Fritz von Weizsäcker, the son of late German President Richard von Weizsäcker, was stabbed while giving a medical lecture in Berlin. One other person was seriously injured in the attack.

Fritz von Weizsäcker, the son of the late President Richard von Weizsäcker, was stabbed to death on Tuesday while giving a lecture at a Berlin hospital, according to local police.
Authorities said a man stabbed von Weizsäcker, 59, during his medical lecture at the Schlosspark hospital in the western Berlin neighborhood of Charlottenburg, where von Weizsäcker is a senior internal medicine specialist. Police apprehended the attacker with the help of members of the crowd.
One other person in the audience, who police said was there privately, was also seriously injured while trying to stop the attacker. That person was taken to a different hospital to receive treatment, Berlin's fire department said on Twitter.

A murder investigation has been opened and investigators were at the scene taking statements from audience members and employees, authorities said.

'Stunned' by killing
Von Weizsäcker had a long career in medicine. He worked in Freiburg, Boston and Zurich before taking his post at the Schlosspark Clinic in Berlin in 2005.
He is one of four children of Richard von Weizsacker, who served as German president from 1984-1994 and passed away in 2015.
Christian Lindner, the leader of Germany's Free Democratic Party, said he was "stunned" by Fritz von Weizsäcker's death.
"My friend Fritz von Weizsäcker was stabbed today in Berlin. A passionate doctor and a fine person," Lindner wrote. "He was just over at our house for a barbecue. I am stunned and must share my saddness. Once more you ask yourself, in what world do we live."

6. Trad in Dublin
Nothing beats a cosy winter pint in Dublin; throw in a hefty dose of trad music and you have a match made in heaven. Gigs are held all over the city, in some remarkable venues like City Hall, Kilmainham Gaol and Rathfarnham Castle.

Reading has increased for the last two years in the country, as Icelanders read or listen to 2.3 books on average per month. Women and families with children read the most, according to a survey from the Icelandic Literature Center. The survey also revealed that young people read other languages than Icelanders.

“A certain group of young people, from 18 to 35 years old, read a lot in other languages than Icelandic. Most readers get ideas for reading materials from friends and relatives,” says Hrefna Haraldsdóttir, director of the Icelandic Literature Center

Those surveyed were both asked about reading and listening. Two years ago, Icelanders read or listened to 2 books on average per month, compared to 2.3 at this time of asking. Part of it can be explained by an increase in audiobook listening. “It’s a considerable increase. Two years ago, 35% of Icelanders had listened to an audiobook in the last twelve months, compared to 41% in this year’s survey,” Hrefna stated.

When asked about the fact that young people read in other languages than Icelandic, Hrefna had this to say: “I’m not necessarily worried but it is, of course, a sign that young people are not as dependent on Icelandic when reading, when compared to other age groups. It’s positive that young people can read for pleasure and comprehend material in other languages, but we also have to be conscious that it doesn’t negatively affect the Icelandic language.

Welcome back! The Christmas Cat has arrived in downtown Reykjavík for the second time. Last year, the 5 metre tall metal cat was put up for the first time in Lækjartorg square. It has proven to be popular with both travellers and locals alike, creating a festive scene in downtown Reykjavík. The cat is six metres wide, lit up with 6,500 LED lights. The cat is put up by Reykjvík city and will stay there throughout the festive season until early 2020.

Christmas tradition.

The Christmas Cat is a Christmastime children’s folktale, part of the giantess’ Grýla and Leppalúði household Grýla and Leppalúði are the parents of the 13 Icelandic yule lads. The Christmas Cat is said to eat children who do not receive clothing as Christmas presents. It was made famous in a 1932 poem by Icelandic poet Jóhannes úr Kötlum. Björk also recorded a popular version of the song in the late 1980s (listen here).

フランス（France 🇫🇷）： Sudden snowstorm

２０１９年１１月１６日（Sat.） 耳を疑うような事件・事故が起きているようです。一体、日本は、日本人は、どうしてしまったのでしょうか。判断力や思考力を失ったかと思わせるような御仁が多すぎます。しかし、思えば、政治家そのものが劣化しているとしか見えませんので、一般人にのみに対して尋常性を求めることが誤りなのかも知れません（残念ですが）。

A man died due to unexpectedly heavy snowfall in the Rhône-Alpes region in France. Rail traffic was also disrupted and 300,000 homes were left without electricity due to the weather.

The préfecture said a 63-year-old motorist died on Thursday evening in the town of Roche, in northern Isère, after a tree fell.

The man was trying to move a tree that had fallen under the weight of snow around 7pm, with the help of other people, when a second tree fell on them. A 27-year-old man was also injured and hospitalised in Bourgoin-Jallieu.

Snowfall has caused power cuts, depriving some 300,000 households of electricity in four departments - Ardèche, Rhône, Isère and Drôme - according to energy provider Enedis.

“Our teams are being deployed but the situation is still evolving,” said Enedis.
