の、悪魔の道具となってしまうでしょう。」
「祭壇のランプが消えた第4の理由は、フリー・メイソンのセクトが、この社会の色々な階級を乗っ取ってしまい、そして非常にずる賢いやり方で家庭の中に入り、そして子供の子供らしさ、子供の純粋無垢を破壊してしまうでしょう。その子供たちの心の、デリケートなその心が失われてしまうでしょう。この恐るべき時には、子供たちの無邪気さがほとんど見つける事ができなくなるでしょう。その為に司祭召命は、ますます失われてしまうでしょう。」
「しかしその時には、ある修道会たちの規律、その会則遵守は、光り輝く事でしょう。その時に、祭壇に仕える聖なる聖職者たちは、隠れながらも、しかし美しい霊魂を以て、そして私の御子と私によって特別に愛される花のように、英雄的な聖徳を持って、不敬虔に対して戦いながら、彼らは祭壇に仕えるでしょう。彼らに対して不敬虔は、残酷な戦いを挑むでしょう。そして彼らを断罪し、讒言をし、そして彼らの悪口を言う事でしょう。そして彼らがその聖務を行なう事を妨害するでしょう。」
「しかしこのような聖職者たちは、柱のように、微動だにとも不動で、そして謙遜の精神を以て、犠牲の精神を以て、自分に与えられた、聖子（おんこ）イエズス・キリストの無限の御功徳によって与えられた、自分の聖務をやり遂げる事でしょう。彼らは私の御子の最も聖なる、そして優しい聖心のデリケートな、愛された者となるでしょう。」
「ところで、在俗の司祭たちには、多くの欠如が見出されます。彼らは自分の聖務をなおざりにするだろうからです。天主の羅針盤を失った彼らは、天主から与えられた道から外れてしまう事でしょう。そして彼らは金に愛着し、そしてそれを得ようとあまりにも多くの努力をする事でしょう。その時教会は、父のような愛・優しさ・強さ・健全な判断力・賢明さをもって聖職者たちを指導する、高位聖職者かつ父親の欠如の為に、多くのひどい暗闇を苦しむ事でしょう。多くの司祭たちはその精神を失い、そして彼らの霊魂は大きな危険に晒される事でしょう。」
「倦まず弛まず祈りなさい。あなたたちの心の秘密の隠れ家で苦い涙を流して、天主聖父に、イエズス・キリストの御聖体の聖心への愛によって、寛大にも流された聖子のいと尊き御血の功徳によって、聖子の御受難と御死去の深い悲しみと苦しみによって、祈りなさい。天主の為に働く聖職者たちを憐れんで下さるように、そしてできるだけ早くこの暗闇が終わる事ができるように、この災害の時が終わる事ができるように、教会に司祭職の精神を復興させるべき、かの高位聖職者を、一人の聖職者を送って下さるように祈りなさい。」
「私の御子と私は、私の息子であるこの高位聖職者を、特別の愛で愛しています。彼には、滅多にない特別の謙遜の心と、従順と、天主の息吹に対する従順と、そして教会の権利を守る為の力強さを与える事でしょう。そして彼には特別の優しい同情の心がある事でしょう。それは第二のキリストとして、彼が不幸な人々を軽蔑する事なく、光と導きを与える事ができる為です。そして司祭たちに、その義務を果たす事ができる勧告を与える事ができる為です。天主の優しさを以て彼が、天主の奉仕の為に、主のくびきを彼らに重くのしかからせることなく修道生活において聖別された霊魂たちを導くためです。主は"私のくびきは快く私の荷は軽い"言われました。私は、彼の手に天主の天秤を置き、そして天主が栄光を受けるように取り図らう事でしょう。」
「しかし、司祭の身分また修道者の身分において天主に捧げられた全ての霊魂たちの生ぬるさの為に、この高位聖職者が私たちに与えられるのは遅れるでしょう。この生ぬるさの為に、サタンは天主なる聖子の聖心（みこころ）に奉献された共和国の晴れた空を暗くするくらい雲のように、信仰のない多くの外国人たちを使って、この地の多くの地域を自分たちのものとして支配する事でしょう。
これらの信仰の無い人々によって、全ての悪徳が導入されるでしょう。その結果、ありとあらゆる天罰が下されるでしょう。疫病、飢餓、あるいは内的な国内の、あるいは他の国々との戦い、戦争、あるいは背教などによって、数多くの霊魂たちは失われてしまう事でしょう。そしてこのイエズス・キリストにとってとても大切な、私にとっても大切な、多くの霊魂は失われてしまう事でしょう。」
