【メルボルン（オーストラリア）浅妻博之】テニスの全豪オープン第９日は２６日、当地のメルボルン・パークで男子シングルス準々決勝が行われ、第７シードの錦織圭（日清食品）が、前回覇者で第１シードのノバク・ジョコビッチ（セルビア）に３－６、２－６、４－６でストレート負けし、全豪では初となる準決勝進出を逃した。全豪の日本男子では１９３２年の佐藤次郎以来、８４年ぶりのベスト４入りもならなかった。ジョコビッチは２８、２９日に行われる準決勝で、第６シードのトマーシュ・ベルディハ（チェコ）を７－６、６－２、６－４のストレートで降した第３シードのロジャー・フェデラー（スイス）と対戦する。

体を目いっぱい伸ばしたが届かなかった。鋭いバックハンドショットを決め、ストレート勝ちに力強くガッツポーズを繰り返すジョコビッチ。対照的に、錦織は硬い表情のまま伏し目がちにコートを後にした。相手の強さが別格とはいえ、持ち味を発揮できないままの錦織にはもどかしい試合となった。
