「The Battle Hymn of the Republic（ﾘﾊﾟﾌﾞﾘｯｸ讃歌）」は、米国の民謡・愛国歌・賛歌であり、南北戦争での北軍の行軍曲です。元々のﾒﾛﾃﾞｨはWilliam Steffe（ｳｨﾘｱﾑ･ｽﾃｯﾌ）によって1856年に作曲された賛美歌「Say, brothers, will you meet us（やあ、兄弟達よ、我らに会わないか）」です。この曲は南北戦争初期、新たな歌詞が付けられ、北軍の行進曲「John Brown's Body（ｼﾞｮﾝ･ﾌﾞﾗｳﾝの屍）」となりました。そして､1861年､女性の詩人､Julia Ward Howe（ｼﾞｭﾘｱ･ｳｫｰﾄﾞ･ﾊｳ）によって詩がつけられ「The Battle Hymn of the Republic」として発表され､1906年､Frank C. Stanley（ﾌﾗﾝｸ･Ｃ･ｽﾀﾝﾚｰ）はｼﾝｸﾞﾙをﾘﾘｰｽ広く知られるようになりました。なお､直訳すると「共和国の戦闘讃歌」となります。

そして､1959年､Pete Seegerはｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”American Favorite Ballads, Vol. 3”､は‎1960年､Mitch Miller And The Gangはｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Memories Sing Along With Mitch”､‎1963年､Joan Baezはｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”In Concert Part 2”､Odettaは‎ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ　”Odetta”､1990年､Bob Hortonは”Homespun Songs Of Faith Vol.2”､1991年､Whitney Houston（ﾎｲｯﾄﾆｰ･ﾋｭｰｽﾄﾝ）は‎ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ” Live In Concert: Welcome Home Heroes With... ”に曲を収録しました。
