LOST in CHAOS

　As of 14th September, Japanese politics is lost in chaos. 　The ruling Liberal Democratic Party will run the election of the next party president because of the sudden resignation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

　As of noon, two persons are said to run for the election. One is the Secretary-General of LDP, Taro Aso. The other is former Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda. Both are very much famous.
　It was reported that the Minister of Finance, Fukushiro Nukaga, would run for the election, but he gave up. He mentioned that he would support Fukuda.

　Just after the Premier's announcement of his stepping down, it was believed that Aso would be the successor of Abe. However, as Fukuda indicated his intention to run for the election last night, the circumstances changed.

　Some members of the House of Representatives, who are usually called Koizumi Children, sought ways to persuade former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to run for the election again. Some experts say that the "Children" won their elections with the strong support of then Prime Minister Koizumi, but without it, it will be very difficult to make it happen again.

　They asked Koizumi to, but he said "no".

２学期の総合学習

　先週木曜日、今学期最初の総合学習、「英字新聞を読む」があった。

　接近中の台風9号への対応で…大体どこでも同じだと思うけど…授業をカットして生徒を早く下校させるかどうか、昼休み職員会議を行った。結局、午後の授業・総合学習はそのまま実施して、部活動を可能なかぎり休みにして生徒を下校させることになった。
　…準備した材料がムダにならずにすんだ。

　今回は、数日前にニュースになった史上初の女性Beefeaterを取り上げた記事を題材にした。

　総学の講座展開。僕は大体以下のようにしている。

　１．最新ニュース（当日・前日）を読む。
　これは、総学講座日（木曜日）の英字新聞、ウェブサイト（主に毎日インタラクティブ）から、ニュースを探し、ハンドアウトを作成する。生徒はほぼ初見の記事を読んで、何が書いてあるか読み取る。記事を読み、要約を作成し、それぞれ発表する。
　先週は、台風9号関連ニュースを使った。

　２．やや長いニュースを読む。
　この日は、上記のとおり、Beefeaterについての記事を使った。
　記事を生徒に渡し、グループごとに分担を決めて記事の日本語訳を作る作業になる。短いものであれば、その日の内、長いものであれば次の総学講座までの課題にする。

　３．発表
　２．で作成した日本語訳をグループごとに発表、それぞれ評価する。生徒は自分の分担場所の前後も読まないと役が出来ないので、おおよそ全てのニュースに目を通すことになる。

　1学期は講座で試用したニュースは、全て担当者ある僕が準備をした。今学期は参加者に選ばせたいと思っている。準備は本当に大変だが、楽しい（interesting）講座にしたいと思う。
