Lourdes Celtic FC U14.

Coaching for the U14 at Lourdes Celtic thanks to Tony Sherridan and the head coach, Paul. Honestly, things in coaching wouldn't be going well unless you put extra efforts on the team to be seen with dignity and RESPECT by your players. I think the beginning phase to build a decent relationship with your players is the hardest part, and honestly being an Asian makes it harder. But you need to accept what you are and challenge yourself to make it through. Believing yourself is the only way to turn things around.. 

ダブリン生活最後の方はU14チームの指導が多かったです。最初は舐められ、差別用語が聞こえてきたりもしましたが、結局は自分の実力で黙らせるしかない。この掌返しの過程をみるのが楽しかったりする。海外ではすべて受け止めて進まないと誰も助けてくれません。人種を超えたリスペクトを勝ち取るのは並大抵ではないけど、自分を信じて日々真剣に仕事と向き合えば事態は必ず好転すると身をもって経験しています。 

The last session in Dublin, Ireland!!!

Started from scratch, but we are all connected through football right now! At last, I invited the three players in the Leinster league to our last session to make it more fun! Thanks to all involved, we got to put the best end to it. 
We never say goodbye each other as we will see again soon. 
I cant thank enough to all, but let me thank you here for your cooperation and understanding from the deepest of my heart. 

ダブリンでゼロから始めたサッカーの繋がり。最後はアイルランド3部でプレーする3人の現役選手達も来てくれて贅沢なラストでした。皆さんのご理解とご協力なしではこの寒いアイルランドで継続できなかったので、本当に感謝しています。夏の再会を楽しみにしばしお別れですが、他のコーチ達がバトン繋いでくれるので成長が楽しみです！

皆さん本当にありがとうございました。

The second trial with Shelbourne!!

Hi, guys.

His second trial with Shels is over without the result he wanted. He wasn't given even more than 10mins in the trial match against Bohemian FC. And he was put on the right wing where he has never played before(of course they know where he preferably plays), but cant simply criticize them because he might not of been impressive enough at trainings. Remember that we are footballers came from ASIA. It'd never be easy to break through a subtle form of prejudice and language barriers. 

As you can see him playing in the short clip, he wouldve been rated more differently, if he'd been given more time.But whats done is done. 

He might have a trial with UCD shortly. I want him make the most of the experience with Shels and break down what was wrong. Keep your head up, Rio!

 小島選手の2度目のアイルランド2部への挑戦も契約には至らず。出場時間はラスト10分だけ、しかも怪我した選手との交代でやった事のないサイドでプレー。期待して見に行きましたが少し可哀想でした。ただ首脳陣が練習を見て判断したのかもしれないし、コミュニケーションが不足していた可能性もある。始めから取る気が向こうになかったとしても、練習でスーパーなプレーを連発できればもう少し時間は増えたはず。忘れてはいけないのはここは欧州であり、私達はサッカー後進国から来る助っ人選手である事。当然求められるハードルは高く険しい。

 チームのせいにするのは簡単だけどここを乗り越えてほしい。動画を見てもこのレベルでやれる力はある、でもやれるだけじゃ足りない。日本人未開拓の地を切り開くのは並大抵な事じゃない。

Kick start 1 and Futsal intro.

I've just completed a workshop for Kickstart 1and futsal intro in the FAI coaching education. Had a ton of things to learn and good encounters with local coaches as always. And another great part of taking those fundamental coaching courses is that you can reeducate yourself on things that you have begun to forget. 
All the workshops Ive participated in Ireland mean a lot to me as a coach. 

フットサルLv1と日本でいうキッズリーダーの資格を修了。今日は元Westhamのイングランド人が講師でしたが、「見た目はコーチング初歩コースで必要ないと思う指導者も沢山いるけど、私がそうであったように実はサッカーを知っているようで知らない事に気づいていない指導者が多い」と。勿論知ってる知識もあるけど、改めて聞く事で忘れかけていた指導者としての基本的な事も再確認できた非常に有意義な講義でした。

It was one of the best sessions with 2 senior players came and helped me put smiles on their faces.

One on the left in the first photo, Rio is at a trial with Shelbourne in the league of Ireland and a decision should be made after their first friendly match in the preseason this Friday.

the guy on my right, Ken, plays for Drumcondra this season and we faced each other in the match last weekend. Unfortunately we got scored a great solo goal in the counter attack by him and defeated, but being vital to every match adds up to make a high evaluation for Japanese players, and I believe that makes things for them coming after us easier.

