Commuters have been warned to expect some dangerous driving conditions this morning as temperatures nationwide dropped to below freezing overnight.
昨晩からの氷点下の気温で道路は危険な状態に、通勤者に注意が呼びかけられています。

It may be late March but winter is not over yet.

Met Eireann have issued a snow-ice warning for the country and the warning is valid from 8pm last night to midday today.

According to the national forecaster, showers of snow are expected this morning.

While accumulations of snow of up to 3cm are possible on a local level, it is likely to gather mainly on hills and mountains in the West.

Met Eireann forecaster Jean Byrne told RTE Radio One's Morning Ireland that it is set to be very cold over the next few days.

ところで、アイルランドでも昨日の幸福度ランキングが報道されています、アイルランドは１５位だったと。　結構、この評価データは各国がそれぞれ取り上げているようです。　日本は５１位だったせいか、あまり目にしていませんが気のせいでしょうか・・・。

｢隠蔽体質｣ も気になることの一つですね。

ドイツ発： The world's happiest country in 2017

Norway has claimed the top spot as the happiest country on Earth, unseating Scandinavian neighbor Denmark, the World Happiness Report found. The report also noted that Germans are happier but Americans are feeling blue.

A strong sense of community sets Nordic countries apart from the rest

A new report released Monday has given Norwegians something to celebrate - if they weren't smiling already. The Scandinavian country vaulted three spots to claim the title of world's happiest country according to the latest world Happiness Report released on Monday.

Norway ousted Denmark, which landed in this year's second spot, followed by Iceland and Switzerland.

The top four countries scored high on factors that the report says are key to happiness including: "caring, freedom, generosity, honesty, health, income and good governance," the report said.

"What works in the Nordic countries is a sense of community and understanding of the common good," Meik Wiking, chief executive officer of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen told the Associated Press. Wiking was not part of Monday's global scientific study.

The report's lead author, John Helliwell, noted that they found it takes more than money to make people feel happy.

"It's the human things that matter. If the riches make it harder to have frequent and trustworthy relationship between people, is it worth it?" said Helliwell, who is also an economist at the University of British Columbia in Canada.

"The material can stand in the way of the human."

Red, white and feeling blue
Germany stayed in the same spot as last year - coming in 16th on the list under Ireland but above Belgium.

The latest report shows, however, that people in Germany are steadily rating themselves as happier compared to previous years.

The United States, on the other hand, was 14th on the list ranking, falling down one spot from last year. The report also found that America's happiness score dropped 5 percent over the past decade as people are rating themselves as well happy.

Nicaragua and Latvia's happiness scores increased the most.

The report, which was released to coincide with World Happiness Day, ranks 155 countries. The list has been used by the United Nations since 2012 when Bhutan secured support for a proposal to recognize happiness as a guiding principle for public policies.

ところで、Ｇ２０がハンブルグで開催され、安倍総理のスピーチに ｢一部の人々に富が集まるようなことはやってはならない・・・｣ と言う言葉があったようですが、言ってることと自らやっていることは真逆のように感じてしまって失笑してしまいました。　以前からそうですが、根っからの虚言癖があるのではないでしょうか。　

だから、日本国民の幸福感という感触も薄れているのでは？・・・。　格差は是正されるべきでしょう。　ジニ係数はどうなっているのでしょうか。

一方、ＵＳ国民も最近はストレスが高まっている人々が少なくないのではないでしょう。　如何に為政者の責任が重いかを感じますし、その為政者を選んだのは国民であることも忘れてはならないのでしょうね。

少なくとも、好き勝手やりたい放題の為政者とはサヨナラしたいものです。

アイルランド： 恒例の St Patrick's Day ですが・・・

２０１７年３月１８日（Sat.） 昨日の１７日は、毎年恒例になっている St Patrick's Day です。　アイルランドでは盛大にパレードなどが繰り広げられたようですが、数日前の　Rescue 116 のヘリ墜落事故もあって、それを追悼・連帯意思表示のパレードもあったと報じています。　（　ニュースソース：　Independent.IE　３月１８日発　）

お祭りのこの日、多くの人が各地のストリートに繰り出しています。

Saint Patrick's Day revellers marched in dry, overcast conditions as an estimated two million people took to the streets of Irish cities, towns and villages to honour the national saint.

Once again, Kerry got the party going with two parades staged before most people in the country had even gotten out of bed to put on their celebratory shamrock.

The first was staged at Ballydavid where the parade took place at 12.01am. It mirrored dozens of parades around Ireland where special tributes were paid to the Irish Coast Guard and the four-strong crew of the downed Rescue 116 helicopter.

Many marchers wore black arm-bands to show their solidarity with the friends and family of Rescue 116 crew.

The second parade was in Dingle, where the Dingle Pipe and Drum Band marched down the main street at the unholy hour of 5.45am.

