デンマーク： Women’s March Copenhagen

This Saturday at approximately 14:00, Copenhageners will gather outside the US Embassy in Østerbro to peacefully march together in unity and solidarity across the city to the Danish Parliament in support of minorities and other marginalised groups.

The Women’s March Copenhagen is one of 616 sister marches taking part worldwide on January 21 in solidarity with those on the Women’s March Washington in the US capital a day after the inauguration of new president Donald Trump. Despite the name, men are absolutely welcome to take part!

More than 1.36 million people are expected to march worldwide. After London, Brussels, and Paris, Copenhagen is expected to be the fourth largest march in Europe with well over a thousand participants.

Inspired to act
The event is being organised by six American women living in Denmark who have been inspired by different protests taking place in the US mainly due to the frustration and anger with the result of the November election.

“We want to shed light on the reality of how xenophobic, misogynistic and racist rhetoric and actions destroy everyone’s sense of well-being and community,” their leader Rebecca Rutt told CPH POST.

“We expect to form a community of activists to fight racism and the rise of right-wing populism,” added Elizabeth Williams-Oerberg.

“The march will give women a platform to tell their government and the world that we demand equal rights,” contended Karen Covington.

Diverse list of speakers
Both at the US Embassy before the march and at Christiansborg, those gathered can listen to a diverse mix of speakers, including activists, politicians and representatives of organisations working with gender and equality issues.

Among the speakers outside the US Embassy are: Laura Lochman, the deputy US ambassador; David Miller from Democrats Abroad; and Angolan queer activist Ayun.

Among the 13 speakers at Christiansborg are: Julia Suarez Krabbe, an associate professor at Roskilde University working in the area of racism, human rights and education; Nazila Kivi, the editor of Friktion who also writes for Politiken; Katrine Blom, the chair of Everyday Sexism Project Danmark; and Bwalya Sørensen from Black Lives Matter DK.

内容からして、トランプを強く意識したものと思われます。　一国のリーダーにふさわしくない発言が続くトランプです。　今日の日本国内報道によると、今回の新政権のメンバーは、過去の何れよりも ”知能指数が高い” と自ら発言したそうですが、こんな言葉を発すること自体が、意図的だろうがそうでなかろうが、稚拙さを露呈したものに見えてしまいます。

これによって、ＵＳ自身も苦悩することになろうかと思いますが、世界の各国も振り回されることになると思うと、ますます頭が痛くなります・・・。

ドイツ発： 中国からの貨物列車がロンドンに到着

２０１７年１月１９日（Thu.） Hard Brexit、交渉が上手とされているＵＫの May 首相発言、これを受けてスコットランドでは独立を問う国民投票を再び行う可能性が示唆されています。　また、物議を醸しているトランプの大統領就任式は金曜日に迫っています。　何か不穏な雲行きを感じます。　それにしても、大統領とか首相とかに権限が集中し過ぎているのではないかと感じてしまいます。　民主的な議会中心の政治の仕組みであって欲しいと願うばかりです。

First 'Silk Road' freight train arrives in UK from China
最初の ”シルクロード” 貨物列車が中国からイギリスに到着

The first freight train from China to Britain has arrived in London, completing a 12,000-kilometer journey. The service is part of a push by China to revive the Silk Road trading routes to western Europe.

The yellow and red locomotive logo was showered with white confetti as it rolled into the Barking terminal in east London on Wednesday.

The train began its intercontinental journey in the eastern Chinese city of Yiwu on January 1. It then passed through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France before entering Britain through the English Channel.

The train, which bears a Deutsche Bahn logo, was transporting dozens of containers filled with clothing and other retail goods. It covered 12,000 kilometers (7,456 miles) on the 18-day trip.

The initiative is part of China's efforts to strengthen trade links throughout Asia, Russia and Europe along a modern day Silk Road.

The state-run China Railway Corporation already has freight services to other European destinations, such as Madrid and Hamburg. London is the 15th city to be linked to the new network, which is being billed as faster than shipping and cheaper than air transport.

こうした列車によるルートが出来上がっているのですね、知りませんでした。　各国間の調整もかなり要したものだったのではないでしょうか。　こうした協力体制や友好関係は大切にしたいものです。

一方、現代にも、いささか首を傾げたくなる国家リーダーが幾人もいると思いますが、古（いにしえ）より、通商を通して物流のみならず、文化的な交流も深められてきたのではないでしょうか。　但し、例えば、そこに１国の我儘な振る舞いがあると衝突の種にもなってきたことでしょう。　現代にあっては、そうしたケースには、国際機関などで ”大人の調整” を期待したいものです。　決して武力や国力などを背景にした圧力、はたまた声の大きいヤツのバカな発言などで無理強いしてはならないと思います・・・。　（歴史に学ぶことを知らないヤツが多過ぎる・・・。　ワイツゼッカーの言葉を理解できないのでしょうかね）

それにしても、大統領や首相などの判断に委ね過ぎの部分が多いように感じます。　まともな人物ならば良いのでしょうが・・・。

アイルランド： 妊娠中の飲酒にご注意！

２０１７年１月１７日（Tue.） ここしばらくは寒い状況が続きそうです。　たまにはアルコールも欲しくなるかも知れませんが、妊娠中は避けたほうが良さそうです。　アイルランドからの情報です。　（　ニュースソース：　The Journal.ie　１月１７日発　）

Ireland has the worst rates in the world for drinking during pregnancy
妊娠中の飲酒に関して、アイルランドは世界で最も悪い比率になっています。

A new study analysed the rates of drinking during pregnancy by linking them with a condition caused by alcohol consumption.

