Swedish teenage climate campaigner Greta Thunberg was joined by hundreds of students in Paris on Friday, as she brought her growing protest to the French capital.

After urging the EU in Brussels to move more aggressively on greenhouse gas cuts on Thursday, Thunberg then travelled to Paris where she met up with young activists from France, Belgium and Germany for a march which was also joined by French actress Juliette Binoche.

"I never thought it would get so big and I think it's amazing," she said of her campaign, speaking to journalists ahead of the march. "We, children, we should not have to do this, adults should be taking responsibility."

A crowd of around 1,000 people took part in the protest in central Paris, one of dozens planned in cities across Europe as part of her Fridays For Future movement.

But outside Paris, only two other class-cutting marches have been organized – one in Beauvais just north of Paris and one in the southwestern city of Dax.

Last Friday, only around 200 students protested outside the environment ministry in Paris.

'It takes time to mobilize'
"I don't know why young people mobilize massively in some countries and not others," Thunberg said in an interview with Le Parisien which was published on Friday.

"France, the country of COP21, needs to do what it says it will," she added.

Under the 2015 Paris deal to limit global warming to well below 2C, the EU's 28 member states have pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 percent by 2030, compared to 1990.

Still, France's climate efforts have come increasingly under the spotlight since August when high-profile green activist Nicolas Hulot resigned abruptly as environment minister saying the government was not making enough progress.

"There have been other social movements which were very active" in France, said 22-year-old Romaric Thurel, one of the coordinators of Youth For Climate France.

"France is a big country and it takes time to mobilize, but we feel a shift."

アイルランド（Ireland 🇮🇪）： donning the green

２０１９年２月２２日（Fri.） 昨夜の北海道の地震には驚きました。 ここは愛知県なのですが、TVから緊急地震速報の警報音が鳴り、画面にはそれを示す文字も。 当然、この東海地方にも間もなく激しい揺れが来るのだと身構えましたが、震源は北海道であるとの説明が続きました。 エッと思いましたが、しばらくTVを注視。 その後、数分間が過ぎて、東海地方には直接的な影響がなさそうで安堵した次第です。
それにしても、ほぼ半年前（２０１８年９月６日）の北海道胆振東部地震と震源も近そうなので、あの時の、惨状や全道停電等の悪夢が頭を過ぎりました。

東海地方も、東海・東南海・南海のそれぞれの単独大地震や、この三連動型の巨大地震の発生が予測されて久しいわけで、それに対する警告でもあったと解するのが妥当なのかも知れません。 お互いに、“備えよ常に” です。

This year’s Global Greening is the biggest edition yet of the initiative.



TOURISM IRELAND SAYS it expects up to 400 famous sites around the world to go green on St. Patrick’s Day as part of the tenth year of the Global Greening initiative.
The now annual project started at the Sydney Opera House in 2010 but has expanded hugely since then to include other global landmarks in all corners of the world.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons said the agency currently has 288 global sites already going green this year but that he expects 400 to sign up by the day itself.
Last year, 300 landmark sites across 50 countries were involved in the initiative.
Some of the new sites included this year are Victoria Falls, the Nations Tower in Abu Dhabi and the Shizuoka Stadium in Japan, where Ireland will play the host nation in this year’s Rugby World Cup.
Last year, some of the sites that were included for the first time were the Space Needle in Seattle, the fountains in London’s Trafalgar Square and the San Mamés stadium in Bilbao.

Gibbons said today that there had been a somewhat “tongue-in-cheek” request to see Buckingham Palace go green but that this was politely declined.
The tourism chief added that the project cost is less than €30,000 and is thanks in large part to Irish people living abroad and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
“The Irish diaspora have played a key role in relation to this, there are 70 million people abroad but the Irish societies in places like Philadelphia and Chicago and Sydney, Singapore play a huge role in driving this project forward as well as the local tourism Ireland teams and our ambassadors and consuls general,” he said.

Three teenage boys aged 14 and a 12 year old boy have been arrested after they gang-raped a 19-year-old woman in Baltimore, Maryland.

