カボチャの彫刻は、今やアイスランドで人気になっています。



Carving pumpkins for Hallowe’en is a growing trend in Iceland. RÚV reports that pumpkins are currently sold out in grocery stores around the country.

Though Hallowe’en is not traditionally celebrated in Iceland, more and more locals are partaking in North American traditions to mark the holiday, including carving jack-o’-lanterns. Sævar Óli Ólafsson, chief buyer at Samkaup has notice the trend. “We have doubled our sales [of pumpkins] compared to last year,” he stated.

Icelandic children and adults are increasingly dressing up on October 31, even trick-or-treating in some neighbourhoods. The popularity of American television and movies is likely behind the trend.

２０１８年１０月３０日（Tue.）. ハロウィンに習って、今年の最後の収穫・サツマイモを掘って来ました。 ベニアズマ、安納、金時、ベニはるかの４種類を植えていましたが、大きく育ったのはベニはるかだけ。 トータルの収量も昨年の半作ぐらいで、せいぜい１５kgぐらいです。 それでも、イノシシにもヤラレズ、無事に収穫出来たことに感謝すべきかも。 兎に角、周辺から聞こえてくるのは夏の酷暑と降雨不足で不作だったとの声が多いです。地球温暖化は確実に現れており、根本対策が必須です。

It’s that time of year again where people are asked to be vigilant while out and about this Halloween.

They have said that it’s imperative that people are extra vigilant this week. They want all young people to be extra careful using fireworks and around bonfires.

Likewise, we ask them to be considerate to people around them particularly the elderly and animals.

A member of the fire brigade told The Liberal:
“We know people will be using fireworks, but please be very careful as they can be extremely dangerous. I’d like people to keep an eye on their elderly neighbours and ensure they don’t open the doors to anyone on Halloween night itself, even trick or treaters.”

“Finally, I ask people to share this message with their friends and be extra careful when out and about on the roads. Please share this information with your friends.”

EUにおけるこのサマータイムの制度は、健康障害などで物議を醸しており、いずれ、なくなる方向にあるようです。

２０２０年の東京オリンピックの際、一定期間、サマータイムを導入するとか、安倍政権が言っていましたが、そんな大掛かりなシステム変更は全く必要なく、単に、開催時刻設定を変更するだけで十分でしょう。（この問題の結論は知り得ていませんが・・・）

２０１８年１０月２７日（Sat.） 朝晩の冷え込みが少しだけ気になる気候になってきました。やっと、温泉にでも行ってみようかと思える時候でもあります。（愛知県平野部）
そんな中、アイスランドのサイトの見出しから、温泉に浸りながらのオーロラ見物か（？）と思ってしまいましたが、記事内容によると、誤って地熱ベント（熱い温泉）に踏み入ってしまって、火傷を負ったと言う内容でした。 （ ニュースソース： iceland monitor. １０月２６日発 ）

The Northern Lights can pose danger if one only looks up towards the night sky.

A tourist has first and second degrees burns from the toes to the thigh after stepping into a hot spring whilst observing Northern Lights in the night sky in Hveradalir, South Iceland.

The tourist was travelling with a group in an organised Northern Lights trip with a coach. The man had stepped off the walking path and stepped into the hot spring.

He was sent to hospital in Reykjavik where he is recovering.

見出しを読んだ瞬間は、温泉に浸ってオーロラ観測も良いものだと思ってしまいましたが、そんな悠長な内容ではありませんでした。

それにしても、そんな危険なエリアに入れてしまうのも考えものです。 安全柵かロープなども無かったのでしょうか。 何れにしても、見知らぬ危険なエリアに接近する時は、十分に注意したいものです。
