MPS から MOS

投票によって、Mathematical Programming Society は Mathematical Optimization Society に変更になった。詳しくは MOS のホームページ をご覧いただきたい。Programming はベルリン空輸時の空軍の作戦、行動計画という意味で付けられたと言われているので、広く数理最適化という意味では Optimization の方が好ましいだろう。
今後はこれに伴って例えば Linear Programming (線形計画) も Linear Optimization (線形最適化) と名前に変わっていくだろう。SDP も SDO になるのだろうか。SDPA が SDPO, SDPARA が SDPORA になるとちょっと発音しにくい。


The results of the membership ballot concerning the change of name of MPS to "Mathematical Optimization Society" are as follows:
For: 457
Against: 127
Abstain: 38

The motion thus passes. The change will be implemented during the coming weeks.

We look forward to continued growth and vitality of the society under its new name!
