A trip to South America in Peru

Hi, guys.

Followed by the last entry, we went down to Lima from Quito by bus. It was the longest bus ridein my life that took about 2 days on the bus!! But wondeful Peru cuisine we had in the first night in Lima helped us a lot recover from the both sides mentally and physically.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to tour around Lima because we were suppose to head off to Cusco next morning and we arrived at Lima the night before. It was like a wild roller coaster ride!! As soon as we got to Cusco after a one-day bus ride, we caught a shared taxi to Ollantaytambo, is located in southern Peru about 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco. It is located at an altitude of 2,792 meters (9,160 feet) above sea level. And this is where the Peru train runs to Machu Picchu village. And the last ride still waits for you to reach the destination. One more to go!! You need to buy a bus ticket in the village that drives you to the top only 5mins walk away from the site!!

Finally this costly and time-consuming journey will end up there. Congrats!!!

　続いてはペルーです。エクアドルのキトからリマまでは約２日かかりました。大変な移動でしたが、疲れを癒してくれるほどペルーの初夜で食べたご飯は美味しかった。ペルー料理は有名なセビーチェをはじめおいしいものばかり。

　リマ観光もせずに一泊だけして翌日にはマチュピチュの拠点であるクスコへまたもバス移動。これも１日ほどかかる移動。着いたや否や、乗り合いタクシーで1時間半かけてオリャンタイタンボというまた一歩マチュピチュに近づく町へ。マチュピチュまでの道のりはほんとに長いです。標高３０００M近くのところにある遺跡ですからね。

　そこで１泊して次の日の朝１番のペルーレイルという電車にまた１時間半揺られてマチュピチュ村へ到着。やっと着いたかと思えば、またそこからバスで３０分ほど登ってようやく到着。すべての輸送手段にはお金がかかり、結構かかります。マチュピチュに入るのにも、前もってネットから予約してチケットを買っておく必要もあるし、とにかく時間とお金がかかる世界遺産。

This is the Machu Picchu village, and those buses take you to the heritage site. Before that, you need to put yourself in a long line for the bus ride.

　ここがマチュピチュ村です。左のバスでマチュピチュの手前まで連れて行ってくれます。これだけ大変でもバスには長蛇の列、観光客の山。それだけ世界には人気ということでしょうが・・。

I got to take a photo with the cute family with one of the traditional outfits in Peru. Of course, you gotta pay them for the purpose which is 1USD.

Overall, we were rushing through the country in few days, but I had lots of fun in here!! 

In my opinion, Peru is somewhat more of a developed one than the other two where I have been through before. 

And from there, we got organized very quickly and looked up the way to Iquique, Chile.

　これはペルーの民族衣装を纏った親子と。きっちり撮影料を取られましたが。笑　マチュピチュを見た感想は、「正直そんなに・・・」でしたね。というのも先にアンコールワットを見ていたので、巨大遺跡というのには免疫がついていたのかもしれません。テレビやネットで見慣れていたというのもあるのかも。

　ペルーという国は、先の２か国よりも発展している印象で、より都会に見えましたね。ご飯もおいしく親日なので過ごしやすい印象でした。治安も他の南米に比べると、少しは気が休まると思います。

　マチュピチュが終わるとすぐにチリへの移動に向けて出発！ほんと弾丸ツアーです。

A trip to South America in Ecuador

Our next destination from Bogota was Quito, Ecuador. To be honest, I couldn't even imagine what the country is like at all. I didn't even know where it is geographically located on this planet before we decided to go there. 

Somehow we got to the border between the two countries, but we made a huge mistake in the process of an entry to Ecuador. I have been through a border by land before, but I totally forgot to be stamped for departure visa from Columbia, and we headed to stand in a line for entry visas first!! As a matter of course, we got refused for stamps at the counter after a long line. 

After all, it took us much longer than we had expected. But it can't be helped.. 

Then we caught a taxi called collectivo like a shared taxi to the main bus terminal and headed off to the downtown in Quito from there, which took us another 6 hours!! 

