アイルランド： hardy souls

さて、昨日はクリスマス、アイルランドの首都ダブリンの近くの海岸では、恒例の the annual Christmas swim が行われたと報じられています。　（　ニュースソース：　The Journal.ie　１２月２６日発　）

Hundreds turned up for the annual Christmas swim in aid of charity.

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE lined up this Christmas Day, to jump off the famous Forty Foot pier in Sandycove for their Christmas swim.
多くの人がこのクリスマスの日に居並びました。　Sandycove にある有名な Forty Foot の突堤から、クリスマス・スイミングで飛び込むためです。



Such swims happen all over the country with the aim of raising money for charity, and this one near Dun Laoghaire in Dublin is done in aid of the St John of Gods charity.

People have been swimming at the Forty Foot – rain or shine – for 250 years.

アイルランド： Breaking（速報）

２０１７年１２月２５日（Mon.） クリスマスを迎えるアイルランドでは、空軍などによる粋な計らいがなされているようです。　（　ニュースソース：　The Liberal.ie　１２月２４日発　）

Breaking: Santy has been given permission to enter Irish airspace tonight
速報：　サンタ（ Santy ）は、今夜、アイルランドの空域に入ることが許可されています。



The Irish Air Corps have granted permission for a sleigh accompanied by nine reindeer to enter Irish skies.

Paschal Donohoe, the Minister for Transport stated the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has granted access.

“I am informed by the IAA that a very large man with a white beard and bright red suit will be operating a low-flying sleigh with eight reindeer, being led by one with a big red nose”

The Irish Air Corps have warned that Santa’s secret service of elves will be passing over Ireland at 5:20pm to make one last check of the naughty or nice list.

Met Éireann has stated that Santa will need to wrap up warmly as there may be snow in some parts of Ireland, and rain is expected in Munster/South Connacht.

ドイツ発： 続く列車事故

２０１７年１２月２３日（Sat.） 久しぶりに兄弟家族との食事会に参加してきました。　中でも甥っ子の子供（９歳）の聡明さには驚かされました。　彼（男の子）は生まれた後、ほどなくして外国暮らし（５年間）して帰国したせいか、小学３年生とは思えないほどの大人びた話しっぷりで、国際交流感覚が既に備わっているように思えました。　こうした人材が成長し、さらに増えてくれるのであれば、国際交流の潤滑剤の役割を果たしてくれるのではないかと感じた次第です。　島国日本は、もっと国際交流を図るべきでしょう（金をばらまくだけでなく）。

Dozens of people have been injured in two separate rail accidents in Europe. Two trains collided in Austria and derailed while a commuter train in Madrid slammed into a train station track buffer.

Two passenger trains collided in Austria on Friday. Two cars from the regional trains were turned over, while a third was left leaning heavily.

Serious injuried
Four people were seriously injured and another eight were lightly injured in the accident at Kritzendorf, 18 kilometers (11 miles) north of Vienna, authorities said.

Human error probable cause
The country's infrastructure minister said authorities suspected human error rather than a technical defect to have caused the collision. One of the trains was a high-speed train and the other was a slower passenger train.

Crash in Spain
Meanwhile, near the Spanish capital of Madrid, dozens of people were injured when a double-decker commuter train collided with a train station barrier.

Dozens injured
Two people were seriously injured, while 40 others were treated for injuries including shock and bruisings. The accident happened in the Spanish city of Alcala de Henares.

Authorities investigating
Police blocked off the scene and the accident caused delays in local train traffic. Spanish rail operator Renfe said in a statement it was investigating the cause of the crash.

続報・フランス： Deadly French school bus crash

２０１７年１２月２２日（Fri.） 小中学校は今日、終業式だったようですね。　午前中から下校する姿を見かけました。

さて、フランスで起きたバスと列車の衝突事故、このスクール・バスは学校から子供達を自宅に送り届ける最中だったようです（３回目の続報です）。　死者は６人に増えてしまっています。　（　ニュースソース：　THE LOCAL.fr　１２月２１日発　）

The driver of a school bus that was hit by a train at a level crossing in southern France, resulting in the deaths of six children, was charged Wednesday with manslaughter, a prosecutor said.
フランス南部の踏切で列車に衝突されたスクール・バスの運転手は、結果的に６人の子供が死亡していますが、水曜日、大量殺害（故意でない）で逮捕されたと検察官が語っています。

The bus driver, a 48-year-old mother who was seriously hurt in the collision, was "placed under judicial control and banned from driving," said state prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux.

At least 20 others were injured when an express train smashed into the bus carrying children home from school in the southeastern village of Millas on December 14.

The driver told investigators that the safety barriers were open at the time of the crash.

But Tarabeux on Wednesday said "material findings" in the investigation suggested the barriers were closed.

The national rail network SNCF said that the barriers had been functioning normally, though witness accounts varied.

Both the bus and train driver were given toxicology tests that came back clean.

The crash was the worst involving a school bus in France for 30 years.

鉄道関係者によると、遮断機は正常だったとしていますが、目撃情報は様々（両方）になっています。　この衝突は、フランスでのスクール・バスを巻き込んだものとしては、ここ３０年で最悪になっています。

遮断機は降りていたとする物証があるらしいのですが、バスの運転手や乗車していた少年の証言では遮断機は上がっていたし、踏切警報ランプは明滅していなかったとしていますので、踏切は機能していなかった恐れも残しています。

そもそも、母親でもあるバス運転手が、遮断機が降りている踏切に進入するとは考えられません、普通は。

無いものねだりをしてはなりませんが、バスか踏み切りにドライブ・レコーダーか監視カメラがあれば、事故の事実解明も容易だったかも知れません。　それにしても、亡くなってしまった６人の子供は戻りません。　心が痛みます・・・。
