アメリカの読書運動Big Read

アメリカ各地でBig Readという運動が行われています。

これは、2006年からThe National Endowment for Arts(芸術基金)の主導のもと始まったものです。

この運動は、2004年に出された「読書が危機状態に：アメリカ国内読書調査」(“Reading at Risk: A Survey of Literary Reading in America”)の報告に対処するためのものです。

この活動が始められて以来、アメリカ全土の様々な町で展開されているイベントです。

このプロジェクトは、町で1冊の課題図書を決め、市民にその本を読むように呼びかけ、その書についてのディスカッションや読書感想発表会や読書感想文コンクール等を開催したり、その書の著者や研究者の講演会を開いたり、その書に関する写真展や美術展を開いたり、映画化されている作品であるならば映画鑑賞会を開いたりなど、一冊の書籍を通じて様々な活動を行い、地域活性化と市民の読書を推進する活動です。