　アイルランドを出国するまで残すところ２週間。この日はサポートしている2人の選手が駆けつけて一緒にスクールを盛り上げてくれました。ありがとう！
　
一人は今アイルランド2部でテスト中。もう一人は3部リーグでプレーしています。3部リーグではこの前、私のチームと直接当たって初の日本人対決が実現。1年で対決が実現したのはやってきた事が徐々に良い方向に進んでいるのだと思います。見事に点決められて負けましたが、日本人の評価がこうやって少しずつ上がっていけばこの国での日本人選手への見方が必ず今後変わってくると信じています。
　残り少ないですが、最後までやり尽して帰ります！

Futsal Intro

Completed the workshop of the FAI futsal intro in the state of art facility, National indoor arena yesterday. 

I again realized that playing futsal on a daily basis would surely help kids improve on the technical aspect in football. At the same time, we need to train up talented coaches specializing in football that is obviously short on numbers. 
In Ireland, the coaching system for futsal has newly been restructured and giving kids as much time as possible to play futsal during the off season.

And there's a spot allocated to each country for the UEFA CL that newly restructured and the inaugural tournament will be held in 2018. So it might be a fantastic story if you could become the Irish champion this year and be as the Irish representative on the world stage!!

　先日はフットサルの指導講習会に参加。特に若年層でのフットサルの重要性とアイルランド協会も選手育成にフットサルを取り入れて本気になっている現状が見て取れました。
　そしてフットサルの全国リーグがないまだまだ発展途上のアイルランドは、今年からフットサルのコーチングライセンス制度も導入して、フットサル普及に力を入れています。

 2018年の今年からフットサル版CLも開催され、アイルランドも毎年1枠あるので、まだまだフットサルに関しては発展途上のこの国で、フットサルでCLを目指すというプランも面白いかもしれません。

Holiday soccer clinic!!

Hi, guys.

　今回はアイルランドで自身が初めて主催するホリデーサッカースクールの様子です！新しい国で、新しい事を１から始めて形にする。今まで色々な国でチャレンジしてきたけど、毎回違った難しさがある。だけど、やりきった後の充実感は共通です。

I'm doing a holiday football clinic for 3days at the moment! Every new attempt overloads you to be successful more than doing the same in your country, but your efforts surely pay off when you complete it with their smiles and good feedbacks! 
Everyday, at least one, I do something good for others.

　今までもニュージーランド、オーストラリア、カナダと指導する機会を頂き、今回も同じように沢山の人の協力なしには実現しませんでした。そして最後まで笑顔で参加してくれた子ども達にも感謝。本当にありがとうございました！

A beautiful sunny day put us an end to the holiday football clinic yesterday! I swear to God that we all worked hard and cooperated together to make the clinic enjoyable. 
I couldn't have done this without any of the kids and their parent's support! Big thanks to you all!!

The Christmas Party of Dublin Bus FC

Attended the Christmas party of the Dublin Bus FC for the 30th anniversary of the club foundation. It was absolutely fun, but my gf seemed to have been more fun..this is off the record, though. 
I'm lucky enough to be a part of the great club in Dublin. And you might as well attend all the team events and not to be shy at all times! You might be sometimes treated as a goofy character at some stage, but that's when you are trying to fit into a new team overseas. 

　所属チームのDublin Bus FCでXmasパーティ。クラブハウス内で盛大に、創立30周年というおまけ付き。飲みから始まりディナー、最後は生演奏の中、踊りまくるというアイルランドらしいパーティでした。朝まで残っている関係者も結構いたけど、私は2時頃に退散。 海外クラブで溶け込むには、こういうイベント事には必ず参加して自分の殻を破ってバカになる。ネタにされて弄られるくらいが丁度いい。

The best of Japan

Japan is amazing for countless reasons.

But my favorite part can be summarized in three words: mindfulness of others. In Japan, people act with others in mind instead of only thinking of themselves. 

Take something simple like letting people pass on the escalator. In other countries, you can make signs and people still won't listen. In Japan, everyone automatically does the right thing to make life easier for everyone else. And it's like that with everything.

You can nap on a crowded subway because people are quiet. You can enjoy clean streets because people don't litter. You can feel like royalty because people serve you with a smile and a bow. The culture of respect creates an unbelievably safe atmosphere that leads to modern day miracles. 

