10月31日に英国グラスゴーでCOP26環境会議が開催される前に先立ち、世界の人々に現在の環境危機に対して警鐘を鳴らすためにアメリカ東部時間の10月30日午後1時から30分間教会等の鐘を鳴らそうという提案です。
日本との時差は現在13時間のためアメリカ東部との同時刻に行うとなると午前2時からとなってしまいますので、同時に鳴らすということにこだわらなくてもよいとのことです。

The COP 26 gathering in Glasgow will determine how serious our species is about addressing the climate emergency we now face.
Over the course of the past 25 meetings, which were filled with good intentions and lofty rhetoric, greenhouse gas emissions have soared, and we are moving perilously close to irreversible feedback loops as the planet heats up.
Some folks in the UK will be ringing church bells across their land on Oct 30th, right before the start of the meeting, to acknowledge the importance of COP 26 and to sound out a warning that we are facing an imminent catastrophe.
Historically, church bells rang out in England to warn the people of an oncoming fire or flood or a potential invasion by the Vikings. the Spanish Armada, Napoleon's Army, or the Nazis!
Such a dramatic warning emphasizes that immediate action must be taken!
What a good idea!
It can't hurt. It's cheap and easy to ring bells, blow a shofar, start a call to prayer, sing a song, or bang pots and pans.
If you can imagine those sounds ringing out across the UK, it's a very dramatic statement about the magnitude of this meeting of nations.
