英語の文法書でいいものはないですか？とお仕事でお付き合いのある方に訪ねたら教えてくれたのが本書である。語学というのは文系分野と思われがちだが、実は理系分野であると私は思う。英語の文法構造のメカニズムなど実に数学的で、この構築性があるから欧米人の思考の強度は強いのか、などと考えたりする。
さて、本書はイラストもところどころ入っていて、わかりやすく解説してくれているので、下手な日本語の文法書を読むよりずっと役に立つだろう。どの点がと聞かれると、初心者なので言えないが、have been doingとhave doneの違いはなるほどと膝を打つ。また、CD-ROMがついているバージョンとないバージョンがあるが、値段的にたいした差ではないので、私はCD-ROM付を購入した。本書はイギリス英語だが、アメリカ英語編もでている。どちらでもよかったのだが、出版元がイギリスの大学なので、イギリス英語のバージョンにしたまでである。
ところで、私は日本語の文法用語というのが苦手である。あの言葉のややこしさが文法を学ぶことの楽しさを苦痛にしていると考える。ならば原書で読めばいいというのは正解であった。わからないなりに、間違えながら問題を解いていると長文でも文法を意識しだすのでおもしろい。
さて、次に英語のよいテキストならびに初学者が読めそうな本があったら教えて頂きたいと思います。何かありますか？