According to FOX 5, the four boys have been arrested and charged with rape after they carried the brutal attack on February 6th.

It is believed the four boys raped the young woman after they followed her on a bus before forcing her into a secluded backyard at gunpoint.

Police say the four boys were arrested after they fled the scene after they were caught raping the woman by neighbours who intervened.

It is understood the three 14-year-olds are being charged as adults whilst the 12-year-old is being charged as juvenile.

All four are currently being detained at a central booking facility.

アイスランド（Iceland 🇮🇸）： Icelandic students

２０１９年２月２０日（Wed.） 安倍政権による言論抑圧とも取れる文書に、良識ある人々が抗議声明を発表しました。 全く同感です。 一方で、先の国会答弁で “ 言論の自由だ” と言い放った安倍の稚拙な発言とは、表面上で共通する言葉が一部に使われていますが、その重みは全く異なるものです。 一体、いつまでこの稚拙な政権を続けさせるのでしょうか、国民は。 今の自民党は、一昔前のそれとは大きく違います。 日本会議に牛耳られた戦前回帰の危険な集団になっています。 この政権以外にない・・・ではなくて、この政権だけはダメなのです。

A strike for climate will take place in Austurvöllur square in the Reykjavik city centre this Friday, February 22nd - and every Friday after that - between 12-13.

The strike is inspired by Greta Thunberg whose school strikes for climate in Sweden have garnered widespread attention. Tens of thousands of youth have followed her example and went to the streets to object to the authorities’ lack of action, in Belgium, Britain, USA, Australia, Germany, Sweden and other countries.

In a press release it states:

"Latest data from Gallup shows that more Icelanders than ever before are interested in - and are worried about - environmental issues 👉🏻 (http://bit.ly/2IuvEp4), and yet carbon emissions are still increasing. We want to show the authorities that the public is aware of the severity of the situation and we are calling for drastic measures.

The government published an environmental plan for 2030 with the goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2040. While we support this plan, further action is needed. The current plan is not conducive to reaching the goal of staying below 1,5° C warming. We demand actions that have the capacity to reach that goal.

It is clear that funding for environmental actions needs to increase drastically. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2,5% of GDP must be reserved for actions towards keeping the temperature rise within 1.5° C. The Icelandic plan is to spend 0,05% of GDP per year for the next five years. We demand that Iceland rise to the challenge, listen to the scientists, declare an emergency and reserve at least 2,5% of domestic GDP for direct climate actions. The labour market must also take responsibility and therefore a certain change of mindset must take place.

We demand drastic action. Now. For coming generations. For safeguarding our climate."

デンマーク（Denmark 🇩🇰）： First stork of the year

The first stork to arrive in Denmark this year has landed on the island of Bornholm, according to birdwatcher website Storkene.dk.

The sighting of the first stork, traditionally considered a sign spring is coming, therefore occurred a week earlier than in 2018.

Favourable weather conditions are partly responsible for the early arrival of the bird, according to Storkene.dk chairperson Jess Frederiksen.

“This is extremely early. It is very unusual, and there is no doubt that it is due to the mild weather and climate change in general,” Frederiksen said.

“(The stork) is from Spain, Portugal or maybe North Africa. With the southwesterly wind we have had, many storks have come to Europe early this year. And that is very unusual,” he said.

Another unusual feature of this year’s arrival is its location: the first stork is most frequently spotted in southern Jutland, rather than Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea.

政治・行政もそうですが、マスコミ各社も大切な情報は流して欲しいし、隠蔽や歪曲報道であってはなりません。

加えて、芸能人の一人が発癌を公表しました。 発癌に関する正確な数値は知りませんが、多いか、または、多くなって来ているのではないでしょうか。 発ガン性を懸念されているグリホサートなどが、遺伝子組み換え食材に入っていて、私達の体内に取り込まれていることも一因ではないでしょうか、知らない間に。

こうした事実や懸念も、広く・繰り返し報道されるべきでしょう。 単なる事件・事故報道よりも・・・です。
