Tourists flocking to see Denmark’s most famous landmark, the Little Mermaid, will be met with an unexpected sight today.

Unknown perpetrators have doused the iconic sculpture with red paint overnight.

Copenhagen Police were alerted to its ‘new attire’ early this morning at 06:30.

“I can confirm she certainly isn’t bronze-coloured any more,” said Thomas Tarpgaard, a police spokesperson, according to DR Nyheder.

“Actually, it was Ekstra Bladet [tabloid newspaper] that called in and reported it. So then we drove out there and the Little Mermaid was indeed painted red. We don’t know how long it has been painted red, but it likely occurred overnight.”

Aarhus connection?
Tarpgaard said the police are opening up an investigation into the vandalism and that the municipality will be cleaning up the sculpture shortly.

The police don’t have a theory as of yet, but suggest that the paint attack could be politically motivated.

Over the bank holiday weekend, a fierce debate began regarding a contentious artwork in Aarhus that involved painting trees, bushes and grass in one of the city’s most cherished park areas.

It’s not the first time that the Little Mermaid has sustained an attack. It’s been beheaded (twice) and, more recently, had to share the limelight with a naked artist.

It’s fair to say that Copenhagen’s biggest draw has endured more than most sculptures.

ドイツ： ヘラクレスの裸像とＦＢ

２０１７年５月３０日（Tue.） 暑いですね～！　畑の作物に水遣りし、サツマイモの植え付け前の準備として土を耕してきましたが、１時間程度が限界でした。　昼過ぎには３４℃ぐらいになっていて、これは異常であると認識すべきではないでしょうか。　地球温暖化対策は急がれるべきものでしょう。

The German city of Kassel is once again able to display its treasured statue of Hercules on Facebook ... without red swimming trunks.

Tourism officials for the city were shocked recently to discover that a photo gallery they had put up on Facebook - including a shot of the statue from the rear - had been blocked on the site because Facebook censors recognized it as an image of a nude man.

The city is quick to point out it is, indeed, a statue, not a man. However, rather than get into an argument with Facebook, city officials reposted the photo, this time with a pair of red digital swimming trunks protecting both Hercules' modesty and the world from a view of his buttocks.

それにしても、加計gate に関しては議論の余地はなく、明らかに ｢黒｣ でしょう。　それを白と言い張る菅官房長官や首相は、もはや犯罪人のように見えてしまいます。　また、疑義が生じていることに関し、不正がないと信ずるならば、堂々と証明すべきであり、それを拒むことは都合が悪いのであって、｢黒｣ を自白しているのと同じに見えています。

繰り返しになりますが、このような不誠実・不公正・身勝手で、且つ、歴史にも学ぼうとしない欠陥だらけの政治のあり方は許してはならないでしょう・・・。　（自民党議員には、もはや自浄作用はないのでしょうか。）

デンマーク： traffic info screens

２０１７年５月２９日（Mon.） 畑で育っていたソラマメは、水遣り不足で今年は失敗。　葉っぱが枯れて落ちてしまったので生育不十分ですが全てを収穫しました。　やや小ぶりではありますが、茹でて食してみるとシッカリとしたソラマメの味、今宵はこれでビールをいただきます。

Cyclists in Copenhagen will now be able to pick up information about two-wheeled traffic jams en route through the Danish capital.

Roadwork, events, distance to destinations and safety tips will all be included on five new message screens to be installed alongside cycle lanes in Copenhagen, reports broadcaster DR.

The innovative project, which will give cyclists information on alternative routes to avoid congestion with other two-wheeled commuters, is the first of its kind in the world, according to the report.

“More accessibility is needed for the increasing number of cyclists that unfortunately are fighting for space on cycle lanes,” the head of the city municipality’s technology and environment department, Morten Kabell, told DR.

“The new information screens give cyclists the opportunity to choose the most traffic-free routes through town,” he said.

Niels Agerholm, a traffic researcher at Aalborg University, told the broadcaster that the concept for the information screens was backed up by practical necessity.

“It makes a difference. If there is a way through somewhere, then a screen of this kind could get people to change direction,” he said.

