　日産自動車と米航空宇宙局（NASA）は2015年1月8日（米国時間）、自動運転車の開発に関する5年間の提携を発表した（写真1）。両者は自動走行システムや自動運転車のユーザーインターフェース、自動運転車の開発に必要となるデータ分析アプリケーションなどを共同で開発する。

　日産のカルロス・ゴーン社長兼CEO（最高経営責任者）は以前から、自動運転車を2020年までに実用化することを目標として掲げている。今回の提携はそれを加速するものとなる。日産が米国シリコンバレーに置く「シリコンバレー・リサーチ・センター」の研究者と、同じくシリコンバレーに位置するNASAの「エイムズ・リサーチ・センター」の研究者が連携。日産製の電気自動車（写真2）をNASAエイムズ・リサーチ・センターに持ち込んで自動運転車の検証などを行う。

　本研究の特徴は、中央のコントロールセンターの指示に従って人間だけでなく貨物などを輸送する自動運転車の研究開発も実施する点だ。この技術は、NASAのミッション・コントロール・センターからの指示を受けて火星などの惑星で活動する惑星探査車（Rober）の開発に役に立つという。

　日産のゴーン社長兼CEOはプレスリリースで「宇宙に向き合っているNASAと地球に向き合っている日産が同じ課題を抱えていたことが両者を結びつけた」とし、「この提携によって日産の安全で信頼できる自動運転技術の開発が加速し、自動運転車を2016年から2020年の間までに消費者に届けるという目標に一歩近づくようになる」と述べている。

　【パリ共同】フランス週刊紙銃撃事件をめぐり、パリの北東とパリ東部で９日、人質を取り立てこもる事件が相次いで発生した。内務省当局者は、パリ北東の立てこもり犯は逃走中の事件の容疑者兄弟と確認した。東部の実行犯は兄弟を逃すよう要求したと伝えられ、捜査当局は二つの人質事件が連動している可能性が高いと判断、両現場に強行突入した。

　フランス紙ルモンド（電子版）は容疑者計３人が死亡したと伝えた。複数の人質が解放されたが、パリ東部の現場で４人が死亡したと複数のメディアが報じた。７日発生した事件は３日目にして急展開した。
