The New Christy Minstrels

The Brothers Fourが結成、５０年以上と言っていましたが、The New Christy Minstrelsも５０年以上になります。Randy Sparks（ﾗﾝﾃﾞｨ･ｽﾊﾟｰｸｽ） が１９６１年に結成現在も活動中です。
1968年に来日し、見に行きました。確か、ｺﾝｻｰﾄは名古屋の愛知県文化講堂であったと思います。非常にShow　Upされ迫力のあるｽﾃｰｼﾞでした。曲目は“Cotton Fields”、“This Land Is Your Land”、“Green, Green”、“Chim Chim Cheree”” Today”、”Shenandoh”、“Drinkin' Gourd” 等でした。
記憶に残った曲は“Drinkin' Gourd”と”Today”でした特に”Today”は このｸﾞﾙｰﾌﾟのﾘｰﾀﾞｰであるRandy Sparks 作詞作曲、２番、３番と半音づつ転調され混声のｺｰﾗｽが幻想的でした。
この曲をJohn Denver（ｼﾞｮﾝ・ﾃﾞﾝﾊﾞｰ）が歌っているんですね。どうしてかなと思いﾈｯﾄでいろいろ調べてみました。
John Denverは前に Randy Sparksの経営するｸﾗﾌﾞで歌っていたことあり、Randy SparksはJohnの声が凄く気に入りﾃﾞﾓ録音をしｷｬﾋﾟﾀﾙ・ﾚｺｰﾄﾞに売り込んだり 面倒を見たようです。また、長かった本名Henry John Deutschendorfと言う名をJohn Denverに改名させました。そのころ” Today”のｱﾙﾊﾞﾑが販売されてたのです。
その後、Chad Mitchell Trioのｵｰﾃﾞｨｼｮﾝに合格し１９６５年ﾃﾞﾋﾞｭｰしました。そしてBrothers FourはJohn DenverをChad Mitchell Trioに加入させるため音楽　　ﾌﾟﾛﾃﾞｭｰｻｰのﾐﾙﾄ・ｵｸﾝに合わせたそうです。それぞれつながりが有るものですね。
なお、今のThe New Christy MinstrelsのメンバーにはJohn DenverがおじさんにあたるDave Deutschendorfさんが参加しています。
