卯年　９色　２２５０通し　中金箔使用
The year of the Hare, printed 2250times for 9colors,usedChukin-leaf
この年は　バックの総ベタと女性の服の
２ヶ所をグラデーションで刷っています。

普通の単色１色を２５０枚刷る時間は　約１時間とちょっと
グラデーションですと　２時間はかかります。

乾き待ちを入れて１日４色刷るのが精一杯です。
I used Gradation skill for two parts in this,the background and the girl’s dress.
It takes more than an hour to print 250cards for single color, while in the case of
Gradation, it takes two hours.

The time for drying every color is needed, so printing four colors a day is my utmost.



辰年　８色　２０００通し　銀箔と中金箔使用

この年は２１世紀になったので年号は西暦を使いました。

箔を２種類貼っています！　やはり　Millennium記念ですかね。

特に銀箔は「梨地」の技法（箔を細かく散らす方法）で
我ながらかなり凝っています。

Turning the 21st century I used the dominical year.
And I used two different leaves for “a millennium anniversary”
I especially adopted “ Pearskin finish” (skill of densely sprinkling of leaf powder)
for silver leaf. Apparently I was into leafing.

I’m really happy to be born and live in Japan!!
「この世で最後に食べるとしたら　何が食べたいか」と言われたら
私はこれかもしれません。
“The Last Supper” might be “this”, if you ask me.

「グラデーション」表現は　現在ではいろいろな
パソコンソフトでいとも簡単に非常に綺麗に作ることが出来ますが
シルクスクリーン版画で刷る場合はかなり面倒なプロセスが必要です。

２色あるいは３色のインクをスキージを使って版面上で混ぜ合わせます。
（この辺りはリトグラフ版画と同じです）
手際良く速やかに作業しないと　
とっ散らかって取り返しのつかない状態になります。
後日その様子を　巧く出来る方法と共に掲載したいと思います。

As for “Gradation”, you can easily and beautifully make it using PC software
these days.
But it requires difficult skill when you print by silkscreen method.
You have to mix two or three colors using a squeeze on a screen frame.
If you don’t operate it with brisk efficiency, it can be hopelessly messy.
I save this story for another day.

　


丑年　９色　２２５０通し　親和箔　暗緑色使用

前年までの４回は製版技術の試みが中心でしたが
この年から絵の内容を物語的な世界の表現の実験に変えていきました。

I had taken skill-oriented tries until then, but I changed my theme into a picture itself
that year. I attempted to make an image like story- telling.

この頃になるとだいぶグラデーション刷りも慣れてきました。
I got used to printing “Gradation” by that time.

引き続き過去に制作した年賀状のお話


亥年　８色　２０００通し　銅箔を使用
The year of the Boar, printed 2000times for 8 colors, used copper leaf
製版に関する費用は先方が負担してくれるので
いろいろな技術を試せるのがいいところです。

この年の場合は　我が家に生えている「南天」の葉を
コピー器でプリントアウトしたものに手を加えて　ポジフィルムにし
猪の親子の図柄を加え　写真製版したものです。
The costs for screening frames were on the ordering company, so I was able to
try various techniques.
I add nandina leaves in our garden to the picture of swine family
by photo-chemical method.



子年　８色　２０００通し　中金箔を使用
The year of the Rat, impressed 2000times for 8 colors, used Chukin (silver)leaf.
この年から　グラデーションを取り入れました。
グラデーションを２５０枚同じ様に綺麗に仕上げるのは
並大抵ではありません。

しかしこのお陰で私の刷り技術はかなり上がったように思います。

It is very difficult to finish 250 cards of gradation in the same way.
But thanks to it, I feel my printing skill improved.





「はたはた」の煮付け

今年は大きめのはたはたが安くて卵も沢山入っていて美味しいです。
猫達も大喜びです。

（相方談　煮くずれないように調理するのが大変なんだ！）

This year,lager sandfish with eggs are available at reasonable price.
How tasty! Cats and we are very delighted to eat them.

