ベトナム フォウ Vietnamese Pho(rice noodles)

ちょっと一休み

上野アメ横はアジアンな熱気と雰囲気が
感じられて私の好きな場所です。
中でもアメ横センタービルの地下１階は
とても日本とは思えません。
中国系　韓国系の食材店が中心なので
何に使うのか　どのように調理するのか
解らないような食材が沢山並んでいて
見るだけでも楽しい所です。
珍しいところでは　皮むきたてカエル
冷凍うさぎ　ありとあらゆるの豚の内蔵
名前も解らない魚等........
そこで手に入れたベトナムのフォウが
今日のお昼です。
台湾のビーフンとまた違った食感の麺で
ビーフンと共にたまに無性に食べたくなる麺です。

基本スープレシピ
コンソメ＋かつお・こんぶのだし汁＋オレガノ＋
バジル＋タバスコ（これが重要）

Ame-Yoko area in Ueno is full of Asian excitement
and atmosphere.
So, I love visiting there.
Above all, the basement floor beneath Ame-Yoko
Center Building doesn't look like Japan at all.
Asian ingredients are well stocked there,
especially, Chinese and Korean one.
About some of them, I have no idea what to use for
or how to cook them.
....... just skinned bullfrogs, frozen hares,
all kinds of guts of pigs, fish I don't know
the name of .........
I enjoy enough just looking around.
Today's lunch is Vietnamese noodles I got there.
Pho has texture somewhat different from Taiwanese one.
Sometimes I am dying to eat them.

Our recipe of basic soup is as follows,
a couple of cubes of consomme, 3 cups of stock
from dried bonito and seaweed(Kombu)
seasoning(Oregano, Basil, Pepper, you name it)
and Tabasco(This is a must ! )

自家製はがき　その５（木版画）woodblock

版画の収入だけで賄える版画家は国内でも
数える位少ないと思います。
版画家の家計簿は非常に厳しいものです。
私も同様です。
故に多くの作家は他に収入の道を
得なければなりません。
美術や版画を教える等　教育関係に
携わる方が多いようです。
私はスクリーン印刷を中心にそのデザインや
データ制作等の工房を開いています。
この仕事も自分では気に入っている仕事です。
いずれご紹介してゆきます。

Few Hanga artists are able to make a living
only by the sales of Hanga.
Most of the artists have a really hard time
making ends meet. So have I.
Therefore,they have to get another source of income.
It seems that many of them have got a teaching job,
giving lessons in Hanga-making, teaching fine art etc...
I've run a small studio where I do mainly printing work
by the silkscreen technique, plus, work-related desings
and the data-taking.
I like these works, too.
Chances are that I'll talk about it before long.

市議さんから手打ちうどんをいただきました。
この辺りの農家では何かにつけてよくうどんを
打つようです。腰があって腹持ちのいい大変
おいしいうどんです。（homemade noodles
by the neighboring councilor himself)

以前池田満寿夫氏も書いていましたが
市場に流通した作品の市販価格がその後
値上がりしても　その値上がり分は
作家にはまったく反映されません。
少しでも　作家に還元すべきだと
池田氏は訴えていました。
難しい問題ですが　
そのような経験がないのですが
同感できる話ではあります。
逆に値下がりの場合はどうなって
いるのだろうという　思いがあります......
幸いにこれも経験がありません。

Mr. Ikeda Masuo wrote that even if
the price of a work which was already
in the marketplace was up,
the margin didn't go to the artist at all.
Even a little, it should have been returned
to him or her.
This is difficult problem.
I haven't had such an experience.
I understand what he felt, though.
On the contrary, what becomes of the case
that the price is down?
Fortunately, I haven't had this experience either.

自家製はがき　その４（木版画）(woodblock)

次に画廊などで個展を開催する場合ですが
ほぼ２つのケースがあります。
自分で会場を借りてする場合は会場費など
すべての費用は自己負担ですが　売れた時は
１００％作家に入ることが多いです。
画廊が企画して開いてくれる時は　会場費
案内状等は画廊が負担してくれますが
売り上げの５０％前後を払うことが多いようです。
企画展はそのケースによって　画廊によって
かなり内容に差があります。
またデパートなどの企画展の場合もそれぞれに
異なった規約があります。

As for holding an exhibit,
roughly speaking, there are two cases.
One, when an artist holds a show
at all his or her cost,
(for example, rent for a gallery, advertising,
postcards, shipping and so on)
most of the sales go to the artist.
The other, when a gallery produces an exhibit,
the cost above is on the gallery.
It depends on the case, around a half of sales
goes to the gallery.
In the case holding at a department store,
there is different convention in each store.

汁ビーフン Soup Rice-vermicelli

味気ない話が続いたので今日は一服して
麺の話です。
今日のお昼は台湾の新竹汁ビーフンです。
新竹ブランドの中でも一番細い麺で　私の知る限り
世界で最も細いのではないかと思います。
日本のそーめんよりも　イタイアのバーミセリ
よりもかなり細く　しかも煮くずれたり
溶けたりしません。驚異的です。
優れておいしい麺です。

You might begin to feel bored with my
" economic" matters.
So this time, I'll take a break.
Yes, " All That Food"
Today's lunch is Taiwanese Rice-vermicelli,
(Shinchiku-brand),
which may be the thinnest noodls in the
world as log as I know of.
It's like a hair, so far thinner than Japanese
Sohmen or Italian vermicelli,
nevertheless, they surprisingly keep their
shape after being long simmered.
Tremendous noodles!

