S Bush signs $20.2 billion authorization for NASA President George W. Bush has signed a bill authorizing a $20.2 billion budget for NASA in fiscal 2009, a level of spending that the White House Budget Office found excessive. The bill adds $1 billion for quicker development of the Ares/Orion spacecraft scheduled to launch in 2015 and adds nine shuttle missions to the International Space Station.
NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said he was pleased with the measure. "The major provisions of this authorization bill affirm Congress' support for the broad goals of the president's space exploration policy, including the return of American astronauts to the moon
(and) exploration of Mars and other destinations," Griffin
