この動画は2009年4月に米国のBeacon高校で開催された”The Clearwater Spring Splash Concert”の模様です。Pete Seegerが亡くなって3年目を迎えますが彼は晩年､Sing Alongの曲として､ 必ずSomeWhere Over The Rainbow を歌っていました。この曲は1939年に公開されたﾌｧﾝﾀｼﾞｰ･ﾐｭｰｼﾞｶﾙ映画､"The Wizard of Oz”(ｵｽﾞの魔法使）の主題歌です。原作はﾗｲﾏﾝ･ﾌﾗﾝｸ･ﾎﾞｰﾑが1900年に発表した児童文学小説『オズの魔法使』でJudy Garland（ｼﾞｭﾃﾞｨ･ｶﾞｰﾗﾝﾄﾞ）が主役のﾄﾞﾛｼｰ役を演じました。

Puff, the Magic Dragonの歌詞は1959年､Lenny Lipton (ﾚﾆｰ･ﾘﾌﾟﾄﾝ) が19歳の時､Ogden Nash(ｵｸﾞﾃﾞﾝ･ﾅｯｼｭ) が1936年に絵本向けに書いた詩 "Custard the Dragon" の一節に影響され､作られました。学友のPeter Yarrowピが歌詞を加えて作曲し､1961年からPeter,Paul and Maryの曲として演奏されるようになりました。1963年ﾘﾘｰｽのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ"Moving"に収録され､その後､ｼﾝｸﾞﾙ･ｶｯﾄされ､大ﾋｯﾄしました。そして､Billboard Hot 100の第2位､Easy Listening部門 第1位を記録しました。1978年､この曲を題材にした短編ｱﾆﾒ"Puff the Magic Dragon"がTV放映されました。Puffの名の由来はﾄﾞﾗｺﾞﾝの不思議な鳴き声から来ているそうです。

曲はｽｺｯﾄﾗﾝﾄﾞ民謡の酔っ払いの歌､いわゆる､ﾄﾞﾘﾝｷﾝｷﾞ･ｿﾝｸﾞです。このｳｲｽｷｰはもちろん､ｽｺｯﾁ･ｳｲｽｷｰ（英語で Scotch whisky）､英国ｽｺｯﾄﾗﾝﾄﾞで製造されるものです。また､歌詞の中のCalton（ｹﾞｰﾙ語Challtainn、ｽｺｯﾄﾗﾝﾄ人Caltoun）は､ｽｺｯﾄﾗﾝﾄの最大都市であるGlasgow(ｸﾞﾗｽｺﾞｰ)市の地区名です。産業革命後､Glasgowでは綿工業を中心とした産業が盛んになりました。

The Dubliners（ﾀﾞﾌﾞﾘﾝｽﾞ/訳;ﾀﾞﾌﾞﾘﾝ市民）は､1962年にｱｲﾙﾗﾝﾄﾞの首都Dublin（ﾀﾞﾌﾞﾘﾝ）で設立された民族音楽ﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞでした。また､‎The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem（ｸﾗﾝｼｰ ･ﾌﾞﾗｻﾞｰｽﾞ& ﾄﾐｰ ﾒｲｹﾑ）は1960年代､米国のﾌｫｰｸｿﾝｸﾞ･ﾘﾊﾞｲﾊﾞﾙの中で最も影響力のるｱｲﾙﾗﾝﾄﾞ民族音楽ｸﾞﾙｰﾌﾟです。なお､1996年に結成されたGaelic Storm（ｹﾞｰﾙ ｽﾄｰﾑ/訳:ｹﾞｰﾙ人の嵐）はｹﾙﾄﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞと言われ､ｹﾞﾙﾄ音楽を演奏するﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞです。ｹﾞﾙﾄ音楽は西ﾖｰﾛｯﾊﾟのｹﾙﾄ人達の民族音楽から発展し､継承されていった幅広い､音楽のｼﾞｬﾝﾙです。彼らは伝統的なｱｲﾙﾗﾝﾄﾞ､ｽｺｯﾄﾗﾝﾄﾞの音楽からｹﾙﾄﾛｯｸのｼﾞｬﾝﾙを確立しました。The Brothers Four ‎