Thankfully, it was a more sedate celebration across the rest of Munster.

More than 40,000 people thronged Cork streets for a combined parade and St Patrick's Day festival.

The parade grand marshal was celebrity TV chef Rachel Allen and she helped cook up a party mood.

The Cork festival put particular emphasis on food stalls and Cork's culinary traditions.

Cork also paid tribute to one of its most successful exports - in this case a person rather than a famous food dish like spiced beef or black pudding.

US motor industry giant Henry Ford was the scion of a west Cork migrant and, to mark the centenary of his opening a major car plant at Marina off Cork harbour, there was a special tribute by a fleet of vintage Ford cars.

Across Cork county, more than two dozen parades were staged - the largest in Mallow, Fermoy, Kinsale, Bandon, Clonakilty, Macroom, Youghal, Midleton, Blarney and Skibbereen.

It might seem like a sweet idea to touch heads with your bestie to capture that perfect selfie, but according to researchers, it’s also a great way to spread lice.
親友と自己撮りするのは良いことだけど、調査によると、シラミの拡散につながっているのです。

According to Professor Hermann Feldmeier from Charite hospital’s Institute for Microbiology and Hygiene, children between the ages of eight and 11, as well as teenage girls, are increasingly getting head lice.

And the reason for this has to do with a certain social media craze.

“Girls like to put their heads together when they take selfies,” Feldmeier told health magazine Apotheken Umschau in its latest edition.

Lice almost always take the opportunity to jump onto the next head when there is direct hair contact. So worrying about transferring lice in other ways is generally being overly cautious.

“A transfer through textiles and other objects is theoretically possible, but this practically plays no role," he said.

Studies have found that the headwear and bed sheets of affected children had no lice. This is because if they leave the person’s head, they’ll have no source of nutrition.

“Already after four hours without blood, lice are so parched that they cannot suck any more,” Feldmeier explained.

Therefore parents often unnecessarily do too much to disinfect sheets and clothing after their children have had lice.

話題がシラミなので、気持ちの良い話題とは言えませんが、スマホなどで自己撮りする仲良し同士としては注意を要することかも知れません。　この話題はドイツ・ベルリン発になっていますが、日本でもシラミは未だに身近に存在しているのでしょうか・・・。
　
また、selfie は私の電子辞書には載っていませんでした。ネットで調べると ”自己撮り” でした、なるほどネ。　さらに bestie は親友。

いずれにしても、このようなポーズをとる人たちは気をつけた方がいいのでしょう。

Record numbers of visitors are preparing to jet into Ireland as the world goes green for St. Patrick's Day.

Bookings for Aer Lingus flights from North America are up one third on March 17 compared to the same day last year, according to the airline.

“Celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Ireland, particularly Dublin, is on the bucket list for many people all over the globe," said Declan Kearney, its Director of Communications.

Cities such as Boston and New York are driving the numbers, he added, but there has been a significant increase from others like Orlando and Chicago.


Dublin Airport itself is set to welcome over 376,000 passengers over the festive period - including English rugby fans for the final clash of the Six Nations.

15 flights have also been added for the thousands of punters travelling to and from the Cheltenham Festival.

March 17 is traditionally seen as the start of the Irish tourism season, with Tourism Ireland gearing up for its eighth annual 'Global Greening' campaign.

One World Trade Center in New York, City Hall in London and Plaça de Catalunya in Barcelona are among more than 240 global landmarks set to go green this year - in a campaign worth an estimated €10 million to Ireland in publicity terms.

Both Dublin and Cork airports are participating in the global greening, with plans to shine green lights on terminal buildings throughout March 17.

30,000 passengers will pass through Cork between Thursday and Sunday.

"Given St. Patrick's Day is falling on a Friday this year, we are expecting it to be a particularly busy time," said Kevin Cullinane, the airport's Head of Communications. "Visitors from all over the globe will be looking to take part in the festivities and celebrations."

2016 was Ireland's busiest ever year for tourism, with some 10.5 million overseas visitors spending around €5.4 billion on the island.

Numbers are expected to rise modestly this year, though Brexit, Ireland's competitiveness and a shortage of hotel rooms in Dublin pose challenges.

Almost 62pc of holidaymakers say they would strongly recommend an Irish trip, according to Fáilte Ireland's latest visitor attitudes survey, though the number of British finding 'good' or 'very good' value for money has dipped from 67pc to 51pc year on year.

Three out of five visitors would 'definitely' return, according to the research.

St Patrick’s Day に突入の感ですが、他のサイト情報によると天気は雨と風、気温も１１～１３℃でやや寒い予報となっています。　さらに、この期間中、未成年の飲酒が多発するようで、アルコール販売を制限したり、警察が監視を強化するとの報道も出ています。
