正月飾り New Year's decorations

縄で編んだ伊勢エビ
本物の昆布と橙　干し柿
rice strow-braided spiny lobster
real dried seaweed, dried persimon
and DaiDai-orange.

今年のお飾りは御殿場の農家の方が作ったものを
いただきました。
１m３０cmもある手作りの立派なものです。
工芸品のようです。
五穀豊穣、無病息災、子孫繁栄を祈願して
作るのだと思います。
感謝と祈りの気持ちそのものです。

This is a present from a farmer in Gotemba,
Shizuoka Pref.,
which is as much as 1m30cm in length,
beautifully handmade, like craftwork.
I think farmers make them praying for fertility,
good health and children's prosperity.
It really looks like feelings of Gratitude
and Prayer.

この作品は自分では気に入った仕上がりなのですが
前回の「Septmber Moon」と違って
あまり人気がありません。
この作品はちょっと寂しすぎるのでしょうか。
長い事制作を続けていて未だに解らないことです。

As opposite to " September Moon",
this was not so popular.
I like the finish of it though.
This work looks too lonely.......?
Although I've been print-making a long time,
I don't know why, myself.

イメージを暖めて　３～４点の構成を同時に練り
それぞれ原画を完成させ　版にして刷り上げる。
同じ時期に同じように制作するのですが
時にその内の１点が妙に多くの人に気に入って
もらえる事があります。
アメリカでも日本でも......
この作品は幸せな作品のひとつです。

Nursing several ideas at once,
elaborating composition, completing drafts each
and making screening frames,
finally I print them up.
Despite producing in the same way and period,
sometimes, for some reason,
one of them captures far more attention
than the rest of them
in America as well as in Japan.
This work is such a happy one.

クリスマス Christmas

子供の頃のクリスマスは光り輝いていました。
貧しかったこともあって　サンタクロースと
ケーキは夢そのものでした。
長じて　仏教徒でもなくキリスト者でもなく
強いて言えば　自然の中に八百万の神を
感じている今日この頃
今年のクリスマスは子供たちは自立して
相方と二人　それでも小さなケーキを
いただいている不思議の国日本　の我が家です。

When I was a child, Christmas was shining.
As I was poor, Santa Claus and Christmas cake
were just a dream literally.
Grown up, I'm not a Buddhist nor a Christian,
but I see gods in everything surrounding us.
On this year's Christmas Eve, our children
already became independent and are away
from home, nevertheless we prepared a typical
but small Christmas cake just for two of us.
Mysterious Christmas, in mysterious country-
" Japan ".

泉福寺（２） Sempuku-ji (2)

私　しょっちゅう散歩ばかりしているように
思われそうですが　実際しています。
車がほとんど通らず　木が多く鳥も沢山鳴いていて
心落ち着く道が近くにあるからです。
泉福寺さんです。
ご住職はものの本によると　D・Hロレンスの
研究家でもあるとの事
お会いしたことはありませんが　
益々魅力的な界隈です。



You may think I take a walk all the time.
Yes, I do,
as the course for a stroll is nice and quiet.
Cars rarely pass, many trees grow
and verious birds are singing
in the vicinity of Sempuku-ji.
I read somewhere that the priest is
a D.H., Lawrence scholar as well.
I've never met him, but the temple
is getting more and more attractive for me.

ある日の夕食 Dinner one day

私のブログは食いしん坊のせいか　どうしても
食べ物草子のようになってしまいます。
厚切りの食パンの真ん中をくり抜いて　そこへ
卵を落として焼きます。これがまたおいしい！
自家製手作りの焼き鳥とシチュー　統一の
とれていない組み合わせは 我が家の特徴です。
ごちそうさま。

The title of my blog shoud be changed for
" All That Food " as I'm a greedy eater.
Making a hole in the center of bread sliced
as thick as 5cm, put an egg in it and bake.
That's great !

