I tried to get a 4WD vehicle or jeep during my stay in town, but I could not get one. The principal reason is price. Even used motorcars here are surprisingly expensive. Instead, I purchased an used motorbike to get around the nearby villages, for which I paid 3,000 RM( about 100,000 yen ). I will bring it to the field tomorrow morning.
I went hunting together with Penan villagers about a week ago. We went down river by boat and then entered the jungle. Shortly nearby farmers (Kenyah people) came there and then began to cut the trees by using chainsaw. A Penan claimed that animals run away from the noisy sound. We returned back home without game.
I left KAPIT at 9 o'clock in the morning after I obtained a research permit from Resident for SIBU by an express boat. Then from SIBU I got on a bus bound for BINTULU and arrived at BINTULU at 3:30 in the evening. Transportation between major towns is comfortably smooth here in SARAWAK. BINTULU is a town located on a mouth of the KEMENA River.
