Date/Time: TODAY, May 17 4:45pm
Location: Pick Lounge (Room 001)
Pick Hall, University of Chicago
5828 S. University Ave.
Description: In recent years Japanese textbooks have attracted attention overseas for their negligence or distortion of the imperialist and colonialist aspects of Japan's modern history. These issues, however, should be seen in relation to changes in education being affected by the state that fundamentally alter the vision of justice and democracy for Japan's schoolchildren and the Japanese people as a whole as put forth in the founding documents of postwar Japan.
Sponsors: Japan Committee of the Center for East Asian Studies, the Human Rights Program and the Center for International Studies
For more information about this and other related events in the Japan at Chicago Lecture Series: Celebrating Protest, please visit http://ceas.uchicago.edu/celebratingprotest
For persons needing assistance, please contact the Center for East Asian Studies at 773-702-2715 or japan@uchicago.edu in advance.
