この映画は、Scribner’s者の敏腕編集者であったマックス・パーキンズ（Maxell Perkins, 1884 –1947）と、トマス・ウルフ（Thomas Wolfe, 1900-38）の交流を描くいたものです。

  　本日は、ウルフとパーキンズが激しい葛藤を繰り広げたののちに完成させ、それと同時に二人が別れることになった、ウルフの二番目の長篇Of Time and the River(1935)から、これぞウルフというフレーズをご紹介します。

 　　Man's youth is a wonderful thing: It is so full of anguish and of magic and he never comes to know it as it is, until it has gone from him forever.
