A MAN has been killed off his bike following an early morning road traffic collision today.
Gardaí are investigating the incident which occurred in the townland of Kilcop on the Dunmore Road, Co. Waterford this morning.
"The collision between a car and a cyclist occurred at approximately 7am," a garda spokesperson said.
"The cyclist, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford."
This stretch of road is currently closed pending an examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051-305300, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
There has now been 16 cyclist fatalities so far this year, compared to a total of 10 cyclist fatalities last year.

もっとも、日本の各地でも自転車走行のための道路整備などが進められているようですが、一朝一夕に理想の姿を実現することは不可能でしょうから、安全な走行や、安全なコースを選ぶことも必要なのでしょう。
環境面や、持続可能な社会に一歩でも近づける手段の一つとして、自転車の利用は益々高まる方向にあるのでしょう、日本でも。