「この暗闇を取り除く為に、そして教会が、自由のはっきりとした陽の光を楽しむ事を妨げているこの暗闇を取り除く為に、将来、市民あるいは外国人、あるいは修道者、あるいは世俗の司祭たちの多くの血が流されるべき、恐るべき戦争が起こる事でしょう。その夜は最も恐るべき日、人間の目にとって、悪が大勝利を収めたと思える日がやって来るでしょう。」
「しかしその時、私の時が到達します。私は全く驚くべきやり方で、傲慢な、そして呪われたサタンを破壊します。そして彼を私の足の元に置き、彼を永遠の地獄の底に葬り尽くします。そして教会と国は最後に、この恐るべき暴君から解放される事でしょう。」
「教会のランプの火が消えた第5の理由は、それは、この世の富を持っている人たちが無関心だからです。教会が迫害されていても、聖徳が圧迫を受けていても、悪が勝利をしていても、信心深く自分たちの富を、この悪の破壊の為に使おうとせず、信仰の復興の為に使おうとしないからです。その無関心の為に、多くの国々は、天主の名前が少しずつこの地上から消えていくのを許してしまう事でしょう。そして彼らは悪徳と情念に自分の身を委ねてしまう事でしょう。」
「あぁ、私の愛する娘よ、もしもあなたがこの恐るべき時に生きなければならないとしたとしたら、あなたは悲しみの為に、すぐに死んでしまう事でしょう。しかし、私たちの遺産であるこれらの地に対して私の御子と私が持つ愛によって、今、このあなたのいけにえ、そしてあなたの祈りを、来たるべき時の苦しみを短くする為に使います。」
こういう事を言うと、マリア様の御訪問は終わりました。しかしこの言葉を聞いたマドレ・マリアナは、この将来起こるべき、教会と世界に対するものすごい苦しみを見て、あたかもの死んだかのようになってしまって、三日間、そのまま気を失ってしまいます。
これはマザー・マリアナが受けたビジョンの一つですが、しかしそのような霊魂たちが、既に21世紀に今、現在生きている私たちの苦しみがより短くなるように、これ以上私たちが苦しまないようにと、多くのいけにえと、犠牲と、苦しみと、断食と、祈りを捧げて下さっていた、その一生を捧げていた、そういう霊魂たちがたくさんいる、という事をぜひ知って下さい。
⑵ エクアドルにはまだその他にも、多くの寛大な霊魂らがいました。例えばガルシア・モレノです。
彼は、フランスに留学していた時に、フランスでイエズス様の聖心の信心の事を深く知りました。「フランスの王が、せっかくイエズス様の聖心からフランス王国を奉献するように頼まれたにも関わらず、それをしなかった」という事を聞いて、イエズスの聖心について学びました。
彼が大統領になった時には、エクアドルという共和国を、イエズス様の聖心に、国会を通して、法律を以て、奉献しました。その為に、彼は、ついには暗殺さえもされました。しかし何と寛大に、イエズス様の聖心を慰めたいと思った事でしょうか。
あるいは、エクアドルには有名な、マリア様の汚れなき御心、悲しみのマリア様（La Dolorosa de Quito）の御影があります。皆さんもきっとご覧になった事があると思います。
1906年4月20日に、イエズス会の学校である聖ガブリエル高校の食堂に飾ってあった、悲しみのマリア様の目が、瞼が、15分ほど、開いたり閉じたり、その天の方を向いて、エクアドルの為にお祈りをしているかのように動きました。奇跡があったのです。マリア様が目を開いたり閉じたりしただけだったのですが、大きな影響がありました。
すぐに教会の公式の調査があって、さらには医学的にも精神科の病院で「誰も狂ったのではなくて、本当にそういう事実があった」という事が、教会法的に確立されました。1906年6月3日（主日）、一万人以上がこの聖母の御影をもって聖母行列します。それを35,000人が見守っていました。
その時に、実はエクアドルには、反カトリックの政治家、フリーメーソンのアルファロ(Eloy Alfaro)という男がカトリック教会の迫害を引き起こしていました。リベラルのアルファロは、リベラルの政府に反対して革命を起こします。リベラル対リベラルの戦いでした。武力で大統領の地位を奪ったアルファロは、カトリック教育に反対する政策（公立の学校でのカトリック教理の勉強を廃止する）を発表し、イエズス会をエクアドルから追放しようとさえします。しかし、聖母の奇跡によって、信仰をよみがえらせたエクアドル市民たちは、アルファロに公然と反対します。