自家製はがき　その３

更新一日遅れました。（謝）
決めた値は市販価格として作品と共に
発表します。
自分で売った場合は１００％入りますが
画廊などに委託して売れた場合
５０％前後が作家取り分になることが多いです。
画廊に買い取ってもらう場合は
作家によって　またその取引ケースごとに
違うので一概には言えません。
（多くは５０％以下であるのは確実ですが........）

The fixed price is shown with the work as
the price for sale.
When I sold it myself, I get 100% of the price.
In the case of consigning it to a gallery,
I get 50% of it.
If the gallery purchases it, -case by case,
of course- in most of the cases, I get less 50%.......

自家製はがき　その２

版画価格決定の基準は特にありません。
完成した作品を見て 大きさ等から
私ならいくらだったら買うかなとか
今ならどれくらいで売れるか
あるいは過去にたくさん売れた作品も
参考に入れて決めることが多いです。
相方にもたまに聞きますが　いつも
「もっと高くしてもいいんじゃない？」
という返事が多いです。

There is no special standard price of Hanga.
I've determined it based on various factors.
The finish of the work, the size,
if I were a customer, how much I would
pay for it at most and so on.
I sometimes refer to own my works sold well
in the past.
Occasionally, I ask my partner for advice.
" Why don't you make it a bit higher? "
she mostly answers.

都内の和歌山ラーメン店で昼食￥５５０

これからお話するのは私が実際に経験している事
そして行っている事を中心としていますが
ほぼ他の多くの中堅作家にも共通していると
思います。
まず価格は誰が決めるのか.....（大事な事です）
現役作家の中で超特級大作家さんは
解りませんが　多くは自分で決めているのでは
ないでしょうか。
私も自分で決めています。


ペクチン質たっぷりで結構なお味でした。

I'm talking about what I' ve actually experienced
and what I currently do.
Most other Hanga artists have many in common
with me, I believe.
First of all, about who sets prices of Hanga.......
Most of the artists, aside from a few super
famous ones,
probably decide them themselves.
So do I.

自家製はがき
今回から版画家の経済事情を掲載してゆきますが
画像は私の昼食など　内容と関係ないものを
いろいろ紹介していきます。


２０歳の頃から版画制作を始めて　何を描こうか
悩んだり　描けなくて困った事は「幸か」「不幸か」
１度もありません。なぜ幸か不幸か.........
大きな問題は描く事とそれによる収入のバランスが
とてつもなく悪いからです。
制作への情熱と共に経済闘争の体力が絶対に必要で
その両立は困難を極めます。
相方がそばで大きくうなずいています。

But the photos are everyday's lunch or something.

At age 20, I started hanga-making.
Luckily or unluckily, I've never been unable to draw
nor been troubled over what I should draw.
The biggest problem is about the balance of producing
Hanga and my income that follows producing.
Unfortunately, it is extremely imbalanced.
The strength to face the economic struggle
as well as the passion for producing is indispensable
requisits.
Balancing both of them is incredibly difficult.
My partner is nodding her head next to me.

味噌がゆ Miso(soybeans paste) gruel

寒い朝は卵を落とした熱々の味噌がゆが一番です。
子供の頃はご飯にみそ汁をかけて　削り節を
のせた「猫まんま」を猫と一緒に食べました。
もちろん器は別ですが。
私も猫も結構満足していたように思います。
５０年も前の話です。古っ！

次回から「版画家の経済事情」というお話を
１０数回に渡って掲載してゆきます。

In the cold morning, steaming miso gruel
containing a poached egg is the best
for breakfast.
When I was a child, with my cat, I would
eat so-calld " cat meal" (poures miso soup
and puts dried bonito flakes onto rice)
Even such a simple diet we were satisfied.
Anyway, it was a half century ago.
What a old story !

From next time, over 10 times or so,

この作品はダイナッミクな動きと　箔の魅力を
出す事を目的として制作しました。
絵を魅力あるものにするため　また見る人の心に
より共鳴できる手段として　画面の中の「動き」は
私の作品の重要な要素です。

In this work, I wanted to depict "dynamic movement"
and to show a fascination of metal leaf.
In order to make my work more appealing,
movement in the picture is a significant factor.

梅の花 Ume Blossoms

庭の梅が咲きました。今年はやはり早いようです。
この梅は６月になると種の小さい　実の厚い
見事な果実になります。
そして我が家の美味しい梅干しになります。


２年物の梅干しです。
Ume Pickles home-made two years ago.

Ume(Japanese plum)blossums in the backyard
are in full bloom earlier than usual.
In June, this Ume tree bears very good
Ume fruits whose seeds are small,
therefore pulp of fruit is ample.
Eventually these fruits are going to be
our favorite Umeboshi (Ume Pickles)

野菜 Vegetables

すぐ近くの市会議員さんが作った野菜を
いただきんました。
たくさんあるので庭に穴を掘って保存して
おきます。
近隣の家々は以前は専業農家が多かったのですが
今は自分たちが食べる分だけ作っています。
元々プロですから見事においしい野菜です。
でもプロだったからどうしても作り過ぎて
しまうようです。お陰で我が家がお相伴に
あずかります。

A neighboring councilor sometimes kindly
brings many vegetables to us.
Making a hole in the backyard, we keep
them in it.
Most of the neighbors around here used
be full-time farmers.
Nowadays, they make vegetables for themselves.
As proffetional farmers orignally,
they make really good produce,
however, they make it much more than
they consume.
Thanks to them, we can have a share in
their harvest.


すっかり葉を落とした泉福寺の銀杏

ゴミ（２） Gomi (2)

我が家の愛猫ゴミが　機嫌のいい時にだけ
家族にだけ見せてくれる得意のポーズです。
短い足が愛嬌ですが...........
私達は「先割れナメクジ」と呼んでいます。

Our beloved cat " Gomi " strikes this pose
only when in a good mood and shows it
only to the family members.
Her short legs are charming.
We call her then
"two-pronged slug"