In a busy cafe, you can leave your phone or laptop and not have it stolen. You can park your bike outside and it'll be there when you come back. Even though anyone can walk off with it, In japan, it just doesn't happen. You can even find scooters on the street with keys in the ignition. 

When you cultivate a society where people are mindful of others, life is better for everyone. It's a lesson that the rest of the world can learn from Japan.

 

　日本の良さは日本を離れて初めてわかります。他人への気遣いや街の綺麗さ、便利さ。あげればたくさんある。

　「エスカレーターを乗れば、優先する人、譲る人にしっかり分かれるし、他の国ではそういうサインがあってもそうはならない。皆が思いやれば、皆の生活が良くなることをわかっているから。

　満員電車でも寝れるのが日本、静かだから。道路はゴミが少なく綺麗、皆ポイ捨てしないから。店に行けば、笑顔とお辞儀で迎えてくれる最高のサービスがある。リスペクトの文化が安全な社会を作り、素晴らしい現代の日常がそこにある。

　込み合ったカフェで携帯やパソコンを置きっぱなしにして離れても盗まれない。外に自転車を停めても、盗られていることはほとんどない。海外は鉄のパイプなどに鍵をしっかり繋いでおかないとすぐに盗られる。ロードバイクなんか一瞬だ。ただ日本でも滅多にない。スクーターに鍵を付けたまま離れる配達員もよく見かける。それだけ安全なんだ。

　他人を思いやる気持ちがある社会は、生活をより豊かにする。日本から世界は学べることがたくさんあるはず。」

　世界から見た日本の感想です。日本がいかに住みやすいかが日本にいてはわかりにくいですが、こうして日本を訪れる人たちの意見を聞いて初めて実感しますね。日本人としての大事な部分は一生持ち続けていきたいですね。

Irish Altitude Chamber

What is Altitude Training?

Altitude training, also known as hypoxic training, involves exercising in, living in, or otherwise breathing oxygen-reduced air for the purpose of improved athletic performance, pre-acclimatization to altitude, and/or physical wellness.

Traditionally, individuals had to travel to or live at high elevations to obtain the benefits of altitude training. Through the production of normobaric hypoxic (oxygen reduced) air, we can simulate altitudes of up to 21,000ft/6,400m. As a result, athletes, fitness enthusiasts and health conscious individuals worldwide can take advantage of the benefits associated with altitude training while at sea-level.

As a result, it was very hard.. I had been zoned out for the last few minutes to the end because of obviously oxygen shortage.. It was actually all about how you could push yourself into your limit or over the limit to get fitter. As a matter of course, gym trainers encourage you to go farther, but it's all up to you in the end..

 

　先日、高地トレーニングの状態をジムの密室空間に作りトレーニングする「アルティチュードトレーニング」をチーム練習の一環として体験してきました。低酸素の状態を人工的に作れる空間の中で、ランニングマシーンやバイクでトレーナーの指示に従いながら強度を変えて30分。持久力向上、怪我予防にも良いとされ、なにより時間の効率化に繋がるようです。

　この施設では最大６４００Mまでの状態を人工的に酸素濃度を減らす事で作り出すことができるようです。トレーナーの檄を受けながら追い込まされ続け、後は自分との闘い。最後は酸欠状態で頭がクラクラ…。危なかった。

　一回だけでは効果は薄いだろうけど、継続的にした時の効果をもっと知りたいと思ったし、そういう刺激をもらえたという面ではすごく良い経験になった。

The 4 vs 4 coaching workshop in FAI

The third workshop focusing on the 5 a side football has been completed. We got to observe an actual session with 8 kids from a local club coached by two well-experienced veterans from FAI. 
Simply impressed by their ways of coaching and giving them concrete advices at the right time. 
The most impressive moment was when they told us to be humble and hungry for learning things from any mistakes that you make in coaching. 

先週で3つ目のコーチング講習を修了。今回は4vs4という状況の中で、実際に子ども達に協力してもらい実践形式での講習。アイルランドのアンダー世代代表コーチ経験者の本気の指導を実際に見て得るものしかなかった。

印象に残ったのは、「まだまだ指導の失敗はたくさんしている。そこから学ぶ努力は決して怠らない」という言葉。常に謙虚に勤勉に。指導者としも、人としても。

Strength and Conditioning

Hi, guys.