　続いて、エクアドルです。コロンビアとの国境では出国スタンプを押す前に入国審査の列に飛び込んだため、また戻されるという最悪の時間の無駄を経験したのはここだけの話です。陸での出国入国手続きは案内がないからわかりづらいのが難点。

　そして首都キトへと向かうのですが、まずは国境でタクシーを使いバスターミナルへ。そこからバスでキトまで６時間。ヘトヘトでしたがもうひと踏ん張り。市街地に着いたときはもう夜でしたが、近くのレストラン街でシュラスコを食らい満足。

As you might know, Quito used to be a hub for all the Chistians in South America. That's why there are lots of magestic churchs left as it was all over the town. I think the Basilica cathedral (the photo above) was the most histrical one.

Our alert level was at peak in here too. Thanks to the precaution, we didn't feel that much that it was a dangerous town. 

　キトはその昔、南米のキリスト教中心都市だったようで、町のいたるところに教会が。上のバジリカ教会は圧巻。ほかにもたくさん見どころがあり、旧市街そのものが世界遺産になっているようです。街並みとしてはキトが一番印象に残った素晴らしいところでしたね。治安も警戒したせいか、そこまで危険な感じはしなかった。個人的にはコロンビアの方がそんな雰囲気が強かった気がします。

We got to spend 3 days in total in Quito with lots of fun!! But another hectic bur ride was just ahead of us... But we managed to secure seats with Cruz del sur that is known for a exclusive bus company in South America. The seats were very comfortable even though we had to be on the bus for about 36 hours, though.. But the seats were like a business class trip. It was still tough, though..

　キトでは２泊して少しゆっくりできました。しかしここからまた過酷な移動です。次は一気にペルーのリマまで大移動。ほぼ１日半くらいバスの中で過ごしました。バスはCruz del surという南米では高級なバス会社。飛行機でいうビジネスクラスのような感じで快適には過ごせましたね。ただ、ずっとバスはきついですが・・。

　次回はペルー編です。

 

A trip to South America in Columbia

As I might have already told that I went for a very rough trip to South America from Vancouver on Oct. 10th to 29th. It was adventurous and fun, but rugged and problematic too. 

 It was kinda in a rush on the last day in Vancouver as I had a tight schedule with the last practice for my soccer academy there. And as you know, We had to arrange everything we needed during the trip - Travel insurance, hotel booking, visa requirement for each country and transport. 

And of course we had a lot of infomation and tips for a trip to the most dangerous continent to visit in the world, according to faceless writers online.  Anyway, we flied over to Bogota, Capital in Columbia.

As soon as we landed and got out of the airport, we realized that we could hardly connect into the internet. Even though we had booked a hotel in Bogota to stay for the first night, but it was a really tough mission to localize it without a wifi. The only one thing we did in this situation is that we asked random people on the streets to figure it out.

In addition, we had heard heaps of rumors that it was never safe. So we were severely aware of anything anybody around us in downtown to avoid any disastrous events like a pickpocketing, robber or attack. 

　今日からこの前まで行ってた南米旅行のリポートです。

　バンクーバーを出たのが10月10日で日本に戻ったのが29日なのでおよそ20日間の滞在でした。行く前も結構バタバタで、出発の当日までサッカースクールをしていたので、準備に追われていましたね。滞在先のビザの確認や、ホテル、航空券に保険、やることはたくさんあります。ネットを見れば「危ない」しか書いてませんからね。この大陸はどんだけ危険なんだと。そしてまずは飛行機でバンクーバーからコロンビアの首都ボゴタへ向かいました。

　上がボゴタの中心地です。

　着いたやいなや、ネットがないのでホテルまで到着するのが大変でした。ボゴタの人たちにどれだけ聞いて回ったか。そして一発目の国ということで、スリや強盗、暴行などありとあらゆる事に警戒しながら緊張しつつの滞在でした。日本人どころかアジア人もほぼいなかったですし、英語も通じない。けど旅行は楽しいですね。

Luckily, we happened to see a bunch of people watching a soccer game Columbia vs Uruguay for the World cup qualifiers on the first day. I sneaked myself into the crowd and support them as if I had been a Columbian. Who knows?

