More than vs Greater than and Less than vs Fewer than (GMAT PILL)
"For words that are structurally positioned such that a comparison is made between the level of / degree of / number of something, use option #3: GREATER/LESS than."
My popularity is more than his. (wrong)
My popularity is greater than his.
I have more than five wives.
I have greater than five wives. (wrong)
I work for more than 8 hours a day.
I work for greater than 8 hours a day. (wrong)
The number of oranges is more than the number of lemons. (wrong)
The number of oranges is greater than the number of lemons.
可算名詞はmore/fewer
不可算名詞はmore/less
"level, degree, number of something"を比較している時はgreater/less
There were more people than I could count.(単に数を述べていて、人の数同士を比較していない)
The thickness of the film is more than 1 mm.
The thickness of the film is greater than the thickness of human hair.(比較している)
