Vidyawati,who was 35,threw herself into the fire caz villagers egged her on,as relatives and villagers carried his corpse to the cremation ground,Mrs Singh accompanied procession.Soon after the logs began cracking,she leapt into the flames,watched by 400 villagers.
Although sati was abolished 175yr ago,it continued in rural parts of India.
In the latest case,a witness alldges that a widow tried to escape the flames but was beaten back into the fire by the family members.