We couldn't relax at all in this country because we were suppose to leave for the next destination on the next day. We rushed to catch a bus next morning to go to Ipiares where is a gateway town to Ecuador. 

We had much more of moving hours on the buses than touring around the cities we visited!! Who set this ridiculously tight schedule for the trip?

　ちょうどコロンビアとウルグアイがW杯予選で試合していたので、一緒に見てました。コロンビア料理は失敗。街並みはカラフルでイイとこでしたね。子どもたちも町中でサッカーをしていて、南米に来たんだと思いました。

　観光もそこそこに、次の日にはコロンビアとエクアドルの国境へ向かうためにイピアレスという街へ。バスでなんと２１時間。そこからコレクティーボという乗り合いタクシーで国境へ。

　移動はすべてバス、観光以上にバス移動が多く、シャワーも２日に１回しか浴びれない日程が続いた過酷な旅の始まりです。

 

 

 

ワーキングホリデー留学サポート

　先日、人生で４か国目となるワーキングホリデー滞在先のアイルランドからビザの許可が正式に下りました。

　これで４度目のワーキングホリデーでの滞在になるのですが、今回の申請もオンラインからでした。過去にワーキングホリデー制度を使って滞在した国は以下の通りです。

　このプログラムは、サッカー留学とは別でワーキングホリデービザを利用した海外留学へのプログラムになります。私がこれまで滞在してきた各国で沢山の日本人留学生を見てきましたが、留学に失敗したり、少なくとも不満を抱えている人たちが多くいたのも事実でした。なせでしょうか？

　そのほとんどは「英語」に起因していました。思っていた以上に英語が伸びていない。留学生同士では仲良くなれるけど、ネイティブスピーカーの友達ができない。語学学校に日本人が沢山いて日本語ばかり使ってしまう、など。すべて自分自身の責任にしてしまうのは酷ですが、これはリサーチ不足、または留学会社に丸投げしてあとは成り行きに任した結果だと言えます。

　留学資金は非常に大きなお金です。そして貴重な20代を1年使って行くのですからしっかりとした計画が必要です。英語習得は簡単ではありません。が、工夫次第で伸びていく可能性はいくらでもあるのです。

The last soccer lesson in Vancouver.

I've often updated my blog recently and catch up to the present because I still have a large backlog of blog entries in mind.

Today, I would like to look back on the very last days of my soccer academy in Vancouver on 9th and 10th of October, 2016.

I clearly remember starting my soccer academy in Vancouver last summer. It had been only few weeks since I landed the new country. It scared me a bit when I started it because everything around me was new to me, and I had also no friends in Vancouver at that time.

But luckily, the number of kids who attended my sessions got bigger little by little by word of mouth. I also got to meet the principal of the JEC japanese language school right after I started the Sunday class. He owns his soccer academy for the kids in his school and was looking for an assistant coach for the academy, so there was a match between demand and supply for us. So I got to know new kids and parents through his academy, and he was very cooperative in advertising my soccer academy in his academy.

That's why I got to start the weekday classes very smoothly as well. I ended up doing what I wanted to do pretty much everyday thanks to those who are very kind and cooperative people. And I got to work for some local soccer clubs in Vancouver as a coach to learn their methodology in kids soccer, which is a precious experience for me.

At last, I was very lucky to have wonderful opportunities with great encounters in this country. And every night reminds me of how good of the days I spent in there as if I had been in a dream. And now I still may be in a dream with my dream job too because I am living on what I love most. So I would like the kids I had been coaching to find something they would love for the rest of their life like I could. If it is soccer for them, I would be delighted, but as long as it is something you love, I will be happy enough. And proud of yourself and what you have done when you look back at a point of time.