“And you have to say that, with the amount of cyclists that are in Copenhagen now, we have a congestion problem,” Agerholm continued.

The information boards, which will be located on the Nørrebrogade, Gyldenløvesgade, Amagerbrogade, Vermlandsgade and Amagerfælledvej streets, cost 4.2 million kroner ($630,000) to develop and produce and were paid for by EU funding, according to the report.

The first screen, on Nørrebrogade, is already in place with the remaining four on the way.

環境にも配慮した都市を目指すＣＰＨならではの取り組みなのでしょう。　サイクリストのための専用レーンも整備されていることでしょうし、議会も行政も、そして市民も理解し納得して共同推進しているように見えます。

２０１２年の４月と７月にＣＰＨを訪問していますが、あれから５年、ニュースで見ているだけではありますが、結構変わっているようです・・・。

ところで、相変らず平気でウソをつく首相がいるようです。　”参議院でも丁寧にわかりやすく説明していきます・・・” などと（共謀罪関連）。　毎回、強行採決もどきの状態を押し通しながら、その後は、お決まりのセリフ。　これで国民を騙し続けるのは許せません。

この政権は、違う意味でさっさと ”変わって(代わって)” もらいたいものです。

ドイツ： 泥の水路から馬を救出

A Hamburg photographer has captured dramatic images of volunteer firefighters rescuing a stricken horse. About 15 firefighters had to drag the stallion out using fire hoses.

Volunteer Hamburg firefighters dragged a horse to safety with fire hoses on Saturday morning.

A 500-kilogram (1,100-pound) stallion named Laban slipped in a muddy ditch in Altengamme and was unable to pull itself out.

Eyewitnesses said it was only just able to keep its head above water, the DPA news agency and Hamburger Morgenpost reported.

Hamburg photographer Daniel Bockwoldt captured the dramatic images as firefighters dragged it to safety.

They tied two firehoses under Laban's belly and dragged him up to safety.

Pictures showed how about 15 firefighters combined their efforts to free Laban, as a farmer watched on.

Last month, firefighters had to rescue a horse after it was trapped in a swimming pool in the Taunus region of Hessen state, DPA reported at the time.

In that instance they used a crane.

In January, Bavarian firefighters used a ladder made of straw bales to rescue a horse from an icy pond.

まァ、救出できてよかった・・・と言うニュースでしょう。　ちなみに、２０１３年にドイツ滞在した時、近くの農場にはペットとしての馬が３頭ほど飼われていました。　さかのぼって、２０１２年のデンマークの農場滞在では、滞在先農場に約１０頭の馬がいましたし、近在にはペットとしての馬を飼う家が多くありました。

デンマークとドイツはユトランド半島で陸続きでもありますし、国境は確かにありますが、歴史や文化的な面では共通的なものも現代に流れ続けているのではないでしょうか。

既に当ブログでも紹介済みですが、ドイツでの滞在先農場のＯさんは、自身曰く ｢自分はバイキングの末裔か｣ と思っているとのことであり、近在の多くの家屋の屋根に掲げられたシンボルは、バイキング船の印に近いものだ・・・とも言っていました。　当ブログの表紙写真の右側屋根の上に飛び出している２種類の構造物がそれです（ドイツ、ＮＲＷ州ラーデン）。

Ariana Grande is to return to Manchester to play a benefit gig for the victims of the attack at her concert on Monday.

The singer tweeted: "There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better.

"However I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need help in any way."

The star said: "I'll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honour and raise money for the victims and their families."

She continued: "Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before."

'We will continue'

The singer said she wanted the current tour to be "a safe space" for her fans to "express themselves".

"This will not change that," she added.

"We will continue in honour of the ones we lost, their loved ones, my fans and all affected by this tragedy.

"They will be on my mind and in my heart everyday and I will think of them with everything I do for the rest of my life."

The star said she would reveal further details once the gig had been confirmed.



Meanwhile, one of the singer's hits from 2015 has re-entered the singles chart at number 11.

The song One Last Time had been performed at Monday's concert,

Fans of the singer campaigned to get Grande's single back into the charts as a tribute to the 22 people who had died in Manchester.
