Description: With the media images of celebrities such as Angelina Jorie and Madonna, transracial and transnational adoption has gained much social attention. Many children - Korean, Chinese, Southeast Asian, Latin American, etc.. and more recently, Iraqi children, have been adopted to and are still in "high demand" in the U.S. Emi Koyama, a multi-issue social justice worker, will discuss the pitfalls,history, and problems of transracial and international adoptions. This discussion cannot be separated from the actuality of economic disparity, as well as from the history of U.S. militarism and colonialism, including the Cold War, post-9-11 US politics, and the "war on terror."
