NIEA’s English Lesson 3 (Niimi English Salon #168)

We had Niimi International Exchange Associaion's English Lesson #3(Niimi English Salon #168) at Niimi-shi Gakujutsu Koryu Center on October 16th.

The special guest that evening was Jamie Kanki, a former ALT in Niimi.

Jamie is working at University of Missouri Kansas City.

She supports foreign students who come to study at the university.





She talked about her job at the university, how to apply for American universities, and so on.


There were many questions to her after her presentation.

It was a good occasion for the present ALTs to meet a former ALT.

2012(平成24)年度新見市国際交流協会英語講座第3回(第168回新見英語サロン)開催

10月16日(火)、新見市学術交流センター交流ホールにおいて、2012(平成24)年度新見市国際交流協会英語講座第3回(兼第168回新見英語サロン)を開催しました。

この日は、元新見市ALTであり現在出身地ミズーリ州カンザスシティにあるミズーリ大学カンザスシティ校(University of Missouri Kansas City)の留学生課に勤めているJamie Kankiさんを特別ゲストにお迎えしました。





Jamieさんは、大学のお仕事でアジア諸国を回っているのですが、カンザスシティから姉妹都市の倉敷市への訪問団一行と倉敷で合流して倉敷滞在中、新見にも足をのばしてくれました。

まずは、Jamieさんの自己紹介(これは、第1回の英語講座の復習になりました)から始まり、アメリカへの留学について、ご自身のミズーリ大学カンザスシティ校についてなどいろいろとお話してくれました。



受講者たちからの質問も出て、生の英語に触れる機会になったように思います。

現ALTともいろいろと情報交換できていたようでよかったと思います。







最後には、全員で記念撮影もしました。

NIEA's English Conversation Lesson #2(Niimi English Salon #167)

On October 9, we had NIEA's English Conversation Lesson #2(Niimi English Salon #167).

The theme of the lesson was "hobbies."

First we execised phrases like these that you can use when we talk about our hobbies.

What are your hobbies and interests?
What do you like to do in your spare time?

My hobbies are traveling abroad.
I like reading detective stories.

Then we also practised how to expand our conversations using related questions like these.

Which country did you enjoy visiting most?
Who is your favorite author?

After learning phrases above, we practiced conversation about our hobbies in small groups.

We changed groups every 15 minutes.

I believe everybody enjoyed talking about their hobbies.

2012(平成24)年度新見市国際交流協会英語講座第2回(第167回新見英語サロン)開催

10月9日(火)、2012(平成24)年度新見市国際交流協会英語講座第2回(兼第167回新見英語サロン)を開催しました。

今年度の英語講座第2回目のこの日のテーマは「趣味」。

下記のような趣味についての英会話表現を練習しました。

What are your hobbies and interests? (あなたの趣味と興味は何ですか？)
What do you like to do in your spare time? (暇なときはどんなことをするのが好きですか？)

さらに、それに対する解答例も練習しました。
My hobbies are traveling abroad. (私の趣味は海外旅行です。)
I like reading detective stories. (私は探偵[推理]小説を読むのが好きです。)

そして、その後の会話を広げる表現についても練習しました。
一問一答ではなく、そこから会話を広げるのが大切だからです。

Which country did you enjoy visiting most? (どちらの国が一番楽しかったですか？)
Who is your favorite author? (好きな作家は誰ですか？)

これらを練習した後は、実際に小グループで会話練習を行いました。

くじにより途中でグループのメンバーを代え、いろいろな人と趣味の会話を楽しんで練習することができたと思います。
