The Danes seem to have become more environmentally-conscious this Christmas, according to the national rail operators, DSB.

DSB revealed that it has seen the most Christmas travellers this year in half a decade – and a 22 percent increase in ticket sales compared to last year.

“We see that it is particularly the young people who have returned to us and there are several reasons for that,” Tony Bispeskov, the head of information with DSB, told DR Nyheder.

“One is that we have expanded the Orange and Orange Fri tickets and we also experience that young people are increasingly calling for a more sustainable Christmas journey.”

Running smoothly
Despite the considerable passenger increase, DSB revealed that the year’s biggest travel day, December 23, was wrapped up without issue as trains departed on time.

There weren’t many problems on the roads either, according to the Danish road directorate, Vejdirektoratet.

However, December 26 is expected to be the big ‘travel back home’ day and there could be some traffic on the roads during the day.

話は変わりますが、日本のIR誘致に関する安倍政権の胡散臭さは究極のものですね。“経済を最優先”などと言う綺麗事の誤魔化し言葉よりも、“金儲け”に群がる悪の巣窟としか見えません。思えば、森友も加計も、原発マネーや関西電力の不祥事も、天下りの日本郵政関連の組織的不祥事も、桜を見る会の政治の私物化も、そして、今回のIR誘致に関する疑惑も・・・です。実に、私利私欲と金に汚い集団だとしか見えません。

これでは社会は良くなりません。正直者が馬鹿を見る・損をする・虐げられる世の中であってはなりません。日本は格差の広がったヒドイ国に成り下がっています。これで“先進国”？　（チャンチャラ可笑しい。）　善良なるマスコミは、オピニオンリーダーとしての役割を果たせ！　と言いたい。

BREAKING – Santy has been given permission to enter Irish airspace tonight



The Irish Air Corps has granted permission for a sleigh accompanied by nine reindeer to enter Irish skies.

Thankfully the IAA has granted permission to a very large man with a white beard, bright red suit and a low-flying sleigh with eight reindeer, being led by one with a big red nose, to enter Irish airspace tonight.

It’s understood that the IAA have warned that Santy’s secret service of elves will be passing over Ireland at 5:20pm to make one last check of the naughty or nice list.

Met Eireann has stated that Santa will need to wrap up warmly as it’ll be quite cold in some parts of Ireland.

Parents have been asked to show this good news to their little ones as Santy says they must be good little boys and girls today especially by going to bed early and making sure they’re fast asleep by the time he arrives to drop off their toys!

RTEが紹介しているサンタの現在位置情報は、初めて見ましたが面白いと感じました。　昨日、最初に見た時はオーストラリア上空で、そこから北上して硫黄島、東京沖、福島、仙台、青森、小樽、ここでUターンして、再び東京方面・横浜、静岡、愛知、大阪、再びUターンして富士山付近で再度Uターン、西へ進んで広島、長崎、沖縄へ。その後韓国方面に向かいました。

今朝、再び、同サイトを覗きました。UK上空に近づくタイミングで、ロンドン、ウェールズ地方、リバプール、スコットランド（グラスゴーやエジンバラ）、その後、北アイルランドのベルファスト、続いて、アイルランドのダブリン上空へ。ここで終わりかと思いましたが、その後、南下して行きました。

今しばらく、飛行を続けているのでしょう。終わるタイミングも見てみたい気がしますが・・・。

The shortest day of the year has come and gone, and Denmark is heading towards brighter times.

This year, the winter solstice fell early on Sunday morning, which means that from now on the days are getting longer and nights shorter.

The winter solstice falls when the Earth tilts the furthest away from the Sun on its axis. In the Northern Hemisphere this usually happens around December 21st-23rd every year.

Denmark’s dark winters aren’t as severe as in Scandinavian neighbours Sweden and Norway, which both experience polar nights – when the sun doesn't rise at all for several weeks.

The long hours of darkness can still be felt in Denmark, however.

For example, in northern city Aalborg the sun will set at 3:40pm on Monday December 23rd and rise at 8:38am on Christmas Eve. Six months ago on Midsummer's Eve, it rose at 4:25am and set at 10:19pm. These times will come again.

Although the winter solstice marks the start of the change towards longer days, it will take a while to feel any effect.

The dark feeling of the last couple of months is likely to be carried into this year’s Christmas weather in Denmark, meanwhile.

“It will be a grey Christmas this year overall,” meteorologist Bolette Brødsgaard of the Danish Meteorological Institute told Ritzau.

“Christmas Eve will have a cloudy theme, and unfortunately also some rain now and then, so remember your umbrella,” Brødsgaard added.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day in Denmark will be a little drier with some chance of sunshine, so Christmas walks could be a more pleasant affair on these days.

The rescue of a horse who had fallen into a 3m (10ft) pool of bog water in poor weather conditions has been hailed as a “Christmas miracle”.
The animal is said to be recovering after a “delicate” three-hour mission involving emergency services at an as yet unidentified bog in Co Longford on Friday night.
Gardaí and the fire services were helped by the Hungry Horse Outside equine rescue charity during the operation.
It is thought the animal had accidentally fallen into the pool of bog water.
The horse was successfully hoisted out after “some delicate work”, according to a post on official Garda social media.
It is said to be recovering at the Hungry Horse Outside centre in Newtownforbes.

In a post on its Facebook page, the charity described the rescue as “a Christmas miracle”.
“We are so happy this horse made it out alive. It wasn’t easy,” the post said.
“No words can express the compassion shown to this horse by Longford gardaí and Longford Fire Brigade who even after hours of trying to rescue it never once gave up on him and stayed with him until the very end.”
The post said everyone who attended the horse “played a vital part in its rescue, worked as a team and had any piece of the rescue team been missing we are afraid it would have been a much different story.”
The operation was carried out in “desperate weather conditions”, according to the charity, which could not be immediately contacted by telephone.
“Thank you everyone and we wish you a very happy and peaceful Christmas,” it said on the online post.
“We’ll bring you all a little update on him later today as he makes his recovery.”

Alexander Bridde’s grandchildren delight in crawling under their grandparents’ Christmas tree and climbing inside it.

When Christmas draws near, most of us like to decorate our home with a Christmas tree. But what do you do when you’re allergic to spruce? Alexander found an unusual solution for his wife Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir, who is indeed allergic to spruce. This holiday season, she has no need for her allergy medication.

Alexander, who runs the metal workshop Prófílstál, made a 180-cm (5 ft 11 in) tall Christmas tree of iron for her. He tells Morgunblaðið that she gladly accepted the tree. This will be the first time in 37 years that the family doesn’t buy a traditional Christmas tree.

Instead of being supported by a Christmas tree stand, this one suspends, fully decorated, from a hook in the ceiling. The couple’s son Guðni Bridde, who works as a blacksmith at his father’s shop, made a three-dimensional star for the top of the tree.

Alexander makes decorative pieces from iron, which he uses as Christmas gifts.

“I’m, of course, a blacksmith, and I make a large number of all sorts of items and gifts. You could say I’m creative in this area, and I have made hundreds of smaller trees with Christmas lights,” he states. Most of those were gifts for friends and relatives.

The new tree, though, is the largest he has made, being 180-cm tall, with the bottom ring measuring 90 cm in diameter. Making such a tree for the family has long been his dream, and he completed the job last Saturday. He was inspired by an article he read about German Christmas traditions in the Middle Ages, when Christmas trees used to be suspended from the ceiling. Having read it, he decided his tree would be installed that way.

The most exciting part for the grandchildren, Alexander adds, is being able to crawl under the tree and inside it.