マリア様は、ご自分の目を開いたり閉じたりする事で、エクアドルをカトリックである事として守りました。
アルファロは1911年の選挙で負けて、パナマに逃げて行きます。新しい大統領エミリオ・エストラーダが大統領職について4か月後に死亡すると、1912年1月に新しい大統領選挙のためにエクアドルに戻ります。しかし捉えられて投獄され、リンチを受け、殺されてしまいます。
聖母の奇跡の25周年、あるいは50周年には、エクアドルではものすごい大きな記念行事が開かれました。「マリア様がその目を開いたり閉じたりして、ウインクして、守って下さった」と。
1931年の奇跡の銀祝には、この奇跡が国を挙げて祝われました。エクアドル最初の聖母大会が開かれ、この御影はエクアドルの各地に持ち運ばれました。
1956年の奇跡の金祝には、教会法による聖母の戴冠式が行われました。ピオ十二世教皇は、書簡を送り、教皇の名と権威によって、エクアドルのカトリック教育の元后として、聖母に黄金の冠を被せることを命じました。聖母の戴冠式の機会に、40名の外交的代表者たちの前で、エクアドルの新大統領はエンリケは選挙の勝利を天主と聖母に感謝しました。
⑶では、私たちは一体今日、今回どのような事を考えたら良いでしょうか？
まず、「私たちが今ここで、聖伝のミサをする事ができる」、あるいは「教会の復興の為に今、何かをする事ができる」という事に感謝致しましょう。
今の日本の教会をご覧になって下さい。
残念ながら、イエズス様の三位一体の神秘、イエズス様が御聖体の内に真に在し給うというその玄義、信仰の真理、あるいはマリア様が無原罪の御孕りであられるという事、あるいはマリア様のその終生童貞であるという事、天主の御母であるという事、あるいはマリア様がイエズス様と共に共償者として、第2のエヴァとして私たちの為に、私たちの霊的な母として共に苦しまれて、私たちの為に特別の救霊の役割を果たされたという事、あるいは聖霊の浄配であるという事、あるいはそのマリア様のその天と地の元后であるという、素晴らしいものすごい役割とその力、三位一体の天主こそが唯一の天主であって、全人類の歴史を支配しておられて、私たちを無から創造して、永遠の命の為に、永遠の昔から私たちを愛されておられるという事、これらの事を、今、教会で一体誰が教えて下さるでしょうか。
カトリックの最も基本的な信仰の話が話されていません。一体関心があるのは何かというと、全く別の事です。憲法９条とか、インカルチュレーションとかです。
霊魂の救霊、祈り、犠牲について話す、という事はどこで聞かれるでしょうか？
キトでは、400年前にマリア様が祈りと犠牲についての事を、特別な愛を受けた霊魂に話されました。ところで日本はキトよりも恵まれています。この21世紀に生きる私たちの為に、マリア様は特別に日本を選ばれて、日本の私たちに語りかけておられます。
特に秋田に来られて、マリア様はこう仰いました、「今、御子と共に、御父の御怒りを宥める霊魂を求めております。御父の怒りの手を何とか抑えようとしています。犠牲の霊魂が必要です。祈りと犠牲を捧げて下さい。」
秋田ではマリア様は涙をこめて訴えます、「先程も申しましたように、御父はこの地上を、ノアの洪水よりも更に恐ろしい罰で罰しようとしています、この世の罪の為に。もしもこれ以上人類が罪を犯し続けるならば、罪の赦しが無くなってしまうでしょう。」
「教会の祭壇は荒らされるでしょう。枢機卿と枢機卿は対立し合うでしょう。司教と司教は対立するでしょう。私に聖別された霊魂は失われるでしょう。私を敬う司祭たちは軽蔑されるでしょう。」
御聖体は、ますますなおざりにされています。御聖体を跪いて礼拝する事は、日本では禁止されています。
このマリア様がそのように私たちに警告されて、約50年経ちます。
しかし、マリア様の話は全く無視されています。誰もそれに応えようとしません。
エクアドルでは、マリア様が目を開いた閉じたというだけで、司教様たちは感謝の行事を、25周年、50周年と盛大に祝いました。
しかし、マリア様は日本で涙を101回流されたにも関わらず、何の反応もありません。無視されています。
あと数年でもう既に50年経とうとしますが、誰も関心を払いません。