FAI strength and conditioning workshop is done! I feel like I've taken in a lot from it and must incorporate them into myself as a coach and player. There's another fruitful workshop ahead next weekend as well. Make every workshop count for the future..
Btw, here in the FAI system, you must have completed at least 40 hours of coaching education before you sit for the D licence. It's surely a long way to go for anyone getting there! What about Germany, Spain and England? Any clues on that?

今日はstrength&conditioningという講義を修了。これは簡単に言えば体の色々な動かし方や試合、練習前後の調整法なども含めた身体メカニズムの総合理解を高めるためのもの。アイルランドはUEFAライセンスに辿り着くまでに、いくつもの講義を修了していく必要があり時間が凄く掛かります。イングランドやドイツ、スペインなんかはどうなのかな？知ってる方いらっしゃればお答え頂ければ幸いです。

Zweigen Kanazawa in J-league division 2.

Throwback to last year at Cerezo Osaka with the head coach for the junior youth of Cerezo and a former Japanese international, Hisanori Shirasawa, who is currently in charge of the academy of Zweigen Kanazawa in the J-league second division.
And Mr Shirawa and me had a quick chat on each other yesterday and he had me on the official blog of the club since he was impressed by what I am doing in Ireland. I'm very honored to be introduced, to be honest!!

My leg was on the verge of a terrible consequence..

Hi, guys.

 

I think I've come face to face with the real challenge of the Irish football since I signed with the Dublin bus FC. Today, as you can see in the pic what happened to my leg during the match, to be honest, I thought my ankle got chopped away or broken in half when he came onto my ankle with the studs upwards. It is very fortunate that I still have two legs and walk without a cast!

 

Anyway, I truly realize how valuable Shinji Okazaki is. He is exactly the same size as I am, but he has been highly rated with his consistent performance every game in the top tier of the physical football on the planet! Simply unbelievable!

　アイルランドサッカーの洗礼。荒い荒いとは思っていたけど、ダービーマッチという事もあってさらに激しかった。足の裏で来た瞬間、足首完全に折れたと思いました。アイルランド３部ながら、この技術そっちのけフィジカルサッカーの頂点であるプレミアリーグで、身長も自分とさほど変わらない岡崎選手が、あのリーグで評価されるという価値。オセアニアでもアジアでもサッカーして来ましたが、欧州はやっぱり迫力が違う。体感して改めてその凄さが理解できた。

AC Milan vs AEK Athens in European league at San Siro.

Hi, guys.

Watched the match in the European league, AC Milan against AEK Athens from Greek. The game itself was 0-0, but the vibe of the stadium especially during the match was special. To be honest. I didn't care about who were on the field as it is not my club to follow.. but the number 8 of Milan obviously stood out in the match, so I checked out who it was later and it was Suso from Spain. His vision, agility and technique on the ball were in a different class. When he possessed the ball, he was always looking for a way that causes the opposition a trouble by shooting on target of passing the into the channel.
　
Also got to meet an Italian football agent who has been involved in the transfer of a Japanese interational, Yuya Kubo, and what he requires of youngsters is 'intensity' in football. What does the word mean in the football world? In his opinion, Japanese are too clean and reserved on the field. They have to be more greedy and hungry for assists and goals, not only making a lateral pass not to lose the ball in any situation of the match otherwise you can NEVER survive in the intense European fooball. Those words from him will be a good guidepost for young players.

  ACミランの試合観戦。ヨーロッパリーグで相手はギリシャのAEKアテネ。試合自体は０－０でしたが、生のサンシーロは格別でした。誰が誰だかわからず見てましたが、ミランの８番が別格の輝きを放ってたので後でメンバー表を確認すると、スペイン人のスソ。左利きのどっしりした下半身と周りとはレベルが一つ上の敏捷性。彼がボールを持ったら「取られないだろうな」と思う位置に常にボールを置き、シュートやスルーパスのようなゲームを決める仕事を常に狙っていた。
　
　今回イタリアに行って日本代表久保裕也選手の移籍に携わっているイタリア人の代理人とも会うことができ、彼もしきりに話していたインテンシティという言葉。意味は強度や激しさを指しますが、ここで彼が言っていたのは１対１での激しさ、球際の事。日本人は安パイな横パスが多すぎて、ボールを失わないことを考えすぎていると。もっと貪欲に仕掛け、対人に勝ち続ける事。仕掛け続けるワンパターンから布石を打つ横パスは良い、ただ最後は自分が決めるという気持ち、そして結果が伴う実力がないと欧州では生き残れないのかなと。まだまだ学ぶ事は多いです。