Me? Of course I am proud of myself and my life big time.

　ども。最近、更新頻度が上がってます。早く今現時点の活動まで追いつかせます。

　今回は１０月９、１０日に行ったサッカースクール最後のレッスンについてです。

　バンクーバーでサッカースクールを始めた１年前、その当時から参加してくれた子たち、そしてその繋がりから徐々に人数が増えていき、これだけの子たちが最後は集まってくれました。この日に参加できなかった子たちもいて、本当に恵まれていたのだと今改めて思います。

　自分自身も全力で駆け抜けた１年でした。最初は日曜日クラスで、小さい子たちを教えていくところから始まった小さな輪が、土曜日にJEC日本語学校のコーチをさせていただいてから、色んな方たちと出会うことができ、春先に平日クラスを作ったときにまた新しい出会いがありました。そこから毎週４回は自分自身のスクールでレッスンを行い、他の日にカナダの地元クラブやホリデープログラムに臨時コーチとして参加させてもらったり、コーチングは基本的にすべて英語で行い、自分が養いたかった経験値を積むことができました。

　たくさんの出会いと思い出は私の財産になり、これからのコーチ人生の基礎になっていくと思います。すべてがうまくいったと言えば語弊がありますが、自分が思っていた以上にたくさんの得るモノ、財産がここカナダでできたと思っています。本当に感謝しかありません。

　最後に、私自身も出会った一人ひとりの子どもたちには真剣に向き合ってきましたし、それぞれの思い出も鮮明に残っています。そんな子どもたちにサッカーをできるだけ長く好きでいてほしいと思うのはもちろんですが、他に何か好きなことができることもあるだろうし、それを機にやめてしまう子も必ずでてくるでしょう。ですが、私がサッカーが大好きでここまで好きなことと共に人生を歩むことができているように、何か自分が夢中になれるもの、一生誇れる何かに出会ってほしいと心の底から思います。そして過去に後悔がないように。

　失敗は成功すれば過程に変わる。

　再会を楽しみに、私も全力で生きます。

Got to have dinner with a former Japanese international soccer player.

Hi, guys.

There have been heaps of events to write on this blog, so I am now tracing the past to remind me. 

Today, I would like to write a blog post on the day when I got to meet and went for dinner with a former Japanese international(a former Kashiwa Reysol player in J-league), Kudo Masato, who currently plays for Vancouver WhiteCaps with a two years contract.

At first, I had been exploring the possibilities to invite him to my soccer academy in Vancouver or do a soccer event with him for the Japanese community in there. So I was also thinking how I could make contact with him in the first place and how I suggest an idea to interest him as he has a way more beautiful soccer career than I do.

And few days later, I happened to find a mutual friend on Facebook and asked him bridge between us. And he sweetly saw to it. That's how we got to know each other. 

Even though the season was still ongoing, he kindly made time for dinner with us. His personality and thoughtful behaviour at dinner were really impressive. And his phisique at first sight was a bit surprising as it was more robust and well-built than I expected. As a matter of course, he is in the race to secure his position as a striker, and he needs to show the difference from other local players as a visa player.

We were like interviewing him and bombarded him with so many questions, but he never made a face and honestly answered our questions. How gently he was!!

As a result, We couldn't arrange what I wanted to do for the kids with him as it was too soon to offer him, but the good news is that him and another Japanese player who played for New England revolutions in MLS this season, Daigo Kobayashi will be holding a soccer event in Vancouver in late November, apparently. It is a shame that I won't be able to get involved in it as a coach because I will be in Japan then. And I also forgot to take a photo with him at dinner!! GOSH!!

Anyway, I wish him a successful season next year and the event in November.

Keep in touch and meet him again for sure one day.

