昨日私に届いた、あなたからのメールの一節にそう記されていた。

人類がこれまで繰り返してきたこと、それはつまり「歴史は繰り返される」だったのではないだろうか。

そしてその繰り返された歴史的誤り毎に、人類は、もう二度と過ちを繰り返さないぞと、何度自問自答してきたことだろう。

然し人類は、それを克服し乗り越えることは出来ても、繰り返さずにあることは出来ないままにある。

それは人類が人類所以のことでもあり、また人類でなくては為し得ないことなのであろう。

それは猿が火をおこすことを知り、武器を使って獲物を捕らえることを覚え、それを相手から奪い合う時から、歴史は変わらず続いている。

これまでの人類の進化の過程とは、何だったんだろう。

音速よりも速い飛行機を手に入れても、バベルの塔より高い建物を作る技術を得ても、
潜水艦で深海を見ることが出来るようになっても、液体燃料ロケットで宇宙へ行けるようになっても、今なお人類は同じ歴史を繰り返している。

人類が要求すること、そして満足することは、人類の歴史の始まりから何も変わらないままである。
寧ろそれを得る手段や方法が、より狡猾で大規模になっただけである。