年賀状制作 その１New Year’s Card Making 1

我が家の手刷り版画による年賀状は
相方と所帯を持った年から始まりました。
３５年前！です。

初めのうちは銅版画で（その頃は銅版作品を専門に制作していました）
２０年程前からは　シルクスクリーン版画で作ってきました。

もっぱら自宅用でしたが
１５年前に懇意にしている製版会社から年賀状制作の依頼があって
干支を絵柄に１２支すべてを毎年作ることになりました。

手刷りシルク版画で２５０枚！

かなりきつい仕事でしたが　いろいろな技法を試せるチャンスでも
ありましたので　引き受ける事にしました。

今日からしばらくその年賀状をご紹介します。
I started making New Year’s cards at the same time I got married 35 years ago.
At first I made them by Intaglio, since I had produced Hangas by that method then.
And I shifted my method to Silkscreen 20 years ago.

I have made the cards mostly for family use.
But I received an order from a plate- making company I was on familiar terms with
15 years ago.
Their request was to feature the Oriental Zodiac sign of the year, so 12 different animals were supposed to be designed in 12 years. 250 cards every year!
It was tough work but a good opportunity to try out various techniques.
I’ll show these post cards for time being



最初の年　酉年　６色（社名を入れて）１５００通し

埴輪のニワトリをモチーフに　青貝箔を使っています。
（１枚１枚箔を貼りました！）
The first year is the year of the Rooster. I impressed 1500 times for 6 colors.
It is a clay figure. I applied blue shell leaf sheet by sheet.


戌年　７色　１７５０通し

民芸玩具の犬をモチーフに　純和風を試みてみたものです。
箔は親和箔　中色　もちろん手貼りです。
The year of the Dog, 1750 times for 7 colors
Folk craft dog. I aimed at authentic Japanese style.


箔を２５０枚貼るのは　それはもう大変な作業でした。
労働と報酬のバランスが悪いなんてものではありません。
請け負ったことを後悔しましたが　しかし箔を使う事は
自分で決めた事なので後には引けません。

それに箔の性質を知るためにも
貼る技術を磨くためにもなるので結局最後まで続けました。

Applying 250sheets of leaf was tough work far beyond the payment.
I regretted a bit having took the order .
But It's me who decided to apply leaf, so there was no turning back.
To know the nature of leaf and to improve my leafing skill I kept on doing.

版画家のお友達 歯科医師編（４５）Spcial Column (45)

「歯」って　すごく身近なものなのですが
私は痛くならない限り　
普段はほとんど見過ごしている事が多いです。

そんな私が　ビクッとする画像と共に
今日はNORIKO先生のお話です。


「自分の歯とは？」
　　「自分の歯が何本あるか正確に答えられますか？」と
　　質問されたらどうでしょう。
　　自分の口の中の事ですから、
　　鏡でも見て数えればわかることだろうと思っていましたが、
　　意外にそうではありませんでした。
　　「自分の歯」の判定基準が歯科関係者と患者さんとで違うためです。

1～６で「自分の歯」はどれでしょうか。


　　1：全く治療していない歯
　　2：部分的に詰め物（被せもの）をしている歯
　　3：歯を全部覆う冠が被っている歯
　　　（下の画像の５のブリッジの橋げたの部分と同じ）


　　4：差し歯



　　5：ブリッジの橋げたの部分
　　6：ブリッジの橋の部分

1～5が自分の歯です。
1,2は多分どなたもお分かりだと思いますが、
3,4,5は自分の歯として数えない方が多いです。
3は歯に冠を被せますので、歯自体は残っています。
4は歯の頭の部分はなくても、根は残っていますので、
　歯としては残存しています。
5は３と同じで歯に冠を被せます。
6は歯がないところに完全な人工物を入れるので自分の歯ではありません。

