Large crowds waved Black Lives Matter posters, chanting "No justice, no peace. Fuck these racist ass police!" as they marched from Foley Square up through Lower Manhattan. The protests appeared peaceful as police stood idly by with little interference. The demonstrations reportedly began earlier than scheduled in order to dodge an 8 p.m. curfew announced by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Violent incidents from previous demonstrations have been recorded, and Manhattan storefronts were reeling on Tuesday morning from nighttime looting that left retail outlets in tatters.
