TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF SOMETHING

　「何かの底に行き着く」（to get to the bottom of something）のであれば、「努力して何かを理解する、知る」ことができるし、「事の真実を知ること」ができる。to get to the bottom of…は、「……の真相をきわめる、突き止める」という感じ。

○Practical Example

　"Why do you think Setsuko broke up with Makoto?"

　"I don't know. But I'm going get to the bottom of it and find out."

　「どうして節子は真と別れたんだと思う？」

　「わからない。でも、どうなっているのか、よく調べてみる」

●Extra Point 　

　to look into…（……を調査[吟味]する、 調べる）も、to get to the bottom of…ほど「網羅的な」調査をする感じはないが、似たような意味で使われる。

◎Extra Example

　"I'm going to look into the situation and find out why Setsuko broke up with Makoto."

　"You'll never get to the bottom of it. They won't tell you why."

　「どうして節子は真と別れたのか、ちょっと調べて事の真相を知りたい」

　「そんなのわかるはずないよ。節子も真もどうして別れたか教えてくれないんだから」