いかがでしょうか、もう一度正確に自分の歯の数を確認されてみては。
数が増えた方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか？

（８０２０という言葉がありますが　ご存知でしょうか？
８０歳で歯が２０本残っている　いや残そうというアピールです。
私はもうだめです.....　kei ）


小樽海岸冬景色　

「闇鍋」話し その２Yami-Nabe2

前回薄味醤油だしで煮られた　ピザが出てきましたが
さしずめ闇鍋でなければ絶対味わえない物と思います。
（決してまずくはありません....ただ　もう一度と言われると....）

食べられるものなら　何でもというルールですが
大失敗もありました。

次のは　2005年に開催した「闇鍋内容物」です。

南部せんべい・たこ焼き・キムチ・餃子・さきイカ・
グミ（お菓子の）・メロンパン・丸ごと越前ガニ　その他

この中の何が大失敗の原因かお判りでしょうか....

グミとメロンパンです。
大体醤油味との組み合わせ自体　ぶっ飛んだ物ですが
添加物としての「人工香料」が最悪の味にしてしまいました。

溶け出したグミとメロンパンからの香料が
鍋全部を支配して　まったく食べられませんでした。
（丸ごと越前ガニも.....）

もったいない派相方もさすがに諦めて　すべて捨ててしまいました...
人工香料恐るべし　です。

もしこれから闇鍋をやってみようとお考えの方は
この点を留意されるといいと思います。


Regarding ingredients for Yami-Nabe, anything edible is O.K.

But we made a terrible blunder in 2005.
Actually, Gummi candies and Melon-bread (kind of pastry) were included in various ingredients.
Firstly, sweets and soy sauce-based soup themselves make an outrageous combination (that of pizza and the soup was not so bad though).
And besides,artificial flavors out of Gummi and Melon bread overwhelmed the other tastes and spoiled all the contents including a big whole Echizen-crab…Alas!

Even my partner, notorious as Mottainai-oriented person, had to give up after all.
If you try a Yami-Nabe, be careful about flavor additives


「真昼の闇鍋」Noonday Yami-Nabe
２００６年５月のバーベキュウに作った闇鍋です。
This is the one we made at barbeque party in May 2006.

詳しい記録が残っていないのですが
（種類が多くて書ききれなかった）
画像から見ると　丸ごと鳥一羽・玉子モツ・ミニトマト・
納豆　その他

この時は大変美味しくできて！　最後にインスタントラーメンを
入れて　総勢１５人程で全部たいらげたように記憶しています。

と言う訳で　我が家の「奇祭」闇鍋のお話でした。


Whole chicken, giblets, petty tomatoes, natto and so on in it.
At that time, it was very good.
Adding noodles to it, we, about 15 members, ate up all in the pot.

「闇鍋」話しYami-Nabe 1

昨年の暮れの　「地獄の食事録」中で
「闇鍋」のお話をしましたが　今回はその続きです。

「闇鍋」の　そもそもの起源は

１　戦後の闇市でアメリカ軍キャンプから出された
　　残飯（ほとんど生ゴミ状態）を鍋で煮込んで売っていたところから言われた。

２　戦中・戦後の学生寮などで　学生達が食べ物を持ち寄り
　　誰が何を持って来たか判らない様に　電気を消して
　　鍋にぶち込み　皆で食べるという　
　　最初は貧しさから　その内遊びとして始められた。

というような説があります。

それを再現してみようと　私が言い出したのが
我が家の闇鍋の始まりです。


これは２００６年のお正月にやった鍋

ルールは　
必ず食べられるもの・食べられるならなんでも・アイデァ次第

我が家ではだし汁（薄味醤油）を用意しました。

総勢１０人ほどが一人一品持ち寄って　
私が鍋奉行になって一応食品チェックをします。

上の画像は全部入れ終わって蓋を開けた瞬間です。
（この時　私以外は誰も何が入っているか　知りません）

一番上に見えるのは丸ごとピザです。
他には　焼きそば用麺・韓国のトック・生イクラ・カキピー・干しえび・温泉卵・
昆布を細長く切ってお下げ髪風に編み上げたもの（私作）など

