「只今津波が襲来しています。高台に避難してください！」
「海岸付近には絶対に近づかないでください！」

異常な潮の引き方です、逃げてください… 」
南三陸町に巨大津波が襲いかかってくる最中、自らの命を張って町民を救い、そして消えていった女性がいた。
彼女の声は、ニュースで何度も流れた。切羽詰まった声であった。
南三陸町機管理課職員遠藤未希さん（25歳）。
彼女は、３月１１日、午後２時４６分から約３０分間、防災対策庁舎２階にある放送室から津波の来襲と高台への避難をひたすら呼び掛け続けた。
海岸にいた両親にもその声は届いた。最後の方は声が震えていたという。
3階建ての防災対策庁舎は津波にのまれ、庁舎に残った職員約30人のうち、助かったのは10人。
その後、行方不明になっていた未希さん、そのご本人と思われるご遺体が、４月２３日、志津川湾に浮かぶ荒島の北東約７００メートルの地点で見つかった。
母、美恵子さんは３月下旬、遠藤さんが水中で亡くなっている夢を見たそうだ。
「未希が『早く捜してほしい』と、助けを求めていると思った」と。
まだ、青春真只中の未希さん、あなたのマイクの声でたくさんの人々の命が救われたのだ。
今回の地震でお亡くなりになられた皆様のご冥福を改めてお祈りいたします。

It’s a broadcast call of urging the citizens repeatedly to hurry and escape.
Miki Endo was a 25 year-old public worker who worked in the Crisis Management Dept. of the city of Minami Sanriku, one of the worst-hit cities in the Miyagi prefecture - of its 17,000 inhabitants, 10,000 perished and only 7,000 or so survived the tsunami.
Many of those 7,000 that survived escaped death because of Miki Endo’s broadcast.
When the quake and tsunami hit, she remained at her post on the 2nd floor of the building and used the community broadcast system to urge residents to quickly move to higher ground. She continued broadcasting these announcements.
But Endo herself was never heard from again after the office was engulfed by tsunami. Family and relatives had been searching for her ever since.
On April 23, Miki Endo's body was recovered 700m off the cost of Minami Sanriku.
Endo should be remembered as a true hero of the highest order, and remembered forever with grateful reverence.
