Police converged on Düsseldorf's main railway station after an attacker with an ax injured seven people. Authorities believe the 36-year-old suspect they detained acted alone.

Police in Düsseldorf have arrested a man who allegedly went on a rampage with an ax at the city's main station on Thursday night that left at least seven people injured.

The suspect jumped from a bridge in an attempt to escape police. He was brought to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.

Düsseldorf police later identified the suspect as a 36-year-old man "from the former Yugoslavia" who lives in the nearby city of Wuppertal. Investigators said they believe the man likely acted alone "based on the current state of investigations."

"The suspect seems to have psychological problems," they said in a statement.

Federal police spokesman for the regional state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Rainer Kerstiens, told Deutsche Welle that the incident had likely been an "amok"-attack, a term which loosely translates to someone "running amok" and is used in German to refer to a violent rampage.

The suspect reportedly first attacked several people on a local train, then continued his rampage on several platforms and in the main hall of the main station.

According to the Düsseldorf police, there were at least seven victims - three persons suffered severe injuries, while four sustained minor injuries.

Dpa quoted witnesses as saying that injured people were stretchered out of the station. Others were treated in emergency service vehicles.

Authorities were alerted to the attack shortly before 9 p.m. local time (2000 GMT), prompting a large-scale response. The station was evacuated and sealed off during the manhunt for the attacker. It remained closed for several hours. All trains running through the station were cancelled or rerouted. A helicopter circled over a building in the center of Düsseldorf, the regional capital of NRW.

DW reporter Mark Hallam said via Twitter that many people remained near the station on Thursday night, "hoping to get home later."

At 12.45 a.m. local time, the train station was reopened with exception of sites where people had been attacked. Düsseldorf police announced on Twitter that the "main station has been largely reopened."

第二次世界大戦の爆弾（注：　不発弾）が発見されたデュッセルドルフで、多くの人々が避難しています。

Construction workers often unearth unexploded bombs in Germany and authorities are forced to act quickly. In 2014 a worker died after an excavator struck a bomb and triggered a massive explosion.
ドイツでは、建設作業員が不発弾を掘り起こしてしまうことはしばしばあることで、当局は迅速な行動が求められます。　２０１４年には、不発弾を掘削してしまったため、大規模な爆発を起こしてしまい作業者１名が死亡しました。



The discovery of a five-ton WWII bomb in a district of Düsseldorf forced about 8,000 people to evacuate on Thursday.

Authorities shut down a major motorway and warned air traffic from Düsseldorf airport could be affected as well as railway lines.

Construction workers discovered the British bomb late Wednesday in Düsseldorf-Rath. City administrators set up a one kilometer (0.62 mile) safety cordon around the bomb.

The city of Düsseldorf posted updates to residents on Twitter and warned residents "there is no guarantee that the bomb will not explode in the process (of defusal)."

Those evacuated included a hotel with 250 guests.

The cordon caused major traffic delays in the city.

世界大戦の残処理は今も続いているということです。　日本においても時々、類似の不発弾処理があることはご承知の通りです。

思い起こすこととして、２０１３年にドイツ北西部を旅行した時、ケルンやミュンスターなどでは、連合軍の爆撃によって多くの建物は破壊され、その残骸なども利用しながら復活・再建したとの記事も目にしたものです。

平和の有り難さや大切さを歴史から学びたいし、学ぶべきでしょう。　しかしながら、歴史に学ぼうとしない愚かな人々が少なくないようですね。　しかも、そうした人々が為政者の中に居ることは大問題です。　為政者足る資格はありません。

アイルランド： 飲み過ぎへの意識変化？

２０１７年３月８日（Wed.） 昨日から真冬に戻ったような寒さで雪が舞ったりしています、愛知県のことですが。　さて、国会でのやりとりを見たりすると、実に不誠実な答弁・強弁としか見えないことが多いのです。　国民に対して疑惑を誠実に説明しようとするのであれば、党派を超えて解明すべきでしょう。　なのに、問題はなかったとか、記録は残っていないとか、民間人の参考人招致はよほどの理由がない限りは呼ぶべきでない・・・とか。　そのよほどの理由（疑惑）があるから解明すべきだと良識ある人々は発言しているのです。　それに誠実に応えないのは、疑惑に組する一派に属していて、真実が暴露されると困る・・・からではありませんか。　その言動が証明してしまっているのです。　全体として、疑惑だらけの事案ですね、森友問題は。

A Behaviour and Attitudes survey on behalf of industry-funded group Drinkaware has revealed the attitudes Irish people have towards drinking.

The research shows a gap between people’s intentions to drink less and their actions. While some people revealed their wish to drink less often, others feel their drinking habits don’t have any negative effects and revealed they do not take binge or excessive drinking seriously.

1,000 Irish adults aged 18 and over were interviewed as part of the research, which revealed attitudes towards excessive drinking and risky behaviour around alcohol.

It showed:
　73% say drinking to excess is just a part of Irish culture
　46% believe drinking to excess is ‘no big deal’
　27% believe drink driving is ‘less of an issue’ in recent years (contrary to RSA and An Garda Síochána research highlighting alcohol as a factor in 38% of collisions)

Dr Liam Twomey, Chief Medical Officer of Drinkaware said:

“While this report shows that many people understand the impacts of alcohol and their health, it does highlight worrying behaviours and attitudes among many people around excessive drinking.

“As a GP, I regularly see people in my surgery who recognise the health implications of alcohol in theory, but find it very hard to put that understanding into practice. I often see this disconnect between what people intend to do and want to do, and what they end up doing on a night out.”

City of lights: La La Land is up for 14 Oscar nominations

The score for the movie, composed by Justin Hurwitz, has received critical acclaim, particularly for the film’s show-stopping songs City of Star’ and Audition (The Fools Who Dream).

The tour announcement comes after La La Land picked up six awards at the 2017 Oscars and including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Song and Best Original Score.

There has even been rumours that the musical is being made into a stage show to run Broadway and London's West End.

Tickets for the La La Land tour in the Bord Gais go on sale Friday, March 10 from Ticketmaster.

昨年（２０１６年）のリオにて活躍した選手の一人ですね。　このメインのパレードの中心的人物 （ Grand Marshal ） になりますので ”大役” とも言えるのでしょう。　良い意味でアイリッシュの活躍に貢献して行くことを望みたいと思います。

ところで、世間（日本国内）を騒がしている森友学園問題を見ていると、幼稚園児に思想教育したり、しかも、その内容がファシスト、ファシズム、全体主義、一党独裁、権威主義、盲目的服従等々・・・これらに洗脳するかのような内容にも見え、時代錯誤的な思想を有した教育など、”教育”とは言えないものでしょう。　本事案に連座する人々は、こうした古い・悪しき社会制度・風潮への復活を目指していると理解できるのではないでしょうか。

極右的・独裁的な勢力が世界の各地で話題になっていますが、日本国内においてもそのような動きがあると言うことでしょう。　安倍政治の目的は独裁体制でしょう。　それはファシズムであり、民主主義を真っ向から否定しているもので、決して許されるものではありません。

安倍政治はいらない！　そして、安倍を支持しているヤカラが一番悪いと断じます。　（そもそも、こんなことを語るブログではないのですが・・・）
