Strictly, it is, mimesis in the deadly poison caterpillar similar to a hairstyle of Mr. cards.

厳密には、トランプ氏の髪型にそっくりの猛毒毛虫に擬態、です。
生き物が自然界を生き抜くのは並大抵のことではありません。そのため、生き抜く確率が低い生き物は一度に沢山の卵ないし赤ちゃんを産んだり、防御する術をもっていたり、独り立ちできるまで親が徹底的に面倒をみたりします。
そして、中には私たちの想像を超えるような方法で身を守るような生物も…。
今回は、SCI Newsが取り上げた、アメリカ大統領選挙に立候補しているドナルド・トランプ氏の髪型にソックリと話題、アフリカのモフモフで巨大な猛毒毛虫に擬態する雛をお届け。
毛虫芋虫嫌いは思わず「ウッ！」となる芋虫っぷり。鳥だけどちょっぴり閲覧注意ですよ。

これはDano Graysonによってアップされたヒナの擬態動画。必死に真似してる姿が可愛すぎて萌え死にそう！
アマゾンに広く分布するハイイロモンキタイランチョウの雛は、ビビッドカラーなオレンジと黒、頭に飾り毛まであるド派手な姿をしています。本来、雛は捕食者に狙われないように地味な毛色をしているのが一般的。こんなに目立つ格好をするなんて「自分を食べて」とアピールしているようなもの。とても危険です。
しかし、それには驚くべき理由が隠されていました。この派手な毛は、母鳥が餌を捕りに行っている間、フランネル・モスという毛虫に擬態するためだったのです。
毛虫や幼虫は鳥をはじめとする動物の餌になりやすい印象がありますが、フランネル・モスの幼虫（以下フランネル幼虫）は見事なフサフサもあって迫力のサイズな上に、猛毒を持つ危険生物。
筆者が敬愛するアニマリストのコヨーテ・ピーターソン氏は、フランネル幼虫の毒で人が死んだという報告はないけれど、刺されるとあまりの痛みに1時間ほど悶絶するレベルだと語り、葉っぱに乗せた状態で観察していても手に痛みを感じると顔を歪ませたほど。
そう、ハイイロモンキタイランチョウの雛は、有毒生物の真似をするベイツ擬態をすることで捕食者から身を守っているのです。動きもまさに毛虫そっくりで、鳥だと言われなければ騙されてしまいますよね。
そういえば、トランプ氏の発言に毒があるのも、このフランネル幼虫を意識しているからだったり…なんてことは無いですね。