天使は言います、「マリア様の御心に日本は捧げられているけれども、誰もそれに関心を払わないので、マリア様は非常に悲しんでおられる。」
では、私たちは一体どうしたら良いのでしょうか？この「400年前にマドレ・マリアナが一生懸命、死の、地獄のような苦しみを受けて、そして祈りを捧げたから、もう私たちは関係ない。私たちの為にやってくれたから、いいんだ」で良いのでしょうか？
マリア様が天から私たちの元、日本にやって来て、こう言われています。
「さぁ、これから大変な時が来る。罪が今地上に溢れている。このままでは天主御父が、本当は嫌なのだけれども、目を覚まさせる為に、罰をせざるを得ない。何とかそれを防ぎたいのだけれども、犠牲の霊魂が必要だ。」
私たちは一体どのようにしたら良いでしょうか？
ぜひ今日はこのミサを、マリア様の御心を慰める為に、罪の償いの為にも御捧げ下さい。
そしてもしもできれば、今年の5月に、マリア様の秋田の元に私たちは馳せ寄って、巡礼をしましょう。
もちろんお金も時間も犠牲も捧げなければなりませんが、ぜひマリア様が、私たちと日本を憐れんで下さるように、多くの司祭、修道者が、イエズス様をますます愛する道に立ち戻りますように、お祈り致しましょう。

Ninth Apparition: March, 1634
Mother Mariana was praying at three o’clock in the morning in the upper choir, in front of the tabernacle, saying, “… kneeling in the dust I adore Thee as My Father and Spouse, and this love is victorious in its confidence … whereby I will be purified with Thy Precious Blood, through the hands of the Empress of Heaven, Blessed Mary, of whom I ask good success in my dying moments. In the definitive sentence upon which my happy eternity depends …”
Having said these words, she saw the sanctuary lamp, which burns next to the tabernacle, go out, leaving the altar completely in darkness. Mother Mariana tried to get up in order to light a candle, but she was unable to move. Then a supernatural light enlightened all the choir and the Virgin Mary appeared, who lit the sanctuary lamp, stood in front of her and said to her, “Beloved daughter of my heart, I am Mary of Good Success, your Mother and Protectress, who, carrying My Blessed Son in my left arm and the crosier in my right arm, come to give you the happy news that within ten months and some days, your eyes will finally close to the earthly light of this world, in order to open to eternal light.
“Oh, if all mortal men … knew what Heaven is, what the possession of God is! How differently they would live and never omit any sacrifice to possess it!
