ABSTRACT

　20世紀の芸術の多くは、abstract（抽象的）なものであった。

　“That painting is so abstract I can’t tell what the subject is.”

　“The subject is the color and composition, Mr. Rockwell. It doesn’t represent anything in real life.” 　

　「あの絵はあまりに抽象的で、いったい何が言いたいのかわからない」　

　「あの絵が主張しているのは、色と構成です、ロックウェルさん。現実の生活の一面を表現しようとしているわけではありません」

　abstractは、芸術に関係ない状況においては、「抽象的」と違う意味で用いられる。