多くの人が想う事かも知れませんが
私も「あーぁ　だめだ！」と　
深く嘆く事が多々あります。
そんな時は心の中で一人踊ります。

Most of the people may grieve hopelessly,
So do I, sometimes.
Then, I dance alone in my heart.

飛騨のりんご Apples from Hida

最近お近付きになった版画家のKさんから
送っていただいたリンゴです。
香りが良くて　甘くて　まるでお菓子のようです。
大変美味しいリンゴでした。
でも　昔食べた「農林１号」や「旭」など
がんこなリンゴも懐かしいです。

These apples were gifted by a print work artist
I' ve got acquainted with recently.
Being fragrant, sweet like sweets,
they were very delicious.
But I miss sour ones like "Norin #1" or "Asahi"
I ate a long time ago.

泉福寺(1) Sempuku-ji (1)

荒川の散歩コースの途中に泉福寺という
古いお寺があります。
開基は８世紀、本尊は１３世紀の阿弥陀さまです。
現在の建物群は１部江戸期が残っている程度ですが
いにしえを偲ばせる深い陰影が魅力です。



In the course of my walk along the Arakawa riv.
there is an old temple named Sempuku-ji.
It was founded in the eighth century,
and is sacred to a wooden Amitabha made in
the 13th century.
Due to warfire or something, there is only part
of the temple complex in Edo era left.
But its deep shade reminiscent of ancient days
always fascinetes me.

子供はすぐ走ります。飛び跳ねます。
すぐ泣きます。笑います。
大人になるための　優れた準備体操なのでしょう。

Children easily run, jump, cry and laugh.
They may go through a good warm-up
to be grown-ups.

卵絵 Pictures on eggshells

我が家では生卵とゆで卵を区別するため
しるしや絵を書きます。ゆで卵に書きます。
この日は家人が居なくて夜ビールをやりながら　
私が絵を描きました。気ままに書き出したら　
おもしろくて釈迦風の人やその弟子風　
鬼を書き込みました。
もちろん書いた後はおつまみでいただきました。

We keep boild eggs marked to tell them
from raw ones.
One night when I was alone,
I drew them over beer.
I gradually warmed up to depicting
Buddha, his disciple and a demon.
After that I ate them with beer, of course.

石仏 Guardian Diety

散歩の途中　近くのお寺の石仏を見ながら
ふっと思いました。
愛国心というもの　ヘソみたいな物かと...
生まれながら体の真ん中に付いていて　
でも　いじくりすぎると痛くなり
突出すると　ちと　みっともない。
石仏のどこか　とぼけたお顔は
いろいろな思いを　起こさせてくれます。

Having a stroll, I saw a guardian diety
on the grounds of a temple and hit on
an idea.
Patriotism might be a kind of navel.
It is on the center of your body naturally,
It hurts, if you finger it too much,
It is not good looking, if it stands out.

When I look at its gentle face
verious thoughts occur to me.
It seems to whisper "Let it be"

『美しい国』という言葉は
自分たちが言うのではなく
他の国の人から言われたいと　どなたかが
書いていましたが　まったく同感ですね。

Someone writes, I want my country
to be called "Beautiful Country"
by other countries' people,
not by ourselves. I hope so.

富士山 Mt. Fuji

夕暮れの富士

富士を見る度『おー！　富士山だ』と
妙に感動します。
この地では気候や大気の汚れで
めったに見られないこともありますが
やはり　存在感のある美しさに目を奪われます。

「Wow look at Fuji-san !」
Everytime I see Mt. Fuji, it moves me
for some reason.
From here, we can rarely see it
due to air pollution or something.
The beauty and dominating presence
is eye-grabbing after all.

最初からテーマを決めて制作にかかる場合と
何気なく浮かんだアイデアを　形になるまで
暖めて　作品に仕上げる場合があります。
この作品は後者の例です。

Sometimes, I start to produce my work
with a certain plan or intention.
Othertimes, I nurse a casual idea in my
mind waiting to become a clear image.
This is the latter example.