“The lamp which burns before the altar, and which you saw go out, has several meanings:
“The first meaning is that at the end of the nineteenth century and for a good part of the twentieth century, various heresies will be spread in this land, already constituted a free republic, and the precious light of faith reigning over it will go out, due to the complete corruption of morals. In this period there will be great physical and moral calamities, both in public and in private …
“In order to free [the Church and their country] from the slavery of these heresies, those whom the merciful love of my Blessed Son will destine for the restoration, will need great strength of will, constancy, courage and much confidence in God. And to put this faith and confidence of the just to the test, there will be occasions in which, apparently, all will be lost and paralyzed; and then will be the happy beginning of the complete restoration.[23]
“The second meaning is that this community of mine, being reduced in the number of persons, will be submerged in a sea of unfathomable and unspeakable bitterness …
“In these fateful times, injustice, covered with the name of false charity, will wreak havoc in souls, even in this closed garden of mine … in my faithful daughters, in my hidden souls … They will weep in secret, complaining to their God and Lord … asking Him to shorten such fateful times for the love of the Divine Prisoner.
“The third reason why the sanctuary lamp went out is because in these times the atmosphere will be saturated with the spirit of impurity, which, like an unclean sea, will spread through the streets, plazas and public places with an astounding liberty, such that there will be almost no virgin souls in the world.
“The envious and pestilential devil will attempt, in his malicious pride, to enter into these closed gardens of the religious cloisters … Alas! There will be unwary souls who will voluntarily put themselves into his claws, and others, returning to the world, will be the devil’s instruments for losing souls.
“The fourth reason for the sanctuary lamp going out is that the sect [of Masonry] having taken over the social classes, will have enough cunning to introduce itself into domestic households, so that, by ruining childhood, the devil shall glory in being fed with the exquisite delicacy of children’s hearts.
“In these fateful times, childhood innocence will scarcely be found, in this way vocations to the priesthood will gradually disappear…
“At that time observance of the Rule in communities will shine forth,[24] and there will be holy ministers of the altar, hidden and beautiful souls in whom my Blessed Son and I will take pleasure in the exquisite flowers and fruits of their heroic sanctity, against whom impiety will wage a cruel war filling them with condemnations, calumnies and vexations to prevent them from fulfilling their ministry. They, like firm columns, will remain immoveable, facing everything with that spirit of humility and sacrifice with which they will be vested in virtue of the infinite merits of my Blessed Son, who loves them like the most delicate fibers of His Most Holy and most tender Heart.[25]
“In the secular clergy there will be much to be desired in this period, because priests will neglect their sacred duty. Losing the Divine compass they will stray from the path marked out by God for the priestly ministry and they will become attached to money, and to gain it, they will make too much effort.
“Then the Church will suffer the dark night from the lack of a prelate and father to watch over [the secular clergy] with paternal love, with sweetness, strength, sound judgment and prudence. Many of them will lose their spirit, placing their souls in great danger.
“Pray with insistence, cry out without tiring and weep with bitter tears in the secret recess of your heart, begging our Heavenly Father, for the love of the Eucharistic Heart of my beloved Son, for the Most Precious Blood poured out with such generosity and for the deep grief and pains of His bitter Passion and death, to have pity on His ministers and put an end, as soon as possible, to such disastrous times, by sending to the Church the prelate who shall restore the spirit of his priests.[26]
“My Son and I will love this beloved son of mine with a love of predilection, since we will give him rare qualities of humility of heart, of docility to divine inspirations, of strength for defending the rights of the Church and a tender and compassionate heart; so that, like another Christ, he may care for the great and the small, without despising the most unfortunate, to whom he will give light and counsel in their duties and sorrows. And so that, with Divine sweetness, he may guide consecrated souls to the service of God in their religious life without making the Lord’s yoke to weigh heavily upon them, Who said, ‘My yoke is sweet and my burden light,’[27] I will put the balance of the sanctuary in his hand so that all may be done with weight and measure, and God may be glorified.
“The tepidity of all souls consecrated to God in the sacerdotal and religious state will impede having this prelate and father sooner. This same tepidity will be the cause of accursed Satan taking possession of these regions, who will acquire all of them by means of so many foreign people without faith, who like a black cloud will darken the clear sky of the republic then consecrated to the Sacred Heart of my Divine Son.
“With those people all the vices will be introduced which will draw down, as a result, all kinds of punishments, like plagues, hunger, conflicts both internal and with other nations, and apostasy, the cause of the loss of a considerable number of souls, all very dear to Jesus Christ and to me.