　色々とあったイベント事を遡りながら書いています。今回は、バンクーバーホワイトキャップスでプレーしている元日本代表（元柏レイソル）の工藤壮人選手と食事をしたことについて。

　始まりは、私がバンクーバーでサッカースクールをしていたこと、そしてバンクーバーにある唯一のプロチームに日本人選手が所属していたことからで、私からなんとか教えている子どもたちに現役プロ選手と触れ合う機会を設けられないかと思い、連絡をどうにか取れる方法を探ることから始めました。たまたま共通の知人がFBを通じていたので、その彼に工藤選手を紹介してほしいとお願いしてから、実際に連絡が取れるようになり、帰る数週間前にようやく直接会って食事することに。工藤選手もシーズン中にも関わらず時間を作ってくれて、非常に好感を持てる選手でした。出会ったときの感想は、やはりプロの体つき、海外にきて激しい当たりをFWとして争う立場で、プロの体というのが服の上からもわかる程でしたね。

　食事中も話していることは、サッカー雑誌に出るようなインタビューみたいに質問攻めにしてしまい、それでも気さくに答えてくれていたのは印象的でした。きっと人としても素晴らしいのだと思います。

　結局、会えたのが私の帰国ギリギリだったので、サッカースクール開催には日数が足らずに実現しませんでしたが、私は残念ながら参加できませんが、今月の終わりに元大宮の小林大悟選手と共に、バンクーバーの日系コミュニティに向けてサッカースクールを開催するようです。

　本当に参加できないので残念ですし、彼と会ったときに写真を一緒に撮るのも忘れてしまったのも残念。笑

　また連絡を取っていればいつか再会できる日が来ると思うので、その時にまたお願いします。

　工藤選手、来シーズンのさらなる活躍と、貴重なプライベートの時間をありがとうございました。

Canadian Rockies 3

Hi, this is the last chapter of the series. 

The photo above is the Colombia Icefield where you can even walk on it, but you need to go with a tour of it. We actually didn't participate in any of the tours for the ice-walk, but we found out that we got to approach only few meters away from the ice site by ourselves. It was screamingly cold, though.

　さて、ロッキー編はこれで最後です。

　上の写真はコロンビア大氷原。BanffとJasper間のちょうど真ん中あたりにあります。この辺りは結構な高地で気温も低かったので、氷河ができたのも頷けました。ツアーに参加すればこの氷原を歩くこともできます。参加しなくて目の前までは行けました。寒いですが・・・。

Let me show you this amazing mountain!! This picture does never do justice to its beauty, unfortunately, so I strongly recommend to visit this majesty. However, you will find a curvy road to drive up ahead of you. Be careful and drive safe!!

　続いてはMt Edith Cavellという山。３０００Mを超える山が並ぶロッキー山脈ですが、ここの麓まで車で上がることができました。写真で伝わりにくいですが、壮大で最高の景色でしたね。

We got to see Elks in woods nearby Jasper. We thought we were lucky enough, but you more than likely get to run into them along the way between Banff and Jasper, apparently. 

　そして野生のエルク！奈良の鹿ではないですよ。笑　見れるとは聞いてましたが、まさかこんな近くで見れるとは思いませんでした。しかもデカい！もののけ姫の世界ですね。Jasperからすぐ手前の道路脇で遭遇。

Let me wrap it up with the picture of a cozy town, Jasper. It seemed like a comfy size to walk around the town and would be a perfect departure gate to every famous viewpoint.

I have a friend who had been traveling around the world, and he told me that he had never been impressed as much as he was at the mountains.

No words come across my mind to describe how spectacular they are, right? 

　最後は目的地であったJasperの街並み。こじんまりした小さな町でしたが、雰囲気もなぜか落ち着きますし、観光しやすい、住みやすそうなところでしたね。是非次はこの町で一泊したいと思うくらいのところでした。

　知り合いの方が世界１周をした人がいるんですが、その人が言うのは、「世界のどの場所よりもカナディアンロッキーに勝る場所はなかった」と言っていました。私も２０か国ほど行きましたが、凄いと本気で思った衝撃はココが一番大きかったように思います。

　是非おススメします！