A GLOBAL STUDY published recently suggests that over 60% of Irish births show evidence of alcohol consumption during pregnancy.
GLOBAL STUDY によると、アイルランド人の出産の６０％以上に妊娠期間中の飲酒の兆候があるとしています。



This study by The Lancet places Ireland first in the top five countries in the world who drink during pregnancy, along with Russia (37%), the United Kingdom (41%), Denmark (46%), and Belarus (47%) – all European countries.

（抜粋）これによると、上位５カ国のトップにアイルランドが位置しています。　ロシアは３７％、ＵＫは４１％、デンマークは４６％、ベラルーシは４７％で、全てがＥＵの国です。

The study was conducted by linking rates of drinking during pregnancy to rates of foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) which is directly caused by alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

Researchers analysed over 3,500 cases of Irish maternal records between 1990-2011 and counted rates of FAS per population.

FAS is caused when alcohol blocks oxygen and nutrients from travelling through the placenta to the baby. Altered facial features is another sign of FAS, and occurs when the mother takes alcohol between months 6-9 of the pregnancy, which is when facial features form.

It’s not known how much alcohol you can consume before FAS begins; so complete abstinence of alcohol during pregnancy is advised.

Foetal alcohol syndrome
Children with FAS have problems with their neurological development, and abnormal growth, which may include learning disabilities, poor academic achievement, poor organisation, lack of inhibition, difficulty writing or drawing, or balance problems.

An estimated 119,000 children are born with FAS worldwide, according to this same study, but not every woman who drinks while pregnant will have a child with FAS.

“We estimated that one in 67 mothers who drink during pregnancy will deliver a child with FAS,” says lead author Dr Svetlana Popova.

This was a conservative estimate, according to the researchers, as it doesn’t include other types of conditions caused by alcohol during pregnancy.

The lowest levels of FAS were in Middle Eastern regions, where alcohol consumption is illegal or prohibited by religious beliefs.

妊娠期間中の飲酒はやめた方がいいようです。　日本でも、こうした情報は若い女性、または、妊娠の可能性のある方に伝わっているのでしょうか。　タバコもそうでしょうが、こうした可能性のある方は、摂取するものに十分注意が必要ですね。　また、周囲の男性や、経験者としての親の立場からも伝えるべきことの一つと言うことでしょう。

ストレス解消が飲酒の目的であっては”つまらない”と思いますが、ストレスが鬱積する社会であるのかも知れません、現代は・・・。　それにしても、妊娠期間中の飲酒は避けましょうね。

Today is apparently the most depressing day of the year.
今日は、明らかに一年で最も憂鬱な日です。

Blue Monday was initiated as a publicity campaign by travel agents Sky Travel to sell last-minute holidays in 2005.

It reportedly discovered a "perfect storm" of factors which make the third Monday in January so depressing.

Gloomy weather, debt from over-indulgence at Christmas, broken new year's resolutions and a return to the daily grind at work are all factors that reportedly conspire to make today more of a slog than the other 364 days of the year.

Psychotherapist Tony Moore of Relationships Ireland said January can be a turbulent month for many people faced with mounting debt from Christmas, not to mention fears over Brexit and the inauguration of Donald Trump as American president on Friday.

"From the third week in January to the third week in February we are busy," he said of the counselling service.

"There are a lot of things converging in January to make you want to hide under the covers," he said.

But having an optimistic attitude can help if people see it as a month to start over rather than viewing it as a long replay of a bad or boring year, he said.

Shay Dalton, managing director of Lincoln Recruitment Specialists, said January is the time of year that many lawyers, accountants and other professionals start thinking about switching jobs or careers.

While he doesn't get a flurry of calls from people who have quit their jobs out of frustration on Blue Monday, "January is a time of reflection", he told the Irish Independent.

And it's not just because it's the start of a new year.

Other issues, like people not getting the Christmas bonus they expected or frustration with the upcoming year's budget, for example, could be a trigger, he said.

January is also a month with high levels of divorce and separation rates.

ドイツ： storm Egon hit Germany

２０１７年１月１５日（Sun.） 日本の各地でも雪に襲われているようですが、ドイツでも先週末には Egon に見舞われました。　一部の写真のみを転載します。　（　ニュースソース：　THE LOCAL de　１月１３日発　）

ところで、ＵＳの新大統領就任が近づいていますが、これまでの発言や報道を見る限りは、大統領の資質は”ない”と言うことではないでしょうか。　まるで、時代が逆行しているかのようです。

こうなってしまっている原因は一つではないと思いますが、格差社会の増長や報道のミスリード（？）、ＳＮＳの悪い面での影響等々・・・。　それにしても、私たち一人一人の判断力が大切なのでしょう、きっと。