“In order to dispel this black cloud, which prevents the Church from enjoying the clear day of liberty, there will be a tremendous and frightful war in which the blood of citizens and foreigners, of religious and secular priests, and also of religious will flow. That night will be most horrifying, because, to human eyes, evil will seem to triumph.
“Then my hour shall have arrived, in which I, in an astonishing manner, will destroy the proud and accursed Satan, placing him under my feet and burying him in the infernal abyss, while the Church and country finally shall be free of his cruel tyranny.
”The fifth reason is that it is due to carelessness; it is due to the neglect of persons who, possessing substantial wealth, will view with indifference the Church being oppressed, virtue persecuted, wickedness triumphing, without piously using their wealth for the destruction of evil and the restoration of the faith. And owing to this indifference of the nation in allowing the name of God to be wiped out little by little and by adhering to the spirit of evil, [they will] give themselves over to vices and passions.
“Oh, my beloved daughter, if it were given to you to live in that frightful time, you would die of sorrow upon seeing happen all that I reveal to you now. Such is the love that my Blessed Son and I have for these lands, our inheritance, to which we wish from now on to apply your sacrifices and prayers for shortening the duration of the time of such a terrible catastrophe.”
After these words, Mary of Good Success ended her visit. Nevertheless, Mother Mariana had a vision of all that the Virgin had said would come to pass, and this affected her so much that she remained in the choir as though dead, with her forehead on the ground and arms outstretched, and so the sisters found her and brought her to her bed. She remained in this state for three days and three nights. On the third day, at three o’clock in the morning, Mother Mariana sat up, saying, “Yes, Wounded Seraph and my dear father, I thank you.”
Mother related the apparition of the Virgin to her spiritual director and confided to him that when she was unconscious, she saw Saint Francis of Assisi, who said to her, among other things,
“A few months are left for you to bring to a close your painful exile … During your last moments, at your side will be Beatriz, the foundress of your Order, I and all the sisters of the Seraphic family, and Blessed Ignatius of Loyola, whom you love so much for the ardent love that he had during his life for Jesus Christ, and that gave Him so many souls at the cost of great sacrifices. He is a servant much loved by God, and the military character that motivated his entire spiritual life, and which his Society has received from him, will remain in his Society. In it there will always be great scholars, great saints and great martyrs. They will possess discretion and the discernment of spirits as a special gift of the Divine bounty, and so the serpent’s tail will not be able to be hidden from them …
“Great afflictions, persecutions and calumnies await this convent so dear to God and our Blessed Mother, which will refine the fervent and faithful souls, and will expel the tepid, since they are unworthy of receiving these valuable gifts …”

[26] Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre referred to this prophecy during his sermon when consecrating four bishops on June 30, 1988, as follows: “Just recently, the priest who takes care of the Society priory in Bogota, Colombia, brought me a book concerning the apparition of Our Lady of Buen Suceso,—of ‘Good Success’—to whom a large church in Quito, Ecuador, was dedicated. They [the prophetic words of Our Lady] were received by a nun shortly after the Council of Trent, so you see, quite a few centuries ago. This apparition is thoroughly recognized by Rome and the ecclesiastical authorities; a magnificent church was built for the Blessed Virgin Mary wherein the faithful of Ecuador venerate with great devotion a statue of Our Lady, whose face was made miraculously. The artist was in the process of painting it when he found the face of the Holy Virgin miraculously formed. And Our Lady prophesied for the twentieth century, saying explicitly that during the nineteenth century and most of the twentieth century, errors would become more and more widespread in Holy Church, placing the Church in a catastrophic situation. Morals would become corrupt and the Faith would disappear. It seems impossible not to see it happening today.
“I excuse myself for continuing this account of the apparition, but she speaks of a prelate who will absolutely oppose this wave of apostasy and impiety—saving the priesthood by forming good priests. I do not say that prophecy refers to me. You may draw your own conclusions. I was stupefied when reading these lines but I cannot deny them, since they are recorded and deposited in the archives of this apparition.”
