TO EMPOWER

  　動詞empowerは、「…に…する権限［能力］を与える」。やや格式的な言い方。 　

　今日のGetUpEnglishは、この表現を学習しよう。 　

　受身形で使われることが多い。

◯Practical Example  

　"As the owner of a business, Ms. Nagao is empowered to do whatever she wants to do."  

　"And she doesn’t have to be ordered around by anyone."  

　「会社の所有者として、長尾さんはやりたいことを何でもやれる権限がある」 　

　「そして、誰かに命令されることもない」

●Extra Point

　無生物を主語として、能動態で使われることもある。

　"And it gave them confidence in themselves."