細かい画像が無いのが残念ですが
この時はまずまず何とか食べられる鍋になりました。

とんでもないものや　意外な組み合わせ
何が入っているのか判らないと言う　期待感と恐怖と楽しみ...
闇鍋の醍醐味です。　　　つづく
I talked about Yami-nabe (One-Pot in the Dark)on the blog on Dec 27 ‘08
This is the one in 2006.
A whole pizza (Luckily, its diameter was a little shorter than that of the pot!), noodle, Korean rice cakes, salmon roe, hot rice cracker, peanuts, dried shrimps, poached eggs, braids made of see weed (looked like real hair!) etc. in it.
The taste was not bad.

An odd choice and a surprising combination…
Yami-Nabe gives us a great thrill of expectation and fear, as we don’t know what are in the pot and what becomes of the taste.

いただいた年賀状Various New Year’s cards

毎年１７０通ほどの年賀状をいただくのですが
最近はやはりパソコンで作ったものが多いようです。

パソコン制作の場合はどの葉書も非常に仕上がりが
綺麗なので　逆に皆同じ様に見えてしまうのが残念です。

パソコンソフトのひな型やサンプルを使わずに
独自の創作やユニークなアイデアで仕上げたものが
やはり強く印象に残りました。

その中からごく一部をご紹介します。
I receive about 170 New Year’s cards every year.
Many people make them utilizing computers these days.
The finish is beautiful, however, they sometimes look in the same way.
But there are some impressive cards in them, which are made by the creators’ own ideas without software templates.
Let me introduce two of them.


どちらもデザイン・グラフィック系の専門の方です。
パソコンを使ってプリントアウトしていますが
さすがにクオリティーの高さを感じます。
Both are works by specialists related to graphics or designs.
Printed through PCs, each shows its excellent quality.

次のは小学校４年生のゴム版です。
The next work is a rubber plate Hanga by a girl in the 4th grade.


楽しそうに作っている感じが　いいですね。
微笑ましくて　見ている方も元気が出てくるようです。
Her pleasant feeling cheers us up.

次は版画のプロの方の葉書です。
The followings are cards by pros.


木版画　官製はがきに直に刷ってあります。
鋭い刀の使い方はもちろん　力強い絵はすごいです。

どちらも銅版画　版画専用の紙に刷ってあります。
左はメゾチィント　右は１版多色刷りの銅版

年賀状はともすると　めんどくさいものの
代表のように言われがちですが
年に一回の「創作を楽しむチャンス」でもありますので
私としては多いに勧めたいところです。

Making New Year’s cards is kind of tiresome.
But it is once in a year opportunity, I encourage all of you to enjoy creation.

明けましておめでとうございますA Happy New Year

今年の年賀状のテーマは
「春の海　ひねもす　のたりのたりかな」（蕪村）を
イメージして作りました。
画中の女性はさしずめ「のたり姫」というところでしょうか。

世界各地で悲惨な戦争が絶える事無く起きて
先行きの見透視がつかない不安は
なさけなくも毎年のことのようです。

世界中のすべての人々が　一斉にゆったりと眠れる日
そして一斉に笑える日がいつか来てほしいものです。

では　今年もよろしくお願いいたします。

The theme of this New Year’s card is based on one of Buson’s Haikus.
“Haru no umi hinemosu notari notari kana”
(Spring sea, peaceful all day, a swell of the ocean is…sorry for poor translation)
The girl is as we would say “ Notari (peaceful or leisurely) Princess”

It is a pity that wars prevail here and there in the world and we always
face an uncertain future.
I wish all the people in the world could sleep in peace and laugh in chorus.
